HOUSE TOURS OPEN DOOR… WITH ALICE TEMPERLEY

The fashion designer and style icon opens her doors to Livingetc's Sarah Spiteri

Welcome to the fourth instalment of our House Tours Open Door series. We’ll be taking a break for a while… but there’s no need to panic. We’ll be returning in the autumn with our virtual tours of amazing homes and share the wisdom of more of the world’s best creatives.

Besides, we are very much ending on a high note, as our guest this week is the inimitable Alice Temperley. Alice has been kind enough to let us tour her spectacular home, and share the secrets behind what makes it so special.

AT HOME WITH ALICE TEMPERLEY

Joining us today from her Regency country house in Somerset, Alice founded her label Temperley London in 2000, just one year after graduating from the Royal College of Art.

Alice’s brand is known for its focus on luxurious fabrics and hand finishes, and is also the go-to name for romantic boho brides. Alice was awarded an MBE in 2011 for services to the fashion industry, while in 2018, Temperley London was awarded the Butterfly Mark by Positive Luxury for its commitment to sustainability.

Alice’s dreamlike fashion creations often have an air of drama about them. Her home is very much a reflection of that distinctive and desirable approach, as you are about to see…

Alice grew up in Somerset with her two sisters on her parents’ cider farm. She returned to the area a few years ago, and splits her time between London and her countryside idyll.

Her house is steeped in glamour, and combines classical architecture with whimsical boho decorating ideas and rock ‘n’ roll vibes.
