To address the elephant in the room, it’s been a very, very strange and unusual week for everybody, everywhere.
Many people – if not most people – have been advised to limit social interaction with friends and family, and to adopt social distancing.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. We know it’s not the same as face-to-face contact, but sending someone a little notecard in the post has got to be one of the loveliest ways of staying in touch for the time being.
We’ve been sending our families postcards, photographs and doodles – mostly unwanted “artworks” by our children, drawings and scribbles that no longer fit onto our busy fridges – and if you’re looking to give the kids something to do to keep them busy, it’s never too early to teach them letter writing skills.
We’ve updated our address books to include teachers, neighbours, friends and even distant relatives, and we’ve scanned the web for the prettiest notecards we can find. Because we could all use with a little cheering up right now.
Here are a few of a our favourites…
1. MATILDA GOAD
Matilda Goad’s wonky wobbles have squiggled their way onto these Scallop Trim blank writing cards.
2. ELEPHANT STRIPE
We love Portico’s elephant stripe notecard sets, perfect for sending a big thank you.
3. PRETTY PLAINS
This Smythson design features a studded border motif printed in shades of blue and engraved in silver. The ten correspondence cards come with matching tissue-lined envelopes.
For something more feminine, we’re big fans of this simple blush scallop design too.
4. LUKE EDWARD HALL
It turns out you don’t need to be sitting on pots of money to afford Luke Edward Hall’s fun and fancy designs. We love his dotty Ludo note card design, available in pink or blue.
He also features his signature doodle-style in his stationery collaboration with Papier, including this Elvis design.

7. AYNHOE PARK
Our social media feeds have been littered with whimsical imagery of Aynhoe Park over the years, most notably of their taxidermy floating giraffe. It was only a matter of time before the surreal snaps made their way onto stationery…
The collaboration with Papier includes illustrations of Aynhoe Park’s statues too.
8. DOG LOVERS
There’s plenty out there for dog lovers too.
Smythson’s Spaniels design features a spaniel dogs motif engraved in black and gold, and comes with matching fully tissue-lined envelopes.
They also do a fun dog with Fez hat design.
