BLOOMING MARVELLOUS: Devol's CHIC CHINOISERIE FOR YOUR KITCHEN

What started at deVOL a year ago, with decorative artist Rosie hand-painting the walls and cupboards of its showrooms with beautiful and delicate blooms has turned into a unique service that the kitchen specialist now offers to customers.

Rosie spent a year working with deVOL on a lovely style of painting inspired by traditional chinoiserie and trompe l’oeil - with a unique deVOL take on these classic decorative art forms - and the team was so taken with the designs they couldn't keep them to themselves.

The first area to be decorated was the duck-egg blue walls of the company's Millhouse drawing room, with soft ghostly watercolour flowers on spindly stems, and its Millhouse dining room with delicate hand-painted branches of creamy hydrangea blooms and cow parsley.

The beautiful flowers add a glamorous and special feel to the rooms, and create a certain kind of magic that just doesn’t happen with wallpaper. It’s a beautifully bespoke way to adorn a home.

Next Rosie moved on to her first piece of furniture; one of the gorgeous deVOL Curiosity Cupboards. Opened by lock and key, these glazed cupboards take their cue from old museum cabinets and perfectly suit these hand- painted designs.

The botanical images on the inside and black painted exterior have an elegant, moody and eccentrically English style. Rosie’s paintings inside the cupboards are finished with a crackle glaze and dark wax which gives an aged look, and is a great way of taking off the newness of the paint that adds a depth and authenticity.

Flowers and foliage have been the focus of the designs so far but the possibilities are endless. If you're after a something bespoke you will work closely with deVOL's Creative Director, Helen, to come up with a design that you love and which stays true to the deVOL style, for your kitchen or the rest of your home. Rosie will then paint it by hand.

Prices start at £1,000 per cupboard for an existing design and a little more for a bespoke request.
