I Always Spot This Style of Outdoor Furniture in the Most Creative Backyards — Here's a Great Place to Buy One
Sculptural and whimsical, if you want to add some flair to your outdoor space, here's where to find this trending outdoor furniture design
Remember when outdoor furniture used to exclusive be cheap plastic lawn chairs and poor-quality wicker? Nowadays, outdoor furniture can be just as good-looking as the pieces we choose for inside our homes.
I edit Livingetc's outdoor section, and there's one style of furniture I see crop up time and time again in the most creatively decorated yards at the moment — "terrazzo" furniture.
These pieces have interesting silhouettes, and bring color to an outdoor space in a new way. Because they're "faux" terrazzo, made from resin, they're super lightweight too, which makes them easy to store away in winter.
'Terrazzo might have been a bit of a flash-in-the-pan interiors trend, but for outdoor furniture, it's had some longevity, and for good reason,' Livingetc's editor Hugh Metcalf. 'Resin furniture is great for gardens, and a subtle terrazzo pattern not only gives it a bit of depth, it also makes small scratches, marks and dents harder to see. Ideal for outdoor furniture that looks better for longer.'
Inspired by these creative outdoor spaces, I found some great examples of modern, stylish terrazzo garden stools on QVC recently that play on terrazzo in an undeniably sophisticated way. And, we spoke to an interior designer to see how to style terrazzo outdoor side tables in a totally modern way.

What do designers think of Terrazzo furniture?
From terrazzo flooring to furniture — has the trend made a comeback? Well Carolyn Cerminara-Kelly, Principal Designer and founder of Cerminara Design tells me: 'As a designer, it's refreshing to find a product that's both durable and stylish. When you do, you really lean into it'.
Carolyn says terrazzo is an excellent option for outdoor furniture and notes that it has become quite the tend among designers. 'Being a composite material, it is durable in all weather conditions but beyond that, terrazzo brings a fresh and vibrant touch to outdoor spaces, standing out from typical, drab outdoor furniture; this is why it has become a trend with designers'.
