TRENDING: THIS MONTH'S MOST POPULAR INSTAGRAM POSTS

This year has started as a game of two halves, with your favourite instagram posts veering from pure and simple, clean white schemes to those with opulent overtures and decadent drama.

Maybe it's a yearning for calm after the storm of Christmas chaos, but a stone-hued entrance hall, a monochrome bathroom and pale dining area were big vote winners. When it comes to decorating with white, it's all about warm tones, texture and interesting details, from wood panelling and flagstone floors to painted brick and period features.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, the jewel-box of a home office below saw the most likes - along with sumptuous Art Deco style spaces and colourful cocoons.
