A white blown glass sphere that slides freely along a brushed brass ring, Artemide's very clevernh1217design means you can slide the light into different positions, turning it from a table lamp into a wall light or even a ceiling pendant before you can say Abracadabra.
The brass ring frame becomes a support that makes it stand as a table lamp, a hook to hang the light on the wall or suspend from the ceiling, or a handle with which it becomes a useful task light.
Inspired by Oriental culture, the lamp'slight source is contained within a blown-glass sphere that can be moved around as freely as a Chinese lantern.
Aside from a cross between tradition and innovation, the design, by Shanghai-based design duo Neri&Hu, is also a nod towards the growing trend and need forresponsible and sustainable design, conveyed through the low-consumption retrofit LED source as well as the eco-friendly cardboard packaging.
This modern take on traditional Far Eastern design is thesecond project to emerge from the collaboration between Artemide and Neri&Hu, following the similarly playful Yanzi design – a lighting system in which lights balance atop metal perches like songbirds.
We can't wait to see what this design collaboration come up with next.
