See Inside a fashion designer's brutalist penthouse pad in Cape Town

From designing clothing worn by A-list celebrities, to designing these jaw-dropping penthouse apartments, design duo Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit certainly know a thing or two about cool, Instagrammable design...

The property

This striking brutalist modern home features two swimming pools plus views over Cape Town. Designed by fashion duo Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit, the pair have turned their hand from dressing A-list celebrities to crafting this striking penthouse.

South African fashion house KLûK CGDT have dressed the likes of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Beyoncé and Shakira, and they've now turned their hand to property.

Unveiling the latest string to the designer brand's bow, the strikingly brutalist property – named ‘Ilkley’ – sits above Cape Town's coast, with views out to sea, and views out over the Signal Hill nature-reserve in the other direction.

The architecture

Ilkley, located near Cape Town’s exclusive Atlantic Seaboard, is divided into two penthouses, each with open-plan living, three generous bedrooms, a swimming pool each, plus of course panoramic views.

Every aspect of the modern, brutalist properties – from the white walls to the bespoke tiles – has been designed by couple Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit, the founders and creative force behind the international award-winning fashion house KLûK CGDT.

Living area

The living room opens up onto the sunny terrace, and features an eclectic mix of creative and imaginative furniture pieces.

Arguably Africa’s most established designer pair, Kluk, who apprenticed under John Galliano, and du Toit have had their designs worn by the likes of Naomi Campbell, Beyoncé, Shakira and Kate Moss. Three times African Designers of the Year winners, their works have also featured in many high-end fashion magazines.

The Ilkley development, which was Kluk and du Toit’s first property addition to their design portfolio, is priced at ZAR 17.5m (£765,000) for Ilkley 1 and ZAR 22.5m (£983,000) for the upper floor apartment Ilkley 2.

Bedrooms

Like the main living area, bedrooms also open up fully to the outdoors...

... With a swimming pool positioned right between the master bedroom and living area.

With each property featuring three en-suite bedrooms, the apartments also offer air-conditioned ocean and mountain views, a private garden, a wood burning fireplace and a seamlessly linked entrance hall and dining room.

Courtyard garden

There's also a small courtyard garden, offering light into a guest bedroom and a small home office.

Pool

But the main show-stopper is the swimming pool, which offers views out to sea, over Cape Town and towards Signal Hill nature-reserve.

The environmental impact of the apartments was a major consideration during the design process; as such, the pools are equipped with chemical-free filtration systems, whilst all the LED lighting is automated and water is supplied via efficient heat pumps. The orientation of the house is also designed to minimise heat loss in winter and to provide shade in the summer. The use of coffered slabs reduces the carbon footprint by using less concrete in the build.

Both penthouse apartments are for sale through London-based Montague Real Estate.
