Curated Finds for Elaine | Bedside Tables
Hi Elaine,
You gave a really useful set of proportions here, so I’ve focused the edit around dark timber, two drawers and a raised base, with pieces that feel substantial enough to work as proper bedside furniture rather than small occasional tables.
Your 80cm width / 60cm height sweet spot is quite generous for a bedside table, so I’ve included the strongest options I could find that come close while still keeping the mid-century, contemporary and transitional balance you’re after.
Stylist’s note
If you have the space either side of the bed, I’d definitely keep aiming for something around 60–80cm wide. A wider bedside table tends to feel much more intentional beside a larger bed, gives you more useful surface space, and has enough visual weight to anchor lamps, books and accessories without everything feeling squeezed together.
Of these three, I’d go straight to the Pottery Barn option first. It’s the closest to the proportions you asked for and sits really nicely between mid-century and transitional rather than leaning too heavily in one direction.
This is the warmest, most organic option in the edit. It’s made from solid mango wood in a deep natural finish, and the curved front softens what could otherwise feel like quite a heavy dark-wood piece. At 63.3cm wide x 40cm deep x 52cm high, it’s narrower and slightly lower than your ideal, but still gives you two generous drawers and a substantial presence beside the bed.
I like this if you want the room to feel a little softer and less formal, while still keeping that richer timber tone.
This is the one I think gets closest to the overall brief. At 71cm wide x 38cm deep x 61cm high, the proportions are very close to your sweet spot, particularly the height, and the two drawers give you the storage you wanted.
The Onyx Wood finish, turned legs and brass hardware give it enough traditional character to suit a transitional room, but the cleaner proportions stop it feeling too classic. It’s crafted from poplar wood, oak veneers and engineered timber, and the raised 23cm leg clearance keeps the piece feeling lighter visually.
This is the most overtly mid-century option. The darkened walnut veneer, softly rounded corners and brushed satin metal handles give it a subtle 1950s influence without it leaning too retro. It also has two soft-close drawers, which is a nice practical detail.
At 60cm wide x 52cm high, it’s smaller than the dimensions you ideally wanted, so I’d choose this one if the walnut finish and cleaner silhouette matter more to you than hitting the full 80cm width.
