Brigid Kennedy
Brigid Kennedy suspected from a young age that she was meant to be a writer. One of her earliest pieces of jewelry (and a favorite to date) was a necklace adorned with a tiny notebook, inside of which she'd scribble observations, musings, and near-constant complaints about her siblings (other middle children will understand). Over time, however, her focus shifted from the written word to the visual arts — filmmaking, specifically. Daydreams of award speeches and red carpets fueled her creative spirit, which she followed all the way to Syracuse University's esteemed S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Her love of writing never disappeared, though; in between production classes and industry seminars, she worked as a copy editor and then video editor at The Daily Orange, SU's award-winning and top-ranked independent student newspaper.
After graduating in 2018, she landed a role at FilmNation Entertainment, a leading Hollywood sales agent, production company, and financier known for films like "Arrival," "Spencer," and 2024 Palme d'Or Winner "Anora." In her two years as a marketing and distribution coordinator, Brigid collaborated with esteemed auteur filmmakers like Pedro Almodóvar and Sean Baker and oversaw the theatrical release of more than 15 motion pictures, including the Oscar-winning film "Promising Young Woman."
After much deliberation and a brief pandemic-spurred career break, she started at TheWeek.com in May of 2021, where she put her college-era newspaper skills to the test. Over a nearly three-year stint, she reported on topics as lighthearted as the discontinuation of Choco Tacos to those as serious and complex as the U.S. economy and Russo-Ukrainian war; she conceptualized and authored a newsletter recapping the 2022 midterm elections for thousands of subscribers; she covered breaking news events like the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and the Uvalde shooting; and steadily climbed the ranks from staff writer to associate editor to story editor, eventually tasked with managing both incoming junior writers and senior writers with twice her experience.
In October of 2023, she moved on to the world of interiors, joining Livingetc as a style editor and the brand's first U.S. hire. It only made sense; as a lifelong magazine fan and devout consumer of online gift guides, the e-commerce-focused role seemed perfect for a news-trained reporter who also happens to love a good deal. In the months since, she has interviewed hundreds of designers and design experts, including heavyweights like Rachel Antonoff and Ghislaine Viñas, and put her investigative skills to the test while dissecting various big-ticket product purchases for Livingetc readers. She describes her personal design style as colorful and clean; she's not a maximalist, per se, but she wouldn't be caught dead in an all-beige living room.
In her free time, Brigid enjoys reading her latest book club pick (currently: "Hurricane Season" by Fernanda Melchor), going to the movies (popcorn is a must), and curating impossibly niche playlists on Spotify (every feeling needs a soundtrack). She recently relocated from Manhattan to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she's decorating and DIYing a new home downtown.
