The new UK Hotel and Spa everyone's talking about

Opened just over a month ago, The Newt in Somerset is the hot new hotel and spa to add to your wish list.

Set within Hadspen House - a Grade II*-listed Georgian manor house and its stable yard, the hotel and spa are part of a working country estate near Bruton.

Now owned by South African billionaire Koos Bekker and his wife, Karen Roos, a former design magazine editor, (and owners of the popular Bablyonstoren in South Africa), the couple have spent the last six years transforming the historic country estate into a spectacular rural retreat.

At The Newt, the outdoors takes centre stage, with acres of formal gardens designed by renowned Italo-French landscape architect Patrice Taravella, as well as kitchen gardens which provide the restaurants and cafes on the estate with herbs, flowers, fruit, vegetables andhoney.

With the creative direction overseen by Roos, the hotel design is influenced by the surrounding gardens, with a palette ofgreens ranging from sage to emerald, and contrasting bursts of colour.

There are 23 beautiful bedrooms each varying in design. Those in the main house have retained their original Georgian features, with sash windows and clean lines. Several have four-poster beds and free-standing baths and all are kitted out with Dyson hairdryers, Nespresso coffee machines and flat-screen TVs.

The Botanical Rooms is the hotel’s restaurant and every plate of food served features something grown or foragedon the estate.

The Spa includes an indoor swimming pool and indoor/outdoor hydro pool, sauna, steam room, hammam and halotherapy room, with facials, wraps, massages and manicures offered.

Whilst here, you're encouraged to embrace country living and explore the historic estate and surrounding area. The setting has inspired the garden-to-table menu in the restaurants, as well as the botanically-based treatments in the spa.

There are also wildflower meadows and ancient woodland walks to work off a large breakfast or lunch, along with the estate’s deer park, as well asapple orchards, cyder press and farm shops.

The ethos at The Newt in Somerset is to celebrate the county and its bounty, with a focus on the local and sustainable. Everything is rooted in respect for the land, the environment and all creatures living on it.
