Welcome to Design Lab by Livingetc. These terms and conditions explain how Design Lab works, your rights as a customer, and what you can expect from us.
Please read these terms carefully before using our services. By using Design Lab, you agree to be bound by these terms.
About Us and How to Contact Us
Design Lab is operated by Livingetc, part of Future Publishing Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 02008885.
You can contact us by emailing our editor.
When we refer to "we", "us" or "our" in these terms, we mean Future Publishing Limited.
Our Services
Design Lab currently offers two tiers of interior design services:
Find
Personalised product sourcing for one item. You will receive three to five recommendations within two working days. The service is free but email signup is required.
Style
A 45-minute virtual consultation with a stylist. After the meeting you will receive a moodboard, styling notes, and a product-sourcing list for a room of your home. This service costs £299.
All services are provided remotely. We do not conduct in-person visits to your home. Our services are targeted at residents of the UK aged at least 18. If you do not live in the UK you should not use these services.
Find Service
When you use Find our stylists will source you three to five options for a single product request.
To use Find, you must:
- Submit your request through our website, answering questions about what you're looking for, your budget, and your style preferences
- Enter your email address to submit your ask. You will be subscribed to our newsletter and can opt out at any time
Within two working days of receiving your request our stylists will provide you with:
- Three to five curated products for the item you requested
- Short styling notes to help you make your choice
Your results will be made available on a webpage that we send to you via email.
The Find service does not include revisions. If you would like additional options or further assistance, you may upgrade to our Style service.
Style Service
The Style service is our interior-styling offering, priced at £299 per room.
When you book the Style service, you will receive:
- A 45-minute virtual consultation with one of our stylists via video call
- A personalised moodboard for your room
- Detailed styling notes
- A sourcing list with links to recommended products
Before your consultation, you must:
- Complete a pre-consultation form providing information about your room, style preferences, and budget
- Upload images of your room and/or a floor plan (if available)
The pre-consultation form will be sent to you on confirmation of your booking.
During the consultation, our stylist will discuss your vision and requirements with you. We may take notes during the call to help us prepare your bespoke response.
Within seven working days of your consultation, we will email you:
- Your personalised moodboard
- Styling notes
- Product sourcing list with clickable links
The Style service is design to give you clear direction and inspiration. It does not include:
- Multiple rounds of revisions
- Detailed floor plans or technical drawings
- Project management or installation services
- Purchasing of products on your behalf
- Ongoing support after your deliverables have been provided
If you are not happy with your Style package, you can request one round of amends. If you are not happy with your Style consultation, notify us before delivery of the moodboard to discuss resolutions. See more in our section on Refunds and Revisions.
Booking and Payment for Style Service
- Select an available appointment time through our booking system;
- Pay the £299 fee to secure your slot;
- Complete the pre-consultation form;
- Upload room images for our stylists to give our stylists a starting point
Payment must be made in full at the time of booking. We accept credit and debit card payments.
Your booking is confirmed when you receive a confirmation email from us.
What if I need to reschedule my appointment?
If you need to reschedule your appointment, please contact us by email at least 24 hours before your scheduled time. We will accommodate a new time according to availability.
You may reschedule your appointment once at no additional cost if you tell us at least 24 hours before your appointment. Any additional requests to reschedule will incur an additional cost of £75.
Our stylist will remain on a scheduled call for 15 minutes after your appointment start time. If you join late, your booking will not be extended. If you fail to attend your scheduled appointment without giving us at least 24 hours' notice, we reserve the right to treat your booking as completed and you will not be entitled to a refund. Any requests to reschedule where you have not given us at least 24 hours notice ahead of your scheduled appointment time will incur an additional cost of £75.
Your Right to Cancel
You have the legal right as a consumer to cancel your Style service booking within 14 days of making your booking and receive a full refund, without giving any reason.
However, if you ask us to begin work before the end of the 14-day cancellation period (for example, by booking and attending your scheduled consultation during this period), you acknowledge that:
- You will lose your right to cancel and receive a refund;
- You are expressly requesting that we begin providing the service immediately
To cancel, you must contact us using the contact details above.
If you cancel within the 14-day period and before we have started work, we will refund you in full within 14 days of receiving your cancellation notice, using the same payment method you used for your booking.
Our Responsibilities
We will:
- Provide our services with reasonable care and skill;
- Deliver the Find service results within 2 working days of receiving your complete request;
- Deliver your Style service deliverables within 7 working days of completing your consultation;
- Use our professional expertise and judgment in making recommendations.
Our recommendations are based on the information you provide to us and our professional design expertise. We will take reasonable care to suggest products that suit your stated preferences and budget, but we cannot guarantee that you will like every suggestion or that every product will be suitable for your specific circumstances. You are responsible for your decision to purchase any recommended product. We accept no liability if you purchase a product based on our recommendations.
The products we recommend are sold by third-party retailers. We are not responsible for:
- The contents of any third-party site or resource we link to;
- The quality, availability, or delivery of products you purchase from third parties;
- Pricing changes or stock availability at the time you make a purchase;
- Any disputes between you and third-party retailers;
- The installation or assembly of products.
We do not provide structural, electrical, or plumbing advice. If your project requires such work, you must consult qualified tradespeople.
We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Notes on Use of Our Services
Your booking is a 45-minute call with our stylist. We cannot extend it or give another session if you attend with a poor connection or in a place with likely interruptions.
We provide our services for domestic and private use only. If you use our services for the purposes of a business we exclude all implied conditions, warranties, representations or other terms that may apply to our sites or any content on it.
We will not be liable to you for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, even if foreseeable, arising under or in connection with:
- Use of, or inability to use, our services;
- Use of or reliance on any recommendations we provide through our services.
In particular, we will not be liable for:
- Loss of profits, sales, business, or revenue;
- Business interruption;
- Loss of anticipated savings;
- Loss of business opportunity, goodwill or reputation; or
- Any indirect or consequential loss or damage.
Your Responsibilities
You must:
- Provide accurate, complete, and up-to-date information in all forms and questionnaires;
- Upload clear images (that do not contain identifiable individuals) and measurements (where applicable);
- Inform us of any specific requirements, constraints, or concerns before or during your consultation;
- Attend your scheduled Style service consultation at the agreed time (unless we’ve agreed to reschedule or you’ve told us you want to cancel);
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection for your virtual consultation;
- Mitigate other interruptions that may impact your consultation.
You are responsible for:
- Ensuring you own the copyright in any images you upload to the service;
- Making your own decisions about which products to purchase;
- Checking product specifications, dimensions, materials, and suitability before purchasing;
- Verifying measurements and ensuring products will fit in your space;
- Purchasing, arranging delivery, and installing any products;
- Complying with any building regulations, planning permissions, or tenancy agreements that may apply to your project.
You must not:
- Use our services for any unlawful purpose;
- Provide false or misleading information;
- Share your booking details with others;
- Use our services in any way that could damage, disable, or impair our systems.
Affiliate Links and Commissions
Our services may include affiliate links to third-party retailers. This means that if you click on these links and make a purchase, we receive a commission from the retailer.
The use of affiliate links does not affect the price you pay for products. You will pay the same price as you would if you had visited the retailer's website directly.
We only recommend products that we genuinely believe are suitable based on your requirements and our professional judgment. Our recommendations are not influenced by the commission we may receive.
You are under no obligation to purchase any products through our affiliate links. You are free to search for and purchase similar products elsewhere.
Intellectual Property
All moodboards, styling notes, product lists, and other materials we create for you remain our intellectual property.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use these materials for your personal, non-commercial use in decorating the room(s) that were the subject of your consultation.
You may not:
- Reproduce, sell, or distribute our materials to third parties;
- Use our materials for commercial purposes;
- Claim our work as your own;
- Remove any branding or copyright notices from our materials.
You may share images of your completed room on social media for personal purposes. We would appreciate (but do not require) you to credit Design Lab by Livingetc.
We may, with your permission, use before-and-after images of your room and your testimonial in our marketing materials. We will always ask for your explicit consent before doing so, and you have the right to withdraw this consent at any time.
Your Personal Information
We take your privacy seriously. We collect, use, and store your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available here.
For the Find service, we collect and store:
- Your name and email address;
- Your saved projects, conversations, and liked products;
- Information you provide in questionnaires (such as style preferences, budget, and product requirements).
For the Style service, we also collect and store:
- Your appointment details;
- Images of your room and floor plans;
- Notes from your consultation (including AI transcript if you permit us to turn this function on);
- Your deliverables (moodboard, styling notes, and product list).
We will retain your Style service information for 6 months from the date of your last interaction with us about the service, unless you request earlier deletion or we are required by law to retain it for longer.
When We May Suspend of Terminate Services With You
We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if:
- You breach any of these terms;
- You use our services in a way that could harm us, other users, or third parties;
- You provide false or misleading information;
- You engage in fraudulent or unlawful activity; or
- We are required to do so by law.
If we suspend or terminate your service, we will notify you by email and explain the reason (unless we are prevented from doing so by law).
If we terminate service due to your breach of these terms, you will not be entitled to a refund for any services you have paid for.
Changes to These Terms
We do not guarantee that our services will always be available or be uninterrupted. We may update, amend or remove services.
We may need to update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in:
- Our services;
- Applicable laws or regulations;
- Our business practices.
The updated terms will apply to any services you use after the changes take effect. If you continue to use our services after the changes take effect, you will be deemed to have accepted the updated terms.
Refunds and Revisions
Our goal is to provide a high-quality styling experience. If you are dissatisfied:
Pre-Delivery: If you are unhappy with the consultation itself, notify us before the moodboard is delivered. We may offer a 25-minute "realignment" call or a 50% refund (£150) if you decide not to continue with the service.
Post-Delivery: We offer one round of digital revisions (moodboard and notes only) at no extra cost.
Goodwill: If satisfaction is not reached after the revision, a final goodwill refund of £30 may be offered.
Non-Refundable Scenarios: We do not offer refunds for subjective changes in taste, changes to your project budget, or decisions not to proceed with redecorating.
Statutory Rights
Nothing in these Terms affects your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. You are entitled to a service that is provided with reasonable care and skill. If the service does not meet this standard, you have the right to request a repeat performance or a price reduction.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will normally be decided by the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you can also bring legal proceedings in your local courts.
Other terms may apply alongside these ones. For example:
- Our Site Terms of Use apply when you interact with our site;
- Our Subscription Terms & Conditions apply when you subscribe to our products or services (for example, the Find service);
- Our Data Privacy Notice applies when we process personal data about you.
If you have any concerns about our services, please contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue. If we cannot resolve your complaint, you also have the right to take court action if you are not satisfied with how we have resolved your complaint.
