Designers Say Teak Outdoor Sofas Are "Incredibly Gorgeous" — Here's Where to Buy the Best-Looking Ones This Year
Experts say teak outdoor sofas are more than worth it, but not all are created equal, so pay attention to the details to find the right one for your yard
Teak outdoor sofas cost a pretty penny. No matter how you flip it or spin it, teak is a high-quality wood with high-end prices to match. But are teak outdoor sofas worth the investment? Short answer: yes.
Renowned as some of the best looking outdoor furniture for the cost, a teak outdoor sofa will also last longer than any other type, especially if you invest in one from the best outdoor furniture brands. According to architect and interior designer Priyanshi Jain, teak outranks any other wood for its durability, providing ‘immense sturdiness’ and easily withstanding harsh weather.
Perhaps even more important to a style-obsessed individual like myself, Rafi Friedman, President of Coastal Luxury Outdoors, says that teak outdoor sofas are also ‘incredibly gorgeous.’ ‘The grain of the wood and the different shades of brown that can come out are well worth the price,’ he notes — a stark contrast to run-of-the-mill outdoor sofa frames made of metal or wicker, which feel quite lackluster in comparison.
How do I know? Well, I’ve spent hours in-store and online assessing all things teak. With an eye for timeless styles and knowledge of quality construction (my background is in design), trust that you're in good hands.
With proper maintenance (more on that later), a teak outdoor sofa ‘can last long and be a great addition to your garden,’ architect and interior designer Priyanshi Jain explains. But which one to choose?
Fortunately, making tough shopping decisions like these is my full-time job. My selection below is based on personal experience, real customer reviews, and hours of market research. So, if you're tired of comparing the specs yourself and still feeling confused, know that the hard part is already done. No suspicious retailers — these are Livingetc's favorite outdoor furniture brands. All that's left is for you to take a seat.
15 Teak Outdoor Sofas to Suit Every Budget
Livingetc knows design.
Price: $579.99
Size: 67.75''
This was one of the most inexpensive teak sofas I found on my searches, especially given its size and good looks. It has limited colorways, including this teal and a lime green, on sale right now, but if they play into your backyard's color scheme, then it may be perfect. It has lots of great reviews, but the cushions could probably be more comfortable, and the frame sturdier. At this price, it might be a chance you want to take though.
Price; $1,068.93
Size: 62"
If you're looking for something cool, contemporary and compact, this is my favorite find on a budget. The modern slats and linear design makes this loveseat feel at home in the sleekest of backyards. It hasn't got reviews on Walmart, but if you check it out on Google, you'll see some in real life photos from customers that have me convinced it's a good investment.
Price: $767
Size: 56.5"
This is a good price for a teak sofa, and stylewise this loveseat sits somewhere between traditional and modern, giving you the best of both worlds. While the 3.1 star rating might be enough to ward you off, just take a quick look at the reviews — generally reviewers are singing this piece's praises in terms of quality. For someone else, the cushions were lost in transit, skewing this sofa's score. However, with delivery dates month's away, it's not your usual next day Amazon purchase.
Price: $2,999
Size: 54.25" wide
Teak sofas like this one are a rare find. Unlike most varieties, it's not super sleek or ultra-modern. Instead, it boasts a charming cane style, evoking vintage mid-century modern charm. Just 54.25" wide, it's perfect for small backyards and patios. Its a timeless style yet aligns perfectly with the current design mood, making it one of my top picks at the moment.
Price: $1,916
Size: 67.75''
Another unconventional teak variety is a daybed-style sofa with clean slatted wood detailing. It has a classical and unpretentious elegance, ideal for placement inside a garden amidst ample flowers and vegetation. The tufted seat cushion adds a touch of everyday luxury. Despite its delicate appearance, this outdoor sofa is built to withstand the elements. Plus, priced at under $2,000, it's not the most expensive option on the list. One happy reviewer even claims it's ‘delicious for napping.’
Price: $2,999
This teak outdoor sofa isn’t part of Pottery Barn’s ‘Icon’ Collection for nothing. Crafted from reclaimed wood, it boasts a rich, storied look. The result is teak slightly darker than other options on this list. If you value sustainability, timeless charm, or elegant details (just look at those curved feet!), then this is the perfect choice for you.

Completely head over heels obsessed with this Melrose Teak Outdoor Patio Sofa from Wayfair. Perhaps it’s the fact that I grew up in LA and frequented the street as a teenager, but more likely, it's the ultra-low set construction that has me hooked. It exudes a fresh, design-forward vibe, creating a showroom-worthy seat with a serene ambiance. Accommodating three people comfortably, the 6.7-inch thick cushioned seat adds an extra layer of comfort, and to my delight, it's also stain-resistant, ideal for entertaining.
Price: Was $3,999, now $2,798.99
Size: 84"
California design duo Lawson-Fenning teamed up with CB2 to create this strikingly sleek outdoor sofa. What's most intriguing isn't what's visible, but rather what's omitted. From every angle, its clever use of negative space is captivating: between the wood slats, the armrest and the back seat, and those barely-there legs. I encourage you to click the link to fully appreciate its stunning use of teak.
Price: $3,375
Size: 66.5''
I like to view this piece as a hint of a sofa, as though someone outlined the beginnings of something more substantial but never quite completed it (and I mean that in the best possible way). It's unfinished yet chic, effortlessly nonchalant. Its cream-colored cushions and light teak blend seamlessly with existing furniture (ideally in similar hues), although I believe it could stand alone perfectly well. It doesn't even need an outdoor rug to delineate the space.
Price: $3,897
Size: 128.25"
This three-piece sectional was made for lazy sun-drenched afternoons. Angular and sleek, and so striking with its black cushions. I think this review sums up the appeal of this sectional nicely: ‘Absolutely gorgeous. Super comfortable. Totally worth the price. Highly recommend!’ — and that’s just one of many happy reviews. If you’re after leveling up your outdoor living, look no further.
Price: Was $3,499, now $2,973
Size: 82"
Not to pick favorites, but this sofa might just be my top choice from the list. Inspired by Brazilian modernism, its experimental and open frame sets it apart. Crafted from sustainable wood, you'll notice its rich color thanks to a special staining technique. However, like all teak, it will patina over time if left uncovered. Think of it like wine, improving with age and turning into a beautiful silvery gray. The cushions, made of ivory Sunbrella® performance fabric, are as low-maintenance as it gets. Embrace the sofa's breezy appeal by pairing it with an ivory coffee table or planter.
Price: $2,899
Size: 60"
As for this mid-century natural teak sofa, it's so stylish you might want to bring it indoors. You'd never guess it was intended for outdoor use. With its wide seat and cylindrical cushion, it's both versatile and incredibly chic. Plus, unlike some larger furniture items with lengthy lead times, this sofa is ready to ship and will arrive in just 5 to 10 business days from when you place your order — instant gratification.
Price: $5,499
This outdoor sofa presents a fascinating optical illusion, designed to appear wider than its actual proportions. It's a truly unique statement piece that, for style alone, is worth the splurge. But it's not just about looks; from what I've gathered reading its description, it's also practical. Its cushions are upholstered with durable 100% Olefin, and its teak has been kiln-dried to make it extra resistant to mold or mildew. Pair it with a wooden accent for a charmingly modern look.
Price: $7,699
Size: 73"
Before you roll your eyes at the price tag, consider this a functional piece of art. An updated take on mid-century Italian design, with exaggerated proportions and ample volume, all set atop a plinth-style teak base. It's a showstopper that can single-handedly create a striking outdoor living room. With so much drama and beauty, you can even bring it inside during the offseason to maximize its use.
Price: Was $5,996, now $5,096
Size: 109.5"
While outdoor sectionals can sometimes feel too substantial, taking up too much visual and actual real estate, this option offers a lighter alternative. Its uniquely simple design, with solid teak bullnose legs and slight angles, exudes a tropical and modern vibe — everything you'd want for summer. Crafted from sustainable wood, this sofa promises quality, a hallmark of CB2's furniture.
FAQs
What should I consider when shopping for teak outdoor sofas?
When shopping for teak outdoor sofas, Mick Quinn, Co-Founder and Director of Raft Furniture, notes that not all teaks are created equal. ‘Firstly, choose reclaimed teak wherever you can,’ he urges. ‘This is a no-brainer for the eco-conscious.’ Sidebar: for what it's worth, I actually prefer the characterful look of reclaimed wood.
Next, acknowledge the authenticity of the teak and choose timeless sofa designs, Mick suggests. ‘An over-engineered, trend-driven piece undermines the forever furniture potential that defines teak.’ Why? Well, according to the furniture expert, ‘Once teak has been over-engineered it loses its charm and authenticity.’ Keep these tips in mind and you'll have a beautiful teak outdoor sofa that will not only last a lifetime but remain forever in style.
How should I care for teak outdoor sofas?
According to Milly McEwan, Product & Design Manager at RJ Living, teak outdoor sofas (and teak more generally), 'doesn’t need too much maintenance.' However, to keep the wood looking as beautiful as possible, she recommends 'cleaning it with soapy water and teak sealer to protect it from the elements.' And whenever you can, Milly urges to avoid using any harsh chemicals 'to preserve the integrity of the wood.'
Do I need to oil a teak outdoor sofa?
No, avoid oiling teak outdoor sofas. It won't really help preserve the longevity of the wood, but will tie you into more maintenance than you would have had to do otherwise. It may even cause side effects like mildew to form on your furniture.
Are teak sofas expensive?
You'll struggle to find good quality teak sofas for under $1,000 in all honestly, but that speaks to the material's quality. If you don't have that sort of budget, investigate acacia wood furniture instead. It has a similar look to teak, but is a lot cheaper while looking expensive, helping to stretch your budget.
What you will find though is that acacia isn't as hard-wearing as teak, and while teak will endure outdoors for a long time to come, acacia wood may need replacing at some point. Having said that, acacia wood can probably last up to 10 years if looked after properly.
