MADE.com is back, and these are the pieces we’re loving for a classic Mid-Century Modern look
The much-loved furniture brand has launched its new website, and you can get your hands on some iconic bestsellers that master the classic Mid-Century look
The Mid-Century style has proven a timeless aesthetic. With its organic materials, range of textures, and classic clean lines, the sophisticated design style has enduring appeal - plus, as we head into autumn, it’s a look that feels more appropriate than ever. Of course, it’s also one that MADE expertly masters, and now that they’ve relaunched their website we’ve chosen some investment pieces from their new site.
Besides offering us quality furniture at affordable prices, MADE.com’s comeback also marks the return of some of the brand’s most iconic and best-loved pieces, with brand-new product launches also in the works for spring 2024. From luxe lighting and classic consoles, to functional dining tables and sumptuous sofas that you’ll want to sink into at first glance, MADE.com has everything you could possibly need for a new season shake up. Here are our top picks to inject their classic Mid-Century Modern style into your space.
Lighting
Far too often we treat lighting as an afterthought, but its contribution to our homes has a bigger impact than we give it credit for. At MADE, each lighting fixture - be that a statement pendant or humble table lamp - is crafted with style in mind so it has a chance to shine in more ways than one.
We love the combination of neutrals and brown tones that are usually associated with the Mid-Century Modern look, but if you want to introduce some colour, why not let your lighting do the talking? MADE’s lighting collection features some beautiful glass fixtures, and we love the pretty pastel hues of the Adrianne range. For a serious lighting statement, the Adrianne Cluster pendant encompasses five orb-like shades which, when suspended above your kitchen island or dining table, have an almost cosmic feel to them.
For a freestanding alternative, the Adrianne Floor Lamp really caught our eye, especially in the on-trend pistachio green which promises to cast a cosy glow into your space. This past year has also seen the rebirth of the arc floor lamp, an icon of Mid-Century style. If you want a similar swooping base in your living space, the Weaver Arc Overreach lamp with its flamboyant, floral-inspired shade is a highlight. We especially love the Organic Modern-inspired bamboo material which adds the perfect touch of texture in time for the new season.
Sofas
MADE does all types of seating well, but its sofas are a standout. The star of the show for us is the Kooper two-seater sofa, upholstered in blissful boucle and defined by a silhouette of sinuous curves. Of course, it also features the hallmark of the Mid-Century Modern style - tapered wooden legs. For a seriously luxe living room setting, pair it with the Oki Square glass coffee table - the caramel glass finish is like liquid gold.
For the apartment-dweller who craves more flexible and functional living, the Haru sofa bed range is a real game changer. Both practical and stylish, it comes in large and small sizes and a whole host of colours (including a beautiful butter yellow). MADE fans will also be pleased to learn that the brand has also recently relaunched the much-loved Scott sofa - a sofa that looks distinctly ‘MADE’ (and Mid-Century) with its square frame and bolster cushions. That too is available in a range of different colorways.
Side tables
There’s no style that conquers the console table quite like Mid-Century Modern. For a sleek, streamlined look we love the elegant Aula console table in a brushed brass finish. It features a glass tabletop, underneath which the base’s clean lines meet at an angular intersection, and also comes as a smaller side table. It’s a look that feels heavily Art Deco inspired.
Of course, it wouldn’t be right to talk about the Mid-Century aesthetic without mention of dark woods. For some rich brown tones, the Anderson sideboard comes in a beautiful walnut effect finish complete with brass accents. The minimalist design of the door and drawer fronts with their understated pull tabs means this timeless piece will fit seamlessly into any style. Top with a record player and pair with a teak coffee table or burlwood accents for a true Mid-Century look.
Dining
If you’re looking for some chairs for your dining space, we love the Leora dining chair. Its cane seat and sculptural metal frame give it a bold, shapely outline while also allowing airflow around the room. Interior buffs will notice that the design is heavily inspired by the iconic Marcel Breuer's Cesca side chair, a staple piece from the Mid-Century era. You can rest assured it will endure for many more years to come, too.
MADE is also known for pairing style and functionality, and the extendable Jenson dining table is a prime example of that. The beautiful blonde wood has a lightweight, almost Scandi feel, and the adjustable size means you can accommodate extra guests when necessary. It would make a great addition to a kitchen diner that’s limited on floor space. The Jenson range also includes a dining storage bench that’s perfect for on-trend banquette seating and a convivial atmosphere. We think the two would work wonderfully paired together.
