Petersham Nurseries Launches Garden Workshops

Prepare for some seriously sassy centrepieces.

Garden looking a little grim?

Petersham Nurseries’ horticulture workshops will have you green-fingered in no time.

This May, the new Petersham Nurseries in Covent Garden welcomes back its Urban School of Garden Inspiration, a series of interactive and demonstrative horticulture workshops, running between now and November this year.

Hosted by Petersham Nurseries’ Head of Horticulture, Amanda Brame, the animated workshops (£150 each) will be combine delivering knowledge and expertise with hands-on classes. Best of all? You’ll get to take your floral creations home with you at the end of each class.

The workshops kick off with an  immersive floral class on 30th May, where you’ll learn how to create wild arrangements of spring flowers and foliage – including blossoms, foxgloves, sweet peas and peonies. You’ll also learn how to condition garden flowers and branches for optimum vase life.

Their second instalment, Arranging with Edible Flowers, takes place on 12th June. Learn how to create an entirely edible arrangement using organically grown, seasonal flowers and plants, plus vegetables to make a striking, unique centrepiece. You’ll be learning about nasturtium, borage, garden roses, pea tendrils, herbs and lettuces. Use it as a decoration or use it as a garnish for your next dinner party.

Fast forward to 26th September and they’ll be hosting an Autumn Wreath Making class. With hedgerows full of bejewelled branches and gardens offering up the most perfect seed heads, hips and haws, it’s the perfect time of year to make a pretty autumnal wreath.

Their Last Floral Fling on 17th October will offer a masterclass in flower arranging and maintenance, working with rosehips, dahlias, crab apples and autumn leaves to create an autumnal bouquet to take home.

Finally, the last instalment will be a Terrarium Masterclass on 7th November.
