Flexform celebrates 60 years of design heritage
And as birthdays are often a time for reflection, here's to the now-iconic ABC armchair - first launched in 1996 and the ultimate embodiment of creative director, Antonio Citterio's philosophy for design that's easily recognised and made for everyday life.
Recent additions, such as saddle hide armrests, make it a design classic that keeps on giving.
Founded in the Brianza furniture manufacturing district in Northern Italy in 1959, Flexform is a family affair, now in its third generation. In its early days, the family’s perceptive insights led to them partnering with some of the leading designers of the time: Joe Colombo, Asnago-Vender, Cini Boeri, Rodolfo Bonetto and many others.
The company’s vision also included investing in a talented young architect-designer named Antonio Citterio, a partnership that has continued, without interruption, for more than forty years.
Known for craftsmanship and quality, as well as sleek understated design, Flexform's furniture is still expertly crafted in Meda, Italy - from design concept to finished product.
Although best known for its beautiful and enduring sofas, Flexform produces a vast collection of stylishliving room furniture, as well as elegant pieces for the dining room, bedroom– and now its first outdoor collection, launched at Salone del Mobile in April.
Creative director, Antonio Citterio, adds, 'Our customers are discerning and feel the need to set themselves apart. Like us, at Flexform, they realise the only way to do that is to personify an innate elegance that requires just a few, carefully-selected pieces with which to surround themselves.'
