Concrete in bathrooms

Tough and practical, yet super stylish and so on trend - here's how to make a concrete plan.

Concrete is increasingly becoming the go-to material in many stylish homes. Its a functional utilitarian surface that gives kitchens or living rooms a strong industrial feel, and it makes a particularly great choice for bathrooms thanks to both its strength and its versatility.

Materials used in bathrooms face a number of challenges, not least water splashing and humidity changes. Although it is a naturally porous material, concrete is uniquely suited to handling even the toughest environmental hazards. Its easy to seal with a clear chemical treatment, which will both soak into the pores and lay over the surface of the material, creating an invisible barrier.

New print and staining techniques allow you to use concrete as blank canvas to have fun with, and it can be honed and polished down into a very smooth surface.

It’s not just for flooring, this Scandi cool design shows how it can be used both on the floor and walls to dramatic effect. Use this gallery of gorgeous bathroom designs featuring concrete in various ways as a starting point for your own concrete plans.
