Curated Finds for Selina | Hallway Bench

Inspired by your brief, I’ve pulled together a few different bench options for the hallway, keeping the black door, stair detailing and pale flooring in mind.

Because the space is already quite clean and graphic, I’d use the bench to bring in a little warmth and softness, whether that’s through wood, upholstery or a stronger colour. I’ve also been really mindful of the 150 x 40cm maximum, because I don’t want anything to make the hallway feel tighter than it needs to.

I particularly like the Riva for you because it fits the dimensions exactly, adds warmth through the walnut and gives you hidden storage too. If you want something with a bit more personality, the ochre bench is such a lovely way to introduce colour while still tying back to the black details already in the space.

This is probably my strongest all-round choice. At exactly 150 x 40cm, it uses the full footprint without exceeding it, and the walnut brings in a much-needed layer of warmth against all the white and black. I also love that the taupe bouclé softens the timber, while the concealed tambour storage makes it genuinely useful for a hallway without looking like a storage unit.

Colburn Bench

This is the quietest, most tonal option. I like the warm neutral upholstery against the pale floor, while the brown veneer adds just enough depth so it doesn’t disappear into the space. At 133cm wide, the scale feels really comfortable for the wall, although at 45cm deep I’d only go for this one if you have a little flexibility beyond your 40cm maximum.

If you want the hallway to have a proper moment, this is the one. The ochre chenille brings warmth and personality into what is otherwise a very neutral scheme, while the matt black ash legs connect beautifully with the black stair edging, switches and door, so the colour still feels grounded in the room. It’s 120cm wide, but the 48cm depth is worth taping out first.
