It's that time of year when we're all going to start spending more time outdoors, and with that, a decent chunk of time dreaming up some grand plans for what to do with our gardens. But, if you're in need of some inspiration, I think I've found just the thing.

This May, at the annual Royal Chelsea Flower Show, kitchen brand Neptune has launched its very first outdoor kitchen. It's like a classic Shaker-style cabinetry kitchen taken outside with a modern, luxurious feel. It's a design that offers the same quality you'd expect to find inside the home, with materials designed to withstand the great outdoors.

The idea behind the collection is rooted in the vision of the garden as an extension of the home. As Neptune's design director, Fred Horluck says, "The garden is an extension of your living space, and Broadway is our next step in adopting this seamless approach to living. It's an outdoor kitchen that can be used to celebrate every season, while providing the freedom and fun of cooking al fresco."

And, as we enter the full swing of outdoor hosting and al fresco dining, there's no time like the present to make sure your entertaining space is up to scratch. So, if your decade-old barbecue is looking a little worse for wear, or you're just ready to upgrade your outdoor dining setup this summer, this should be going straight to the top of your wishlist.

Crafted from solid, engineered timber, one of the best woods for outdoor furniture, and a notably durable material, the furniture is finished in Neptune's recognizable Cactus shade, a delightful spin on the popular sage green kitchen look and one of our favorite outdoor kitchen color ideas, making for a timeless and playful finish. For the kitchen worktop, Neptune has used UV-resistant, thermal shock-proof Dekton, which is not only extremely easy to clean and maintain, but also super elegant and chic in style.

As with Neptune's classic kitchen designs, the Broadway is a modular system, which allows the individual to adapt and adjust the design to perfectly suit their space. That means sprawling fields and small patios alike can make use of this collection. With seven cabinet sizes available, Neptune's in-house design team can assist you in finding the best kitchen layout for your space, whether that be a narrow galley kitchen or a larger, open-plan design.

"We've taken our traditional modular approach to the new Broadway collection so that it can be configured to fit any garden. With each cabinet, we've used angled panel trims to ensure water run-off and added drainage holes inside," explains lead designer, Mike Charlton.

Understanding just how personal our cooking spaces are, Neptune also leaves you plenty of space to explore the best options for kitchen appliances. Although the design team can help source items from the brand's preferred partners, Big Green Egg and Beefeater Grill, both known for their high-quality grills and barbeques, if you have a pre-existing appliance or something specific in mind, you can also source them yourself.

As of 18th May, this design is officially available for purchase through Neptune's design service. Through this system, you'll work directly with a designer and a project installation manager who will personalize the kitchen to fit the exact configuration of your garden.

If there's one thing the world could always do with a little bit more of, it's joy. And, following a sneak preview at Milan Design Week, today, IKEA is officially unveiling the full 44-piece PS Collection, focusing on exactly that. This year, for the tenth installment of this brand-defining initiative, IKEA has partnered with 12 different artists for a joyful celebration, where functionality meets fun.

Arguably the most iconic name in interiors, for over 80 years, IKEA has offered homeowners across the globe high-quality, functional designs at a famously accessible price point. They introduced us to Scandi minimalism, long before it became a trend, and have continued to surprise and delight with each new launch. But, while it may be the reliable basics that are known as IKEA's best products, for over 30 years now, IKEA has explored true innovation within design, partnering with designers from across the world for their boundary-pushing PS Collection. Maria O'Brian, creative leader of the most recent iteration, explains, "Central to IKEA PS is the idea that simplicity doesn't have to be boring, but that it can reveal design in its purest and most engaging form. My hope is that through interaction and surprise, this simplicity gives way to discovery, with objects that have multiple functions and unexpected details that make people happy."

IKEA has returned to the core principles of Democratic Design, creating high-quality products that are designed to last, at a price point that's accessible to all. Centered around the idea of 'playful functionality', each of the 44 pieces explores the intersection of playfulness and practicality, finding fun in functionality. These are products designed to bring a smile to your face every day — so long as you can get your hands on one before it sells out.

What is The IKEA PS Collection?

First launched in 1995, following a turbulent era marked by the global effects of the stock exchange crash, the PS Collection was conceived as a way for the Scandinavian design brand to return to its roots and celebrate the unique visual culture of the nation. Suddenly, minimalist interior design was decidedly in vogue, and there was no better time to show the rest of the world how it's done.

The first iteration of the PS Collection saw 18 designers from across Scandinavia coming together to create a line of products that felt both innovative and authentically Scandi. Launched at Milan Design Week under the theme of Democratic Design, the main idea was that high-quality, functional design should be accessible to all. This collection, which included pieces like Thomas Eriksson's now iconic PS 1995 Clock, was an instant success and marked the beginning of a new direction for the brand.

What separates the PS Collection designs from the rest of the range is this ineffable element of surprise present in each piece. Explaning how she selects the designs, Maria tells me, "I would say it's a joint sort of feeling in the room when you see a product where people are drawn in, and you see there's an interaction and maybe even a smile on the face."

Since then, the PS Collections have become a way for the brand to explore new, creative ideas, showcasing the talents of artists and designers from across the world. And while the idea of Democratic Design has remained consistent across each development, themes like 'Unlimited Play' and 'Inside Out-Outside In' have offered up new, unique ways of interpreting this philosophy.

What to Expect From IKEA's 2026 PS Collection

For the first time since 2017, IKEA is back with the 10th installment of the PS Collection. As ever, the idea of Democratic Design is at the center of the launch, though coupled this year with the theme of 'Playful Functionality,' meaning you can expect the same high-quality designs and approachable price points, with an added touch of fun — something we could all undoubtedly do with some more of.

This theme, Maria tells me, was, in fact, a product of the designs, rather than the other way around. "Once we started looking at the objects in the collection, we saw that the playfulness was there and the functionality was something that was underlying throughout the whole process, so it came out of the project that those two words were kind of what we saw were represented, but also something that had been really important throughout the process, but maybe not specifically nailed down from the start."

In a shift away from the seriousness that once dominated design, while the world feels increasingly uncertain and turbulent, a little bit of playfulism is exactly what the doctor ordered. In this collection, a group of 12 designers from across the globe offer up their own takes on the theme. Full of unique, personal interpretations, each product from the 44-piece collection was conceived with the same goal: to bring more joy to your day-to-day.

We see designers play with color, picking out the hues and tones that bring a smile to their faces, while other artists search for the joy in unexpected shapes and forms, infusing modern, practical designs with a sense of childlike intrigue and wonder. “I was so impressed with all our designers — they took up the task with so much enthusiasm and energy," notes Maria, "Everyone started looking into how we can reduce materials while creating more impact. This IKEA PS collection is all about challenging and being playful while staying simple and creating interesting design."

The sheer variety in the collection goes to show just how many forms joy and pleasure can take, each equally valuable and worthy of celebration. In offering these artists the opportunity to explore their own versions of joy, IKEA has created a collection that actively encourages us to consider what happiness looks like to us, while also inviting us to share in the joy of others.

As well as joy and functionality, the heritage of Scandinavian design also plays a role in this collection; however, it was important to Maria that this didn't mean moving backwards, "I think with IKEA PS we really wanted to dig into where we come from with the Scandinavian heritage, but without being nostalgic, so we really wanted to look at where we come from and take inspiration from that but move it into the future. And the way we did it is by briefing 12 designers to do their version of that and see how that could surprise us in the team briefing, and I think in the end the collection kind of speaks for itself that we got these playful functional objects."

Joining the inflatable chair, rocking bench, and flexible lamp previewed at Milan Design Week is a plethora of playful and practical designs, with something at every point across the spectrum. At the more functional end, you'll find two elegantly designed, solid wooden storage systems from master cabinet maker and designer Friso Wiersma, while Maria Vinka's hand-blown glass vases are an embodiment of pure fairytale whimsy.

For those with limited space, Matilda Lindstam Nilsson's elegant folding chair-bed hybrid will be a standout; the perfect home office sofa bed solution. And, we'd be remiss to not mention Mikael Axelsson's vibrant green inflatable chair, which is sure to become an internet sensation.

While the full collection is available in UK stores from today, it won't be available to shop online until Friday 22nd May. But, if you missed any of the previous PS collections, these are a few of my favorites to tide you over until then.

When so much of life feels so inescapably serious, a collection that is so unashamedly and undeniably centered around having fun couldn't feel like more of a breath of fresh air. Just like good design, joy should be accessible to all, and this collection brings that belief to life.

To me, the 2026 Met Gala red carpet felt like the opening night of an avant-garde exhibition. The theme, “Fashion Is Art,” set a tone where every designer became the artist and every guest, the artwork. This year’s concept has invited interpretations that intertwine fashion and storytelling; the museum steps once again, turning into an exhibition of creativity.

Designers translated the theme into wearable masterpieces — silhouettes replaced sculptures, textures and materials became their brushstrokes; the red carpet became a gallery without walls. And as much as the dresses looked like pieces of art, I couldn't help but start to see them as architectural forms, too, reflecting modern interior design trends in how they used color, texture, and shape.

The theme, developed by Andrew Bolton, intended to 'explore the relationship between clothing and the body beneath.' But what about the space around it? Here's how I'd reimagine the best Met Gala looks into interior trends.

1. Sour Green

This year's Met Gala may have been dominated by darker, dramatic tones, but there was one vivid color in particular that electrified the evening. Alexa Chung refreshed the carpet, drenched in an acidic chartreuse Dior dress by Jonathan Anderson, that drifted behind her as she took the stairs. Adorned with a singular lily, the look referenced Monet's garden and Dior’s 2026 showcase in the Tuileries Garden.

Her celebration of chartreuse embodies the growing interior 'sour green' interior trend. The daring shade is being embraced in contemporary interiors on glossy cabinetry and statement walls to energize spaces. Just like on the Met Gala carpet, the color injects a sense of sophisticated vitality into interiors. Too afraid to embrace an all-over drench? Opt instead for smaller accents that will jolt a space with energy.

2. Dramatic Drapery

A modern-day goddess, Kendall Jenner arrived at the Met Gala in Zac Posen for GapStudio and embodied sculptural, windswept fluidity. Reminiscent of an ancient statue, her look channeled the Winged Victory of Samothrace, a statue that can be seen today in the Louvre.

In terms of interior, it nods straight towards the dramatic drapery trend we've been seeing more of lately — where textiles have taken on an almost architectural role in rooms. Her cotton-viscose blend gown cascades and ripples in the same way a heavy curtain pools and frames a window in a grand room, developing depth and emotion. It's moody, dramatic, yet gentle and romantic.

3. Gothic Romance

Adorned in a black dyed lace Saint Laurent gown, Zoe Kravitz looked utterly romantically gothic. A contemporary take on a Victorian silhouette, her dress was accompanied by Jessica McCormack jewellery, including medallion eye earrings in hammered gold that produced a moody and sophistically minimalistic look.

And much like her dress, interiors inspired by a similar gothic-leaning romantic minimalism create powerful atmospheric statements through a combination of mood, texture, and depth, not just ornamentation. Combining heavier materials such as aged wood, stone, velvet, and intricate lace adds drama to a space, while envisaging them through a more minimalist lens helps it to feel more modern.

4. Metallic Fringe

In a constant explosion of motion, Teyana Taylor’s Tom Ford fringed gown was absolutely dazzling. Reflecting and refracting light in a celestial chrome, she shimmered as she strutted up the stairs.

Much like polished chrome furniture and mirrored metallics, the gown plays with its surrounding environment. Taylor’s glamorous look combines nostalgia and futurism in the same way that chrome trends play with this contrast in interiors.

Similarly, the playfulness of fringed details was hard to ignore, as she shimmied down the carpet. The decorative detail adds movement to a room, and it's no wonder fringed furniture is trending right now as we all seek to add more 'play' into our spaces.

5. High Contrast

Hailey Bieber’s Saint Laurent dress produced one of the most striking interpretations of the 2026 theme and played with razor-sharp contrast. A 24k opulent gold bodice against a deep blue chiffon delivered a powerful juxtaposition combining deep tones against polished metal. The dress balanced softness and hardness, classical form, and the modern all in one look.

In interiors, we're also seeing spaces move away from the one-tone drenched aesthetic, with designers favoring high contrast rooms instead. Layering tones and textures that are opposed creates drama and depth — the gold against blue provides a friction that resembles the same contrast of dark stone against reflective materials, or light against shadow. Just like it does with the dress, this clashing helps create structure.

This year's Met Gala has proved to me that more than ever, in 2026, fashion and interiors are more linked than ever. But if you need any more convincing, take the time to discover how many fashion brands have home collections.

I've just got back from Milan Design Week, which this year hosts Eurocucina, dedicated to the latest and greatest from the world's biggest kitchen brands. One of the biggest, most crowded stands this year belonged to Italian kitchen appliance brand SMEG.

It was a showcase of incredible range cookers, the brand's iconic fridges in new colors, and some of the cleverest induction hobs I'd seen with retractable downdraft extractors, but what stole my attention was the section devoted to small appliances and the unveiling of SMEG's first air fryer.

The brand's long been known for its stylish coffee makers, and even launched a microwave earlier this year that had more of a design point of view than almost any I've seen before, but I'm pretty sure its air fryer is going to be one of the biggest launches in a while. And for one good reason.

Most of the time, air fryers are pretty ugly. They're generally hulking big appliances that sit on your countertop and don't even bring the cafe-style chic an espresso machine does. I've not succumbed to the air fryer manifesto yet for this very reason. However, SMEG's design might be the one that convinces me when it finally launches.

But before I get into its design, let me be clear: it does more than air fry. It's a dual cooker, as it also has a steam function, so you can cook more delicate ingredients like fish, dumplings, and tender vegetables better. While I haven't actually seen this gadget in action yet, I did get hands-on with it, and it has a little reservoir on top to add water to for the steam cooking.

The SMEG air fryer comes in a range of some of Smeg's iconic colors, which makes it a fun design feature for your kitchen if you're into colorful appliances. If not, its white version is going to be the best bet, and I'd assume the best seller when it releases.

Size is important, too. But in two ways. One: you don't want an air fryer so big that it takes over your entire kitchen countertop; two: you need one big enough to handle the food you actually want to cook. SMEG's has a 7.3-liter capacity, which puts it in the average range for family cooking (not too small, but not for big families); however, size-wise, it feels quite compact when it's in your kitchen. It's a sleek, streamlined design that seems to pack a fair amount of basket space for how much room it takes up.

I was convinced by it, and think I might finally splurge on one when it launches; however, it's not quite ready to buy yet. I can tell you two things about it now though.

According to my sources on the SMEG stand at Eurocucina, the SMEG air fryer will be ready to buy this September, and price-wise, it'll compare somewhere in the range of Ninja's Max 6-in-1 air fryer. The latter does have a few more features and more capacity to it, but it doesn't look nearly half as aesthetic. And for some of us, that's what it comes down to in the end.

Best of SMEG's Small Appliances

Of course, the stylish air fryer is just one of the kitchen appliance trends you can expect to take over in 2026, and I'll expect some other big name brands to get in on the action, soon.

Day Five

1. Visiting LEMA at home

To visit LEMA’s stand at Salone del Mobile this year is like stepping into a real (albeit impeccably designed and styled) home. “It was such a pleasure to move around these rooms, taking in the brand’s sculptural and really impressive pieces in their natural environment,” says our executive editor, Pip Rich.

Top of our wish list now is the Traverso table, designed by Carlo Colombo, with a fiery red finish flecked with white — the perfect point of contrast to a neutral scheme.

2. Bookcases get curvy at Lago

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lago’s Air bookshelf, a design that appears almost to float in midair, the brand is launching the Air Roundy bookcase — a curved take on the classic piece that seems to hug whatever you place in the middle, be it a table and chairs or a couple of cozy armchairs. “It’s a real feat of engineering, manipulating these materials into this perfectly sinuous shape,” says our editor Hugh Metcalf.

3. Cattelan Italia evolves the Craig sofa

Amongst a number of impressive new pieces from Cattelan Italia, one of our favorites has to be the fresh iteration of the Craig sofa. Original in linear, corner and chaise longue compositions, it now comes in a new curvy design that just calls to be leaped on and settled into.

4. Porada delves into pattern — and unveils a new material for the brand

Porada’s showroom was a stand-out for Pip. “For the first time ever, Porada has introduced both pattern and oak, using trees from its own forest,” he says. “Wall coverings in a cherry blossom motif were truly show stopping — the peach tones were just perfect — while the oak felt like a more relaxed version of the brand’s signature Canaletta walnut (which I still love, and which was still very much in evidence).”

The Ortensia lamp by David Dolcini (pictured), previewed this week, is one of the pieces crafted in oak alongside walnut.

Day Four

1. Arte's debut Ancient Egypt-inspired installation

This year marks Arte’s debut at Milan Design Week, and the pop-up showroom certainly makes a good first impression. The Belgium brand’s wallcoverings are less backdrop, more front-and-center feature, forming the heart of an installation inspired by the Ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis.

The brand worked with artist Gabriela de Sagarminaga on the installation, all in monochrome, which translates imagined scenes from Memphis into life-sized contemporary artworks made from raffia, cork, shells and woven grasses. “It’s at once old and new, celebrating craftsmanship but with an almost futuristic finish — one of the most interesting things I’ve seen this week,” says Hugh.

2. Florim's journey into materiality

Florim have been incredibly clever with their installation at the showroom this year, inspired by the curved lines of the tree-lined avenue Foro Buonaparte. The brand uses its surfaces to invoke some of the architectural spirit of the city, drawing us into the building and leading us to a rather impressive display of Florim collections, including those of Cristina Celestino and Matteo Thun & Partners. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in texture and materiality.

3. Italian terrace vibes at S-CAB

There were a number of clever indoor and outdoor furniture pieces on display at S-CAB’s Salone stand, but Nolo stood out for us. A series of tables made from concrete and steel, there’s a push-pull relationship between the two materials, heavy and light.

The brand tells us the collection is designed to live outdoors, under the canopy of an Italian cafe, perhaps, or on a private rooftop at sunset — but as Hugh says, “I can see them working just as well in a London garden, albeit in a patch that (occasionally) sees some sun.”

4. A sofa that defies logic

Edra is always a talking point at Milan, and this year is no different. “The last two years have seen Edra launch fabrics — shimmering and innovative — but this is the first time it has launched furniture for three years,” says Pip. “And the Anywhere sofa was worth the wait.”

The key feature of the Anywhere sofa is the backrest, which can be moved around to suit how you want to be in that moment. “It’s so simple — seemingly — but the back can be picked up and moved anywhere and then stays exactly in place until picked up again,” says Pip. “It defies sense, but the result is a feat of wizardry that allows for multiple configurations for working, conversation, and relaxation. The Dilly light also deserves a mention for its unique shimmer — no two are exactly the same.”

Day Three

1. B&B Italia makes its return to Salone del Mobile

“B&B Italia took the unusual step of not showing any furniture in its Milan showroom, instead displaying a history of its iconic advertising in a gallery-style setting,” says Pip. “As a print editor it was fascinating to see how the brand’s collateral has evolved over the years, while remaining true to its core identity.

“That said, I was excited to see the actual furniture at the brand’s showcase at Salone del Mobile — and it didn’t disappoint,” he adds. Quite right — the brand’s showcase, its first at the fair in 2026 with one exception, is packed full of sleek new pieces, reissues of classics like the Nena armchair, and the signatures of collaborative designer colleagues like Vincent Van Dryden and Michael Anastassiades.

2. The mark of the maker at Iris Ceramica Group

Iris Ceramica Group embraces Fuorisalone’s theme this year, “Be the Project”, with the concept “The Humans Behind” — an invitation to explore tangible objects and surfaces and discover the traces of the people who brought it to life.

It’s conceptual, yes, but walking around the ICG Gallery, we could envision just how the group’s creations can come to life in the home, too. We were particularly taken by Sapienstone’s new “haute couture” surfaces, a series of 12mm thick large slaps that blend natural beauty with fashion.

3. Furniture as art at Draga & Aurel

Obviously we’re going to stop off to see what atelier and workshop Draga & Aurel are doing at any given opportunity, and we were delighted to walk into what felt like a color- and light-filled gallery within their Salone del Mobile exhibition space.

“The studio presented these abstract, sculpture-like pieces — lamps, tables, consoles — that felt like works of art as much as functional pieces,” says Hugh. “This time, they’ve explored glass as well as their signature resin to develop these moving, changing, almost living pieces that look like gem-like treasures.”

4. Natuzzi’s Puglia inspiration

Natuzzi’s usual fun, modern spirit was on show at the furniture design brand’s flagship store at Via Durini. We saw new pieces made in collaboration with Italian designer Mauro Lipparini for the new Caleo collection, and immediately fell for the sculptural dining table, above. Inspired by coves along the coast of Puglia — surfaces shaped by the rhythm of the waves and warmed by sunlight — it’s another success story for this innovative brand.

5. Lualdi’s smart take on the home’s unsung heroes

No one does internal doors quite like Lualdi — and if you didn’t think the subject could be exciting, you just haven’t seen how smart, sleek, and dramatic the brand’s designs can be. The Framework system was front and center in the showroom, with shelves, compartments, and doors all on display. “Creative Director Piero Lissoni has done it again, with his series of doors and shelves that are so smart, so elegant," says Pip. “The unsung heroes of the home.”

Day Two

1. Marazzi's Material Lounge takes cues from listening bars

Listening bars have been a Livingetc obsession for some time now, so obviously, we perked up at their mention as inspiration for Marazzi's exhibition, The Material Lounge, at Salone del Mobile.

This isn't a showroom, rather an experience — a series of spaces defined by their ceramic surfaces, with the brand's new Grande Lume collection at the heart of the show. "I could have stayed here for hours taking in the feeling of the space," says our global editor-in-chief, Sarah Spiteri.

2. Rimadesio’s conceptual art piece

It’s a huge year for Rimadesio, and the brand is celebrating its 70th anniversary with plenty of big moves under the umbrella of a conceptual title, Becoming. Its collaboration with Giuseppe Bavuso, a constant in the brand’s journey for the last 30 years, is on display in the flagship store with new pieces, materials and finishes. It even has a new corporate headquarters launching for the occasion.

And Aedes Memoria, a collaborative installation with Encor Studio and open to the public in the courtyard of Palazzo Isimbardi this week, also caught our eye. This unusual, almost otherworldly artistic piece stopped Pip in his tracks. "It’s a very conceptual exhibition — a fascinating and dreamlike display of lights that is meant to feel like an imaginary box," he says. "It challenged the senses."

3. High end kitchen personalisation from Cesar

Of course, we had to nip into Cesar’s flagship while we were in Milan: the Italian kitchen brand is introducing new versions of our favorite line, Tangram, with plenty of opportunities for personalisation.

"Cesar is absolutely amazing this year," says Pip. "The brand was the first to do curved islands back in 2022, and it has kept up that level of innovation with new lacquer finishes, more curves, and graduated color. A true highlight."

4. AI and the future of food at SKS Appliances

The SKS showroom is an example of how brands can tap into AI and our wider interest in sustainability to capture visitors’ imagination. Feeding the Future is an AI-assisted journey through the life cycle of food, highlighting untapped potential and showing clever ways to preserve and use the resources we have using SKS's clever tech. And, of course, there are plenty of opportunities to taste test along the way.

Of course, the showroom also showcases LG Electronics’ built-in offerings — including an ongoing collaboration with Schiffini, and SKS’s new Tracce capsule collection of undercounted appliances in historic patterns by radical Milanese design figures, above — so be sure to check it out if you're after kitchen inspiration.

Day One

1. Poliform's immersive installation takes theatricality to a new level

There's quite the buzz about 'Multitude', Poliform's installation at Palazzo Clerici during this Design Week. An abstract urban forest of aluminium poles makes for a dramatic backdrop for the brand's new outdoor collection.

"Poliform set the bar high by taking over the most beautiful palazzo, a space that has ever been seen in this way before," says Pip. "The brand’s classic modern furniture sang out against the Renaissance-style architecture."

2. Artemest's take on "Italian Grandeur"

We already mentioned L'Appartamento by Artemest in our Milan preview — it's a highlight of the week — but seeing it in real life is a whole different experience. This year's theme is "Italian Grandeur", celebrating the artistry, architecture, and craftsmanship of Italy through a series of designer-created rooms.

"A personal highlight of mine is The Grand Salon by March & White Design," says Hugh. "There's velvet, there's fringing, there are glossy lacquered surfaces and dramatic floral displays, all set among this incredible Milanese architecture. It's a genuine spectacle."

3. Patricia Urquiola's colorful redesign of the Moroso flagship

Look, anything Patricia Urquiola touches is worthy of attention, and the Moroso flagship store — for this week, an exhibition called "I feel space" — is a must-see while you're in Milan.

Part art gallery, part showroom, it sees works of art like "Dammi i colori" by Heimo Zobernig and "Geometriæ" by Front set alongside Moroso's signature shapely pieces, including Patricia's own Cuadra-Soft Edge modular sofa system — all designed by Patricia to give shape to space.

4. Dimoregallery's new location at the heart of Milan

This week is the debut of cutting-edge art gallery Dimoregallery's new space on Via San Vittore al Teatro, mere steps away from Piazza degli Affari. We relished traversing the two floors of this former bank, admiring the mix of historic Italian furnishings alongside ultra-contemporary, ultra-design-forward pieces by Dimoremilano and Interni Venosta.

"They've collaborated with Cardi Gallery to add works by 20th-century and contemporary masters, like Jannis Kounellis, into the mix — it's a truly cultural experience to squeeze into your busy schedule while you're here," says Sarah.

IKEA's PS collection represents the brand at its best. First revealed back in 1995 at the Milan furniture fair, it's back again in 2026 — now in its tenth iteration. And while the full collection won't be revealed until May 13 (when it hits online and in stores), we've been teased about what's to come with the IKEA PS 2026 Easy Chair, the IKEA PS 2026 Floor Uplighter, and the IKEA PS 2026 Bench, and what's to come looks good.

Following turbulence in the 80s, this collection was (and still is) about the brand returning to its roots (specifically, that iconic blonde pine), and is made up of furniture that's true to a minimalist, Scandinavian style at a low price. It was originally presented under the theme of 'Democratic Design', an ideology that IKEA still holds close: that good design should be accessible to all.

While we don't know everything yet, we're told that the full fresh line-up promises to bring both "function and fun," catering to the way we live today. As I mentioned, an inflatable chair, a trumpet-shaped lamp that bends, and a recyclable bench that rocks have all been revealed at Milan Design Week this week, so let's take a closer look.

IKEA PS 2026 Easy Chair

When it comes to democratizing design, IKEA designer Mikael Axellson thought you couldn't do much better than working with air; "It’s free, and everyone has access to it," he says. His 'Easy Chair' is a reimagining of the 1990s inflatable furniture trend, though you'd never believe it just by looking at it.

Featuring a sturdy carbon steel frame and a stunning emerald-green textile cover, assembly requires a foot pump and a fair bit of enthusiasm. "An electric pump would’ve made assembly slightly faster and easier," he admits, "but it would have pushed the price higher and, once the chair is ready to use, you’d be left with electronic waste." (That sustainable mindset is a big part of the IKEA PS collection.)

IKEA PS 2026 Floor Uplighter

The brainchild of Dutch designer Lex Pott, the 'Floor Uplighter' or 'lamp that bends' scratches that design itch that only a 45-degree cut can. Swivel along two almost-invisible seams, and you can transform the lamp from uplighter to floor lamp to spotlight.

"When you rotate the lamp, it doesn't just change the light, but the atmosphere of the space," the designer explains. "We reduced the design to its clearest possible form, and the function doesn't reveal itself at first glance — but that's where the joy and playfulness live. There are layers that reveal themselves slowly, and an emotional bond that grows the more you live with it."

It will be available in a chartreuse, deep burgundy, and cobalt blue (safe to say someone has been paying attention to the latest color trends).

IKEA PS 2026 Bench

The aim of IKEA designer Marta Krupińska when dreaming up 'the bench that rocks' was to create something both playful and sustainable. And sometimes, the answer is simple: when constructing the bench, the wood grain is reversed, making it strong enough without metal reinforcement. That, coupled with its natural solid pine finish, means this bench isn't just good-looking, it's also fully recyclable.

But what about fun? "That instinctive childlike impulse to just play is something we rarely express as adults, but it’s so important to have objects that invite that side to come out," says Marta. So, she made the bench rock. "From the first prototype, I noticed people couldn't help themselves," she shares. "They'd sit down, start rocking, then call someone over to try it."

It's hard to pick a favorite so far (and we only know about three pieces from the full collection), but I must admit the inflatable 'Easy Chair' has me in somewhat of a chokehold. Perhaps it's the fact that I grew up in the early 2000s and still vividly remember the coolest girl in school who had an inflatable chair in her room... and this is way cooler.

It's been a busy couple of years for the team of London's prestigious V&A museum, and 2026 won't be any quieter. Following the opening of the nearby V&A East Storehouse in Stratford's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park last spring, which allows guests to observe the institution's history-spanning collection up close through its interactive warehouse layout, V&A East is getting ready to welcome its first guests just a few minutes south of the river over the weekend.

The building, expanding over five floors for a height of 42.5 meters and covers a surface of 7,000 square meters, was designed by Irish studio O'Donnell + Tuomey after a 1954, sculptural Balenciaga gown. Beyond its prismatic, jewel-like cement and glass façade, a whole new world awaits: beginning this Saturday, April 18, the V&A East will entertain Londoners and travelers alike across a series of rotating art and design exhibitions, exclusive new commissions, permanent galleries capturing the breadth of human craftsmanship across geographies and epochs, and inspiring retail spaces, including the debuting treasure trove that the V&A Shop is set to become.

Competing with the best concept stores in London thanks to an imaginatively curated selection of artisanal homeware pieces, jewelry, objects and accessories for living, prints, and gadgets, all designed by independent makers, the V&A East's new store is the latest destination to know for lovers of all things serveware, fashion, printed matter, and decor.

The V&A East Is Here — And Stacked With Design Treasures

Unveiled during a special preview dinner held within the breathtaking galleries of the V&A East Storehouse at the beginning of March, the collection of buys available from this Saturday at the V&A East Shop brings together one-off creations by some of the coolest design studios from London and the wider UK, characterful lifestyle products uniting an attention to quality materials with an irreverent look, and collectible editions of artworks belonging in the museum's archive — reinterpreted for the occasion across both wall art and bespoke merchandise.

From the many items, artists, and makers we had the chance to see and meet that night, a few stood out for their ability to reinvent traditional practices — or artifacts — in a modern, unexpected key.

Inside the V&A East Shop — The UK's Finest Collectibles, in One Spot

Sitting in front of his spinning wheel in the heart of the V&A East Storehouse's hallway, Clink Street Ceramics' James Sims demonstrated his throwing talent, which animates timeless vessel silhouettes via pop culture references and vibrant glazed surfaces. In his unique stoneware clay series, Rave Culture Theory, he overlays vintage music flyers and images from the 1980s music scene onto sinuous vases, reigniting the legacy of one of the most prolific and electrifying decades for sound experimentation.

Elsewhere on the same floor, we met Pinar Sevilmis, the founder of Pindex Studio, an independent East London studio assembling handcrafted jewelry pieces made from miniature charms inspired by some of her favorite pieces from the museum collection — from micro Delft tiles and Chinese porcelain to ornate column capitals, marble busts, and Old Masters portraits, among others.

"My aim was to capture the diversity of objects we live alongside and to create little narratives through them, almost like mini collages," she says of her shiny accessories, ranging from nostalgic necklaces and bracelets to truly iconic brooches (I'm currently sporting one of them on my coat).

Also part of the V&A East Shop's brimming-with-creativity roster are Real Hackney Dave's Dave Buonaguidi, whose handmade prints, produced in his East London workshop, gather found imagery with screen-printed text into eye-catching compositions that sew the gap between present and past.

Norfolk-based design duo VIN + OMI, whose exclusive contribution to the store's range combines objects from the museum's collection linked to the manufacturing legacy of East London and some of the personalities that made the area's history — including Anna Maria Garthwaite, James Leman, Mary Moser, and Charles Robert Ashbee — into an immersive print that sees them both recast through their irreverent eye that transcends time. And Coal Drops Yard's Imprint Works, a collective of makers creating screen-printed T-shirts reappropriating the floral visions of pioneering woman silk designer Anna Maria Garthwaite, active in 18th-century Spitalfields.

Overseen by Margaux Soland, senior buyer at the V&A, with inputs from the V&A East Youth Collective — a group of people aged 18-24 who consulted with the institution on the overall vision for the museum, its retail and show curation, as well as advising on events — the V&A East Shop's stock captures the vibrancy of an arts and design community in motion.

What Else to Expect From the V&A East's Grand Unveiling

The V&A museums are known as the home of some of the most thought-provoking art and design exhibitions in London, and V&A East is no exception. Here's a taste of what you can expect to find in and outside the much-awaited landmark beginning April 18, while globetrotting flavors from Asia, the Middle East, East Africa, and Britain will be up for grabs at the in-house coffee shop, powered by London restaurant Jikoni:

• Thomas J Price's A Place Beyond: A monumental, 5.4-meter bronze sculpture by Thomas J Price installed outside the museum, this permanent outdoor commission welcomes visitors as they approach the V&A East's entrance, challenging traditional narratives of public monuments.

• New Work (inaugural theme: Making East London): A six-month rotating commissions programme curated by Madeleine Haddon (senior curator, V&A East), the New Work series debuts with Making East London, a showcase of works installed across both the V&A East and the V&A East Storehouse. Highlights include Carrie Mae Weems' The Long Goodbye, tracing UK immigration histories, Turner Prize-winning Rene Matić's Heard, a photographic lightbox sound system on Black British music, and a multi-sensory installation by Es Devlin, titled The Everythingists (through October 2026).

• Dispersal: Picturing Urban Change in East London: A photography display curated by Brendan Cormier (chief curator, V&A East), featuring Marion Davies and Debra Rapp documenting threatened East London industries.

• Why We Make (permanent galleries): Core galleries featuring over 500 objects across disciplines, designed by JA_Projects with A Practice for Everyday Life and Larry Achiampong, exploring themes like identity, social justice, and creativity.

• The Music is Black: A British Story: A major opening exhibition, envisioned by lead exhibition designer Sadeysa Greenaway-Bailey, showcasing Black British music history with works by artists including Jennie Baptiste, Beezer, Dennis Morris, Eddie Otchere, and Sam White.

Safe to say, it's a glorious day for Diptyque stans (such as myself). This iconic fragrance maison just dropped five scented candles that are here to stay. And when I first got news of this launch, I was surprised at some of the accords wafting through the collection.

Shiso, Rhubarbe, Sésame Noir, Café, and Ortie are the scented candles that have just hit the shelves. And while my nose is definitely partial to two stand-outs, the three remaining are just as exciting for varied palettes.

Have you ever stayed at a boutique hotel and decided you could comfortably live there forever? Surrounded by custom furniture and designer pieces you'd desperately cram into your luggage if only given the chance. Well, I have some news for you: the contents of South Croydon boutique hotel and members' club, Birch Selsdon, are being auctioned off on April 14. I'm talking about every designer lamp, side table, sofa, even the custom-made reception desks, and a "wall of curtains". You could pocket a £655 Ferm Living Dou Floor Lamp for £15 if you're lucky (at least, that's my plan).

Set on a 200-acre estate just outside of London, the 181-room London hotel re-opened its doors back in 2023 following an extensive overhaul by London-based interior design studio A-nrd. The team worked alongside award-winning furniture designer Sebastian Cox on several bespoke pieces that are now — unfortunately for the hotel, but fortunately for us — up for grabs, after it closed again later that same year.

In terms of important information to know: you'll need to set up an account with Bidspotter.com, providing your email, phone number, and card details. The live auction starts at 10am on April 14, and payment is required within 24 hours, plus anything you win must be collected by April 23 ("during specified business hours on a Business Day"). It's also worth noting that a Buyer's Premium (24% of the Hammer Price), administrative charges, and VAT (20%) are all added on top of your final bid. Okay, fine print done, now onto the fun stuff.

With 734 items listed, sorting through is understandably an overwhelming experience — plus, once the auction is live, things will move quickly. As such, I couldn't help but ask those who know best — the ones who designed the space and much of the furniture within it — what they'd bid on first.

For Alessio Nardi, it's the unique reception desks. "We designed them as functional anchors to the space, but the process behind them is what makes them so special," he shares. "They were crafted by Sebastian Cox using timber offcuts from the estate itself as part of its rewilding programme. There’s a real integrity to that material story, and the timber-shake finish gives them an honest tactility."

And as for how he'd reimagine a 'reception' in his own home, "I’d see them working as statement consoles or even sculptural islands within a residential setting," he says. "You could even convert them into storage pieces." Me, personally? I'd style it as a floating home bar.

Another big standout when scrolling through the listings was the bespoke, double-sided blue sofa seen in the orangery. It's another piece Alessio says he'd bid on.

"It was designed by us to bring a sense of fluidity into the architecture; it’s very organic — drawing you into the room through its form," he says. "Upholstered in a Klein blue bouclé by Kvadrat/Raf Simons, it’s bold, but the low, curved silhouette makes it versatile and inviting. It’s one of those pieces that can completely define a space, whether in a large living room or a more open-plan setting."

As for the other half of A-rnd, Lukas Persakovas, the wardrobes would make a worthwhile purchase. (Thankfully, there are 181 of them available.)

"They're a good example of how we as a studio approach even the most functional elements, treating them as part of the overall architectural language rather than something purely practical," he explains. "I really like the green veneer — paired with the oak detailing and raw steel accents, the forms have a strong presence, but the linen curtain softens that, adding a more domestic, tactile layer.

"The marquetry pieces by Chelsea Vivash add that extra layer of uniqueness," he adds. "I think they could work equally well in a hallway, as standalone pieces, or in a bedroom — they have a sculptural quality that goes beyond storage."

Some Other Standout Pieces

Even if you never get to stay, there is so much inspiration to steal from the world's best design hotels — but in this case, it's just a little bit easier to 'recreate the look' in your own home.

Let me be frank — I'm a Kelly Wearstler super fan. So, when I got wind of the collaboration coming between the interior designer and H&M Home, I was excited, but cautiously so. So often, when a designer collaborates with an affordable home decor brand, it can feel a little watered down, designed to appeal to the masses. However, in its fashion and homeware ranges, H&M already has a reputation for making bold moves with collabs, so I felt optimistic, still.

Now that I've seen the range and can share some more about it, I can tell you that if you're as much of a fan of Kelly's style as I am, you won't be disappointed. While I've had a sneak peek at the whole range, we can't show you all of it yet. After all, this collaboration doesn't actually launch until September 3rd, but the full collection will be unveiled to the world at Milan Design Week, taking place in a few weeks.

So, what can I tell you about it? Well, so far, we can show you a few selects from the upcoming collab, and let the designer herself explain what this collection is all about.

Talking exclusively to Livingetc's executive editor Pip Rich, Kelly says: "I'm so excited to be collaborating with H&M Home on a collection born from the idea of daily rituals and modularity — the things we do from day to day, sometimes subconsciously, that inform our lives through design."

"Modularity is a key thread — a step toward democratized design that makes the range more accessible and able to respond to a broader spectrum of environments and needs," the designer adds.

You'll see this modularity come through in larger pieces in this collection, something that Kelly says is: "H&M Home's first venture into larger furniture with a designer collaborator, alongside smaller items of home decor."

So, what can you expect to see? Well, it's Kelly's style, for sure, but it's not watered down, nor is it ideas from the designer's own furniture brand regurgitated. There are smooth curves alongside bold angles; graphic furniture designs that give an almost trompe l'œil effect; and pieces that channel both sides of Kelly's design personality: the elevated, sleek luxe alongside the creative, eccentric, and boundary-pushing.

You'll see chairs, tables, tabletop accessories like vases and candlesticks, a mirror, and a particularly brilliant small collection of table lamps.

The price? Right now, a bit of an unknown, but H&M's collaborations often branch between its collaborators high-end prices, making these collectible pieces at least more affordable. So, if you've ever dreamed of owning a Kelly Wearstler piece, this might be your best chance yet.

Iconic paint brand Farrow & Ball has announced the winners of its inaugural, and aptly named, competition, Iconic Spaces 2026. Calling on design enthusiasts from around the world, the aim was to select spaces that have used Farrow & Ball paint in creative and inspiring ways, celebrating the positivity of color — a joyful approach to the new season.

Judged by a panel of Farrow & Ball experts, the five categories included: Best Outdoor Space, Best Front Door, Best Use of a Signature Palette, Best Use of an Archive Color, and Best Use of Wallpaper, along with the overall winning space dubbed 'Iconic Space 2026'.

However, due to the strength of the worldwide entries, the judges decided to award two overall winners rather than one. These are the five spaces that came out on top across the five categories, and we can absolutely see why they did — prepare to be inspired.

Overall Winners

Best Use of a Signature Palette

The visually commanding Farrow & Ball green paint on the window recess and shutters frames the view outside, drawing the outdoors in, while also providing a wonderful focal point in the space that brings life to the freestanding bathtub.

Patrick O’Donnell, international brand ambassador for Farrow & Ball, explained, “We were all unanimous that the award should be split to fully represent Farrow & Ball as both a heritage and modern brand.

"We all wanted to dive into the bath and were scenario playing on music and scent to accompany the bubbles." The pop of vibrant color is a wonderful contrast to the otherwise neutral color scheme in the space, and adds depth to the color used on the bathtub.

The owner of this winning space, Jane Manifold, explains, "The Grieves Farmhouse at Banchory Farm has always had an extraordinary story to tell, and my ambition was to honor its heritage while reimagining it for contemporary living. Working with interior designer Ali Heath, we balanced past and present with sensitivity and intent.

A palette of Farrow & Ball colors brings depth and richness that shifts beautifully with the light, creating warmth and a gentle sense of whimsy throughout. The result is a timeless, layered primary bedroom designed to be truly lived in and loved by our guests.”

Best Use of an Archive Color

"We loved the way soft pastels played such a striking, yet empathetic role in the structure of the new extension," says Patrick of this winning space in the UK. The joyful colors make the room light and bright, even when the sun isn't shining.

“The skillful layering of our Archive colors in this space can’t help but make one feel happy," adds Joa Studholme, color curator for Farrow & Ball. "The playful use of three colors makes for a sunny and uplifting space created by the juxtaposition of three very different tones, but each with the same intensity."

On this week's episode of Brittany Broski's Royal Court, singer and style icon Harry Styles admitted to having some major design regrets in the first home he bought as an 18-year-old newly famous pop star. One of them we can't argue with — a statue of Jesus wearing boxing gloves is going to be hard to make look chic in any home — but the other was just a 'green rug'.

And I kind of get it, green is a tricky color to balance — especially in a statement textile like a rug, and one wrong shade or an ill-fitting texture can tank the entire space. And since it tends to act as an anchor, it's a green decorating mistake you won't be able to hide from. However, I firmly believe that with a little styling effort and the right green rug, you can turn this trope from enemies to lovers. In fact, it might be one of the rug colors to use in modern design.

And since Harry is rumoured to be moving into a lush Hampstead property soon, it might be time to let go of the regret and give green rugs another chance. So, here's what you should know about styling green rugs so they make your home feel eclectic and elevated.

How to Style a Green Rug?

Decorating with rugs is a beautiful way to warm a space while injecting it with personality. Not to mention, it takes some pressure off the rest of your room to perform and subtly creates a backdrop that complements the decorative side characters in your home.

But let's talk about green rugs in particular. At 18 years old, Harry decorated his first personal home with a green rug, and it feels like he has regretted it ever since. Now, nearly 14 years later, his style feels even cooler, and I'd wager that a green rug could make its way back into his living room vignette with a slight styling tweak.

Design Lab by Livingetc stylist Iokasti Sotirakopoulou agrees, saying, "A green rug is such a grounding starting point. It anchors the space instantly. I’d build around it with warm, earthy tones like terracotta, taupe, and soft creams to keep the scheme balanced and inviting."

And if you want to lend your space a little edge while keeping your rug centre stage, there are plenty of colors that go with green to work cohesively as a multichromatic cocktail.

"A wooden coffee table paired with chrome accents in a side table or lamp would introduce gentle contrast," Iokasti advises. "While a touch of baby blue through cushions keeps the overall look feeling fresh and playful."

You can also play into the maximalist vibe by using the color wheel in interior design. Personally, when it comes to green, I find that an analogous color scheme can make the color pop while feeling cohesive.

But then again, it's all about choosing the right shade of green.

How to Pick the Right Shade of Green Rug

Iokasti explains that choosing the right green really comes down to light and undertones. "I find that warmer olives and moss tones work beautifully in cooler rooms," she notes.

"Whereas forest or sage shades tend to shine in brighter spaces. I always make sure the green complements the existing wood tones in the room, enhancing them rather than competing with them."

So if you're decorating with green, be it in the form of an area rug or a simple runner, this is worth keeping in mind. It's a vibrant color that tends to stand out, but depending on the hue, tint, tone, or shade you choose, you can dramatically switch up the ambiance of the space.

And if you're looking for ideas, why not direct your attention to our past color crushes? If you're stuck in a brat summer state of mind, then sour lime is a punchy choice that will draw attention the moment you set foot in the room.

Here at Livingetc, we have, of course, got a group chat where we drop all the cool stuff we see on our travels, whether that's in real life or when we're browsing through our favorite home decor websites. Designer Anya Hindmarch often makes an appearance, whether it's some brilliant new activation or some funny, clever new piece of design for your home.

But, when news of her intriguingly-scented candle fragrances dropped into the chat, I knew I had to go out and find them IRL. After all, we're looking at scents inspired by Coca Cola, Heinz Ketchup, and Kikkoman Soy Sauce, available right now from Liberty — all staples of the modern pantry, of course, but not necessarily something I've ever thought about in terms of smelling great.

So, I traversed the winding stairs of the iconic London department store in search of getting hands on with Anya's unusual home fragrance collection, and found them nestled in amongst some of the designer's happy-making ceramics. And my verdict? Not at all what I was expecting.

Well, I can't say I was too shocked by what the Coca Cola candle smelled like — its fragrance is pretty much what you'd expect, though perhaps it smells a little sweeter than an actual can of Coke does, more like traditional cola cube sweets.

However, it was more the Heinz Tomato Ketchup candle I couldn't quite imagine. I do eat ketchup, but I can't really abide the smell of it. It's sweet but vinegary, and not particularly, to this writer at least, an appetizing scent. Thankfully for me, then, this candle doesn't really smell like ketchup. It's more in the realm of the wider 'tomato' scent trend in home fragrance right now. It is more of a fresh tomato leaf smell overall, but with a hint of basil, and then some blackcurrant and lime that adds some zing to its herbal qualities. Not quite vinegary in that sense, but there's a kick to it.

Unfortunately, they didn't have the soy sauce-scented candles on display.

Of course, I was only getting the 'cold throw' of these candles by going to smell them in Liberty, so I do not doubt that they get even more complex once you actually burn them. I wasn't necessarily convinced to buy one to take home — the £95 price tag is maybe above average for a candle of this size, but not for a piece of Anya Hindmarch's design, if you're a fan or collector. These candles are fun and kitsch, with each glass votive wrapped in a decorative leather sleeve that you'll want to keep long after you've finished burning your candle.

Belmond isn't exactly new to stellar collaborations. In the past, symmetry maestro, director Wes Anderson, reimagined the 1950s Cygnus carriage of the British Pullman, the group's ultimate Golden Age of Travel-inspired train in the UK, layering pastel colors and swan motifs in a space that defies time.

Later, French photographer and street artist JR, known for its socially engaged, black-and-white portraits showcased as colossal installations in squares across the world, decked out L'Observatoire sleeper carriage of the portfolio's Venice Simplon-Orient-Express with bespoke marquetry, a tea room, and an oculus for stargazing ahead of its 2025 launch, marking the first time a creative from that field lent his genius to the legacy of the iconic, moving hotel. Today, with the announcement of the British Pullman's most cinematic carriage yet, Celia, a new chapter in the history of luxury train rides and Belmond's own heritage begins — and it has Hollywood written all over it.

Set to debut in early summer 2026, Celia is the fruit of an artistic collaboration between irreverent, visionary BAFTA-winning filmmaker Baz Luhrmann of Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, and Romeo + Juliet fame, and costume and production designer Catherine Martin, who won three different Oscars for her work on the first and the third of these maximalist cult classics.

Aboard 'Celia', the New Carriage of Belmond's British Pullman

Looking at the dreamy illustrations of the carriage released by Belmond this morning, which are the work of Paris-based Japanese artist Yukiko Noritake, the creative synergy of the two is apparent — furnishing textiles are masterfully draped and styled in the sketched-up imagining of its lavish interiors already; the passengers' black tie attire oozes with old-style grandeur.

The spaces themselves, rich in the ornate Art Deco motifs we've learned to love in Luhrmann's mind-bending The Great Gatsby and its alternate universe, couldn't be more transportative. Blooming flowers turn into sconces, fairies fly undisturbed in glittery mist, and ceilings give way to forest skies as mysterious as hypnotic. It only makes sense, then, given how their respective craft complement each other, to find out that Martin and Luhrmann are long-term partners. And not just in work, but in life, too.

Housed inside an original 1932 Pullman carriage, Celia — named after a muse the director dreamed up himself and her imaginary life — will comprise a cocktail bar, lounge, dining, and entertainment area, and is designed to let 12 guests embark on a journey of a lifetime.

Its theatrical decor is a direct nod to London's 1930s West End, vintage cinema, and the riveting (mis)adventures portrayed in William Shakespeare's most whimsical play, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Three inspirations the duo has translated into their design by leaning heavily into the manifold textures and heritage of British craftsmanship.

The Making of a Myth, Suspended Between the 20th Century and 2026

In Luhrmann's mind, Celia, the fictional character, is a leading 1930s West End actress whose standout performances have seen a whole carriage gifted to her in her honor. More specifically, it's her performance as Titania, Queen of the Fairies, in A Midsummer Night's Dream that earns her that special space on the train, which, decorated with leafy motifs, theater-like red curtains, and suspense-filled passages, blurs the lines between fantasy and reality.

An embodiment of "playfulness and after-hours mischief", Celia, this time, the carriage, is a "world of make-believe," its creators explain, and not simply in the storytelling sense of things.

If it's true that, like we wrote while reporting on the biggest 2026 travel trends, the future of travel ditches one-size-fits-all tourism in favor of a hyper-personalized, exclusive approach to being on the move, the new British Pullman carriage by luxury giant Belmond raises the bar for curated cultural and gastronomic experiences conceived to be lived on the tracks.

Celia, which will depart from London's Victoria Station across all British Pullman journeys, is projected to operate as a standalone, private carriage within the train, Belmond explains. This includes dedicated stewards, as well as one-off fine dining offerings to be indulged in across its dining carriage, lounge and bar, pantry, and kitchen. But the privileges of boarding this Hollywood-worthy section of the train don't end here.

A launch like that of the British Pullman's Celia is memorable in itself, but for us, the design-obsessed team of Livingetc, striking visuals alone are never enough. Along with the pervading narrative that, quite literally, drives its spirit forward, the Luhrmann-Martin-co-authored carriage caught my eye for how it perfectly sums up the essence of what the most recent edition of Paris's leading design fair Maison&Objet identified as one of this year's biggest interior design trends: Neo Folklore.

A celebration of "character, craft, and storytelling, rooted in local tales and reimagined know-how, this trend invites you to mix tradition with a playful twist," the trend-forecasting platform said, adding it manifests through "bold colors, expressive patterns, and authentic textures", at its very best when blended. Developed in collaboration with Britain's very best artisans and designers, Celia weaves craftsmanship into "a world of historied theater and cinema".

Flora and fauna take center stage in the train, informing the intricate patterns of the A Dunn & Son marquetry. Bespoke furniture, glasswork, and embroidered details by Bill Cleyndert, Tony Sandles, Hand and Lock, and J.K Interiors, respectively, unleash an air of researchedness and exclusivity, reinterpreting long-lived techniques via contemporary wit and reverie. While mosaics and hand-painted walls and ceilings let nature run wild, feeding into the carriage's mysticism.

The fine bone China comes courtesy of historic British manufacturer Duchess China, again, interspersed with present-day accents by David Mellor, who provided the cutlery, and Tom Dixon, tapped for the glassware. This and more for what Luhrmann describes as "a once-in-a-lifetime experience" that allowed him and Martin "to push the boundaries of creativity, luxury, and uniqueness."

"Stepping inside the carriage is like being transported into another world, one in which guests are invited to become part of the story," he says. "Celia, at its heart, is a magical mystery tour — a traveling dining experience for friends or an intimate celebration, filled with food, music, wine, laughter, and performance."

For Martin, the same applies. "Onboard, I imagine people eating, dancing, and falling in love, taking photographs, celebrating life's great moments and adventures — all within a world that offers a pause from the chaos of everyday life," she shares of her hopes for the carriage's own life. "Celia offers a moment of respite. A moment of celebration. A small, luminous bubble of love and light."

You don’t own the TV, so if it develops a fault, you just get a replacement (though it’s probably best to opt for the optional insurance, so there’s no quibbling about reasonable use).

Given you don’t own the set, there’s also an advantage at the end of the subscription period, where you can just switch to the latest model. While TV tech doesn’t move as fast as smartphones (especially if you use something like Apple TV 4K to navigate streaming apps), it’s nice to have the option to move on without having to shift the old model. The average TV’s lifespan is five to ten years, but you can upgrade after 12, 24 or 36 months, depending on the size of the monthly payment you can bear.

And Why You Might Not Want to

That makes for a compelling case on paper, but there are some serious drawbacks that you should at least be aware of before you sign on the virtual dotted line.

First off, there’s the lack of choice. Want an OLED screen that’s larger than 55 inches? You’re out of luck. That may change over time, but for now, you’re giving up some choice for the ability to pay less up front.

More importantly though, “subscription” is really just a fancy way of saying “rental”. You may or may not be old enough to remember when Radio Rentals was a feature of the high street, but it began to disappear when technology became cheap enough to make the rental model unappealing.

The main drawback is that you don’t own the TV at the end of your contract, as you would with a smartphone. Those payments are for the privilege of borrowing the TV: stop paying at the end of your contract, and there’s a TV-shaped hole in your living room.

That in turn means that you can’t sell on your TV when you decide it’s time to upgrade. Granted, TVs don’t hold their value particularly well, but if you buy one upfront for over £1,000, you can at least get some of that money back eventually. Not so with a subscription service like this.

The headline prices might also not be quite what they seem. The monthly subscriptions quoted above are for 36 months, which, to my min,d is fine for televisions, as the technology doesn’t move that fast, and I’m perfectly happy with my OLED LG BX from 2020. But if you do want the flexibility of upgrading or switching screens sooner, then you’ll pay more for 12 or 24-month contracts.

Make sure you do the maths on the fees and make sure you’re not paying substantially more than the cost of buying outright, too. If you are, ultimately, you may find that buying a TV in installments via something like Klarna or Very’s Buy Now Pay Later options is better for you, as long as you’re certain you can keep up with the payments.

Is renting your TV worth it?

In short, there are pros and cons to getting a TV via LG Flex. There’s a reason that Radio Rentals was a successful business for decades, and while cheap technology put an end to the business model, those seeking a top-end AV experience will still need to shell out a lot. Using LG Flex is a way of making that manageable by spreading the cost.

But while not owning the TV has its advantages in terms of flexibility and not needing to worry about things like burn-in, you’re essentially paying to borrow something, and you won’t recoup any of your costs back by selling it when you’re ready to upgrade. A ‘buy now, pay later’ option may be better for you, if your financial situation is secure enough to handle the payments.

In other words, if you know what you’re signing up for, LG Flex is a perfectly viable way of boosting your home cinema experience without a painful upfront cost. It won’t be for everyone, but if it lets more people enjoy the magic of OLED, then it’s certainly a good thing.

With spring slowly creeping up, I've got redecorating and interior refreshes on my mind. How can I make my space feel more lively for the new season? You don't have to buy all new decor or spend a ton of money to make your home feel new. Sometimes, a fresh lick of paint makes even your oldest pieces feel refreshingly revived.

Yes, it's Paris Fashion Week, but if there's one thing I've noticed in fashion shows in recent times, it's that interior design is playing an increasingly prominent role. Often it's a small touch in the runway design, maybe even just the chairs the front row is sitting on, but for his fall-winter 2026 show for Louis Vuitton Men, Pharrell Williams has pushed the concept to new frontiers.

The set dressing for the TIMELESS Louis Vuitton Men's collection saw the designer create an entire house as a backdrop for the collection. Called DROPHAUS, this pre-fabricated house concept, designed by Pharrell in collaboration with architecture firm Not a Hotel, straddles both futuristic and timeless design, imagining the life of the modern 'Louis Vuitton dandy'.

Furnished with pieces from Pharrell's HOMEWORK furniture, the DROPHAUS contains an actual bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, lounge, and, of course, a closet, but there was one more unexpected space that stole the show design-wise.

While the rest of the fishbowl-esque home is decorated with simple, luxurious neutrals, in one corner, you'll find a 'listening room', decked out with more color, some slick sound equipment, incredible vinyl record storage, and a very exciting seating design.

Listening rooms aren't a new concept, but they're certainly an idea entering the zeitgeist more prominently of late. It's a space with a highly specific function — the dream of audiophiles everywhere — but more importantly, the listening room, especially in Pharrell Williams's imagining, is a dedication to vinyl as physical media.

There is a near-endless list of societal touchpoints that explain why vinyl has such cultural relevance right now, everything from popstars like Taylor Swift introducing new audiences to the medium to streaming services deleting whole TV shows from their platforms, never to be seen again; however, in interior design, there might just be another reason altogether.

In Pharrell's listening room, vinyl sleeves become decor. Arranged and backlit like an enormous gallery wall of artworks, in this setting, they may do little more than add a few extra Louis Vuitton logos into the set, but the idea of music as a physical way to decorate and personalize a space is an interesting one. How often, after all, do we refer back to our musical preferences as defining elements of our characters?

"Physical media offers a sense of permanence and identity," interior designer Ola Jachymiak-Bigo, founder of Ola Jachymiak Studio, tells me. "The collections tell personal stories and make interiors feel lived-in and expressive. Rather than hiding these items away, clients now want them integrated into the interior architecture, often through open shelving or dedicated listening and reading areas, where they become part of everyday life and the spatial narrative of the home."

It's an interesting way to make your home ultra-personalized. I love the idea that it's such a talking point for guests, too. Imagining the DROPHAUS listening room in a real home, there'd be hours of conversations to be had from the wall storage alone, and that's before you even begin flicking through the vinyl stored behind the record player. And you can't say that for a Spotify playlist.

Here's how you can bring the look home.

I can't, of course, finish this story without acknowledging that incredible sofa design in the center of the room. A moveable, flexing design that can one moment be a flat daybed, and the next a cocooning seat for friends, it reminds me of the design trend for deep, sociable seating we've seen entering homes of late.

That, and of course, that shocking sour lime color, that brings some energy, fun, and joy to Pharrell's interpretation of a listening room.

When I see Dua Lipa has posted on Instagram, I've come to expect that I will be jealous of whatever she's doing. Normally, it's a peek into one of her various holidays or stunning taste in fashion. But most recently, it was the fact that she has one of artist Chris Wolston's iconic, sculptural Nalgona Chairs in her home. (Of course she does).

I love design that blurs the line between purely functional and totally aesthetic. Julien Sebban, founder of equally cool interior design firm Uchronia, says, "a light fixture or piece of furniture becomes a work of art when it tells a story and transforms the atmosphere of a space."

This is definitely true of the Nalgona Chair, an iconic chair that easily rewrites the space in which it's set. But how do you go about working with pieces as bold as this, or even styling multiple together, as Dua does? It's all about embracing the playful side of design, and once you get a look inside this popstar's home, you'll definitely understand what I mean.

But first, a little background on this iconic piece of furniture. This playful wicker chair was designed by renowned artist Chris Wolston and is a part of a wide 'Nalgona Series'.

Each chair in this collection is made of the same material and follows a similar silhouette of an armed and legged chair in various poses. And it's fitting — Chris's style is all about using traditional materials in unconventional ways, and these humanoid figures definitely do so.

"It challenges the idea of a simple seat by becoming a living sculpture that interacts with the human body," explains Uchronia's Julian Sebban. "Woven from Colombian wicker, it evokes both traditional craftsmanship and an organic, almost anthropomorphic form inspired by the body, as if the chair were welcoming and embracing you."

Seeing a piece like this in Dua Lipa's home is definitely a marker of her good taste. Her home, which we have only caught glimpses of in the background of social media posts, is decorated highly eclectically — there's an assortment of colorful sofas, bold canvases, and sculptural art pieces tastefully strewn around a brick-walled, industrial-modern space.

Eclectic style is all about creativity and drawing from different influences to capture a wholly new and original design. But when you're introducing multiple art pieces into one space, it can be hard to strike the balance between eclectic and just plain random.

To achieve this, Julian says to lead with emotion and not rules. "You can mix styles, eras, and influences, as long as there is a common thread," he says. "This could be a color palette, a recurring material, or a lighting ambiance. The key is to think of the space as a stage set: each room is different, but they all contribute to the same narrative."

Apart from her Chris Wolston chair, Dua's recent socials have also drawn my attention to an oversized, gold, cherry-shaped pendant light that hangs over her dining table. Does it feel like a natural pairing alongside the wicker chair? Perhaps not, but I argue that this combination does exactly what Julian recommends: both pieces contribute to the same story. They use striking materials in a modern and playful shape — just what you would expect of a young, fun, and partying pop star.

And sure, a 3D Muppets canvas may be a little more left-of-field, but, once again, it ultimately strives for the same goal: playfulism. Great interiors consider how the space will be used. From the looks of Dua's Instagram, this space is for fun and good times, and her interiors do everything to embrace that.

When it comes to designing a stylish closet, surely fashion designers know best. And Victoria Beckham? Even better. So, when she posted a video recently sharing two dresses she was considering wearing to an event, you bet I was looking at what was in the background instead. And I wasn't disappointed: a chartreuse velvet sofa boldly paired with dusty pink armchairs.

And, of course, she's bang on trend. Yellow-greens have been everywhere recently. We even named 'Sour Lime' our January Color Crush. Now, would I have initially thought to pair it with a dusty pink? Probably not — but it works. As for why, Livingetc's Design Lab by Livingetb stylist Miaad Latoof explains: "Chartreuse is a confident choice, but when styled with intention, it feels effortlessly chic. In this space, Victoria softens its zesty edge with dusty pink to create an overall refined look."

Dressing rooms are a space for experimentation, creativity, and style, after all, and that shouldn't stop with your clothes. But even if you aren't so lucky as to have an entire room dedicated to the art of dressing, there is so much we can learn from Victoria's bold dressing room idea, why it works, and how to steal the look.

Victoria's stylish sofas are the most colorful part of her largely monochromatic room. Elsewhere, the floor-to-ceiling wardrobes finished with thin black detailing and white doors speak to a simple yet dramatic type of glamour. Another reason the bold chartreuse-and-dusty-pink combination works so well is the way it complements the room's structural features.

"Set against classic interior architectural details, the results feel quietly Parisian," explains Miaad. "This is evidence that bold colors don't always need theatrics to feel elevated." This is definitely true in Victoria's space, with its white crown moulding, intricate ceiling rose, and crystal chandelier, all of which add to that understated yet elegant feel.

All these features, and especially the dramatic lighting fixture, ooze with old-world glamour, while the bold color combination helps to lift the space out of the past and bring it into contemporary interior design trends; the perfect blend of old and new.

While the invigorating feel of chartreuse is perfectly balanced with the antique finish of dusky pink, there are — perhaps surprisingly — plenty of other combinations that work with this sour green to create an equally stylish finish.

"The shade itself is surprisingly versatile," Miaad explains. "It also sings alongside teals and sharper blues for contrast, warms beautifully with browns, and takes on a richer depth when paired with maroons."

But there's something about the unexpected and feminine elegance of Victoria's choice of dusty pink that has me hooked on this look. And if you're the same, here's some decor you can shop to recreate the look at home (even if you don't have a dressing room).

Planter for Your Dahlias

Renovation content isn't typically what I go to Kylie Jenner's Instagram account for, but lately she's been feeding us sneak peeks of her latest home build, which features a two-storey closet, no less. And while I'm certainly captivated by that idea, it's her bathroom that's really caught my attention — with a shower drenched in Calacatta Viola marble.

Now, those who know, know that this streaky, burgundy type of marble was everywhere a few years ago. I'm not saying it ever really left the trend cycle, but with color trends for 2026 heavily favoring the deep, cherry-brown color again, I wouldn't be surprised to see it back in the spotlight (and our showers) in 2026.

"Although it's certainly true that Calacatta Viola had a strong moment in the spotlight a few years ago, Kylie's bathroom proves that this striking marble is far from passé," says Livingetc design writer Maya Glantz (who spends most of her days staring at bathrooms). "Unlike other more statement-making materials, this stone is neutral enough to remain a timeless classic, while the intense purple veining keeps it from ever feeling boring or safe." Could this be a late bathroom trend for 2026?

As we collectively shift towards statement-making interiors, I suspect the popularity of bold stones like Calacatta Viola will only continue to rise.

"People are moving away from the all-white minimalism of previous years and embracing richer colors, dramatic veining, and natural textures that feel both luxurious and individual," agrees Urvashi Agarwal, the creative director of Stone World London. "Calacatta Viola, with its deep plum and burgundy veining set against a soft white background, perfectly captures that mood, bringing a sense of drama and elegance that immediately defines a scheme."

And don't be intimidated by its drama. "Calacatta Viola would look beautiful anywhere in the home, but the calming, luxurious finish lends itself particularly well to spa bathrooms," adds Maya.

Calacatta Viola marble has beautiful complexity in its veining, which means it works just as well in small accents as it does in larger spaces, bringing added depth and interest.

"When marble has dynamic, colored veining, it pushes the material beyond a traditional backdrop into something more expressive," says Grazzie Wilson, the head of creative at Ca’ Pietra. "Marble will naturally develop character as it is lived with, and for many homeowners, that subtle patina becomes part of the story of the space rather than something to avoid."

If you really want to take it to another level, try mixing different stones. This bold idea can work by using similar shades to create textual depth or, with multiple colors, to create a vivid statement.

So, it seems this classic stone isn't going anywhere soon. And as for Kylie's renovations, consider me hooked — I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for how else she decorates this, so far very promising, home.

Shop Calacatta Viola Accents

We know Kylie is king when it comes to all things luxurious, so now I'm wondering whether her Calacatta Viola-clad shower might even be a steam shower... now wouldn't that be the dream?

It's 2026, and the idea of the 'smart' home is becoming increasingly attainable (even my uncle uses Alexa). Late last year, IKEA announced its plans to roll out 20 "aesthetically pleasing" smart home products over the coming years, and now, the brand has revealed its viral VARMBLIXT 'donut lamp' has undergone a techy, color-shifting rebrand (again, at the hands of designer Sabine Marcelis).

The updated design lets you adjust the color, brightness, and even light temperature of the iconic round lamp (arguably one of IKEA's best product releases of all time). Designer Sabine Marcelis has carefully curated 12 new preset colors, which softly transition between white through to a glowing amber, warm red, soft pink, cool lavender, and turquoise, before eventually returning back to white.

“We spent a lot of time fine-tuning the transitions between the curated colors," the Dutch designer shares. "What makes this lamp unique is that switching between colors is not a sudden change, but a very smooth journey through all the hues to get to the next color. The light slowly moves through color to, in turn, transform the color of a space."

And yes, it's a smart light — controlled via the BILRESA remote, which comes included. Feel compelled towards a specific shade? (Perhaps green come Halloween?) Well, you're in luck, as the updated VARMBLIXT lamp can also be controlled with the IKEA Home Smart app and other Matter-compatible systems, giving you access to over 40 shades from the full color spectrum.

But its cool color-shifting qualities aren't the only update. While the VARMBLIXT smart 'donut lamp' has retained its iconic curvaceous silhouette (that arguably led to the thousands of videos shared across social media since its release three years ago), its glossy orange finish has been replaced with a more modern, matte white glass that lets the light softly diffuse from within.

"The focus this time was on what more we could explore within the iconic form of the donut lamp," Sabine explains. "Color variation is one part of it, but at its core VARMBLIXT has always been about how you experience light. In the original donut lamp, external light played on the glossy surface and bounced beautifully off it. With this version, the matte finish lets the light glow softly from within. It’s a very natural, technical evolution of how light can be experienced."

IKEA's updated VARMBLIXT smart 'donut lamp' is set to land in-store and online in early April 2026 and will cost £55 (the same as the original VARMBLIXT lamp, which will remain for sale). It will launch alongside an updated smart version of Sabine Marcelis' VARMBLIXT pendant lamp, too, which focuses more on the "nuances of white light," and transitions between crisp, cool daylight tones to warmer yellows.

The launch is also, apparently, just the beginning of Sabine Marcelis' latest collaboration with IKEA, with another joint collection exploring "new interpretations of light, and the emotional value it brings to everyday spaces," teased for a 2027 release.

Safe to say, there are some seriously cool collaborations coming out of IKEA right now. While we wait for this one to drop, it's worth checking out the kalidescopic IKEA x Tekla Evelina Bluetooth speaker/lamp collaboration.

Back in August, Samsung announced its first TV using Micro RGB technology. While this is an upgrade on the popular Mini LED technology, proving to be a capable competitor to OLED, this particular announcement had limited appeal because the MR95F came in just one size: 115 inches at around $30,000 in the States. Too big for most people’s wallets or living rooms.

But just months later, with the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) upon us, the brand has made this Samsung TV proposition more appealing. While the headline announcement champions the arrival of the world’s largest Micro RGB TV — 130 inches with pricing yet to be announced — the company has also revealed five more models more appropriately sized for the average living space.

Soon, you’ll be able to purchase Samsung Micro RGB TVs in 55, 65, 75, 85, and 100-inch sizes. Prices are to be confirmed, but assuming they’re within budget, should you be looking to make your next TV a Micro RGB TV? Here are the pros and cons.

What Is Micro RGB TV tech?

Micro RGB is an advancement on the Mini LED technology that’s been popularized in the last few years.

Like Mini LED, the pixels aren’t light emitting and need backlighting. The difference is that the backlight can produce red, blue and green light via tiny LEDs that illuminate a liquid crystal layer. As these are individually controlled, dimming zones can be tightly controlled.

The upshot of this is that you get both better contrast and greater color accuracy than Mini LED TVs can deliver. Indeed, Samsung boasts that its Micro RGB technology can display 100% of the BT.2020 HDR color gamut, which is a huge deal. That means these TVs can kick out billions of colors, displaying more than any other TV technology so far produced.

Or, as Samsung Electronics’ Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business, Hun Lee, puts it: “Our Micro RGB portfolio delivers vivid color and clarity that make movies, sports and TV shows feel more expressive and engaging.”

How Does Micro RGB TV Tech Compare to OLED?

So Micro RGB is a step up from Mini LED, but how does it compare to OLED?

Well, there are pros and cons. Starting with the positives, as OLED TVs use self-illuminating pixels, there are limits to how bright they can get, making them a poor choice for bright rooms with unblockable natural light. Micro RGB sets should have no such difficulties, reaching a far higher brightness and suffering from no washout, even in very well-lit environments.

This gives them a second advantage. While OLED TVs have got better at avoiding the dreaded burn-in, where static images can get stuck on the screen over time, Micro RGB is completely immune to the problem in the first place. That makes it a good choice if you value picture quality, but remain paranoid about the risks of extended OLED usage.

Color accuracy should also be better if Samsung’s BT.2020 HDR claims stand up to independent testing. That 100% coverage is unheard of.

Where Micro RGB loses out to OLED is in terms of black levels and contrast. As explained above, the new technology is backlit, and while there are likely thousands of dimming zones in the new sets, this still can’t match OLED, where each pixel is self-illuminating, and thus can be turned on or off for infinite contrast and perfect black levels. In other words, Micro RGB TVs may still experience some blooming where neighboring pixels leak light onto dark areas.

The Alternatives to Samsung

While Samsung is dominating the Micro RGB headlines at the moment, it’s not the only game in town, and CES is packed with companies showing off their own implementation of the technology.

HiSense released its first Micro RGB TV last year, beating Samsung’s then largest 115-inch model by a single inch. The 116-inch 116UX is available at Curry's for £24,999.

Like Samsung, the company has also announced a whole bunch of smaller TVs. These will range in size between 55 and 100 inches, branded UR9 and UR8. And, possibly with an eye on the future, the company also revealed a 163-inch model which adds a ‘Y’ to the ‘RGB’ mix. The addition of yellow, HiSense says, expands the spectrum “where human vision perceives the most nuance”.

LG is also getting in on the act, with its own Micro RGB “evo” lineup, featuring 75, 86 and 100-inch models. These also boast the 100% BT.2020 color gamut claim, and feature over 1,000 dimming zones, but once again pricing has yet to be confirmed to see who wins in the Samsung vs LG TV battle.

That’s the big unknown of Micro RGB in 2026. We only have a couple of pricing data points here: $19.999 to $32,000 from US retailers. But these prices are for TVs sized 100, 115 and 116 inches, and the real proof will be how much the companies charge for their more living room-friendly models.

Don’t get your hopes up too much, though. This is new technology and, as such, you should expect to pay a premium for some time, before prices settle to more mainstream levels as OLED has in recent years. Nonetheless, the arrival of technology to rival OLED is an extremely exciting development for home cinema buffs.

Rocco Ritchie's studio tour may have made headlines for the sassy comment left by the artist's superstar mum, Madonna, but my attention was focused on another 80s icon entirely. Despite only appearing on Rocco's Instagram post for no more than two seconds, that flash-in-the-pan feature was more than enough for me to identify the design icon that is Giandomenico Belotti's Spaghetti Chair.

The simplistic design of this iconic chair — certainly one of the standout furniture pieces of the 20th century — has gone on to shape modern Italian design, and its impact on furniture design remains as clear today. However, despite the chair's illustrious reputation, it remains somewhat of an underground hero — not one you're bound to see on every other Instagram home tour.

This is exactly why I was quite so excited to see it featured in Rocco's studio. And paired with the effortlessly distressed walls, YSL ash-trays, and several of the artist's beautiful original works, the piece looks right at home. But, with parents like Madonna and Guy Ritchie, it should come as no surprise that Rocco has no problem spotting a design icon when he sees one.

What Is the Spaghetti Chair?

A key silhouette in late 20th-century design, the Spaghetti Chair is a worthy addition to this cooler-than-cool artist's studio, and I'll explain to you exactly why.

Blink, and you might miss it — the chair pops up in the quick Instagram tour, grouped in with what Rocco describes as 'some nice old furniture'; an apt title if ever there was one. The full steel model featured in this tour takes the form of a relaxed, low-slung armchair, with the characteristic 'spaghetti' strings wrapping across the seat and back. Arguably one of the coolest pieces of chrome decor I've seen in a while.

And while to the 2026 eye, this chair may strike you as relatively unsurprising, with plenty of similar designs found across the high street right now, back in 1979, this was far from the case.

Before designing one of the most iconic furniture pieces in the history of design, Giandomenico Belotti studied architecture at the University of Venice, laying a strong foundation upon which to explore the relationship between structural validity and beauty. This idea is at the core of what came to be his most famed design. After his studies, Giandomenico began his career working in research, restoration, city planning, and industrial design.

After years of working in and around the area of Bergamo, in 1979, Giandomenico began the collaboration that would go on to shape his legacy. Alias, a Bergamo-based company founded by Enrico Baleri and Marilisa Decimo, was developed with the goal of pushing the boundaries of design. And, as one of the brand's first projects, Giandomenico's Spaghetti Chair set the tone for the future of the company, cementing its position as a hub for young creatives and innovative design.

The original design was striking in its simplicity. The accent chair's silhouette is minimalistic, with a sharp-edged, exposed stainless steel skeleton cloaked solely by the sweeping lines of the PVC tube strips, wrapping across the metal bones to form the chair's supportive layer. It's this combination of relative simplicity, with traditional Italian craftsmanship, and innovative, modern design, that quickly made the Spaghetti Chair a sensation. So much so that it is part of the permanent collection at the MoMA in New York, as well as several other iconic galleries and museums, like the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein and the Triennale di Milano.

Giandomenico went on to design several further iterations of the concept for Alias, including the spaghetti stool, the more petite Gemini model, and the armchair featured in Rocco's studio.

Now, onto Kendall Jenner's minimalist chic gift wrap. This is exactly the kind of wrapping aesthetic I would use for the gifts under my family tree. If you ask me, it's clean, classic, and unfailingly charming.

To channel Kendall with your gift wrap, you'll need a roll of simple brown paper. This Triplast Brown ECO Paper is Amazon's Choice, and available in plenty of dimensions to fit your presents like a glove.

Tying the presents together is a trio of red thread that looks slightly thicker than your regular sewing twine. This Everlasto Solid 'Beautiful Bakers Twine' in burgundy is the closest thing I've found. With this look, I recommend using the twine to wrap around twice or thrice, depending on how many threads you'd like at the top. You can then gently spread each thread apart and secure it with a knot.

Neatly tucked under each gift is a cutting from what I presume to be a Christmas tree. This is a great way to tie the look together. And bonus points if you use clippings from a fragrant Christmas tree for a perfumed finishing touch.

It's no wonder I'm suddenly dreaming of kitschy Christmas. It's not like kitschy Christmas decor has ever really gone out of style, more so that we have become accustomed to celebrity holiday decor edging towards the overtly over-the-top and unattainable, or the distinct opposite, with an ultra minimalistic look. So, I find it rather refreshing to see a celebrity home sporting the cozy, kitschy, somewhat wacky Christmas decorating ideas I grew up with.

The best part? It looks fabulous, of course (it's Selena Gomez we're talking about here). There is just enough tinsel mixed with tradition, and playful meets polished to make this setup feel as stylish as it is fun. Is it too late to buy a few more kitsch baubles for the tree? Hey, it's not Christmas yet!

So what makes Selena and Benny's colorful, Christmas tree decor so endearing and not at all tacky? A lot of it has to do with the honest personality present within the spread. The baubles sport motifs of all of the couple's favorite foods, and the tinsel and the bejeweled tree skirt nod to Selena's glamorous style. Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's Christmas decor tour may have finally made a true Ktischy Christmas convert out of me. However, I know it still might not be everyone's style. If you are looking for some last-minute, more traditional holiday decor ideas, then perhaps Victoria Beckham's 'lazy' Christmas tree is more your speed.

You don't need to be a die-hard fan of Netflix hit series Emily in Paris to feel the tourism-shaking impact that the comedy drama is having on the cities graced by it. First, it was the French capital, of course, but from this week, as Emily in Paris Season 5 begins, Rome offers itself as a backdrop to Emily Cooper (Lily Collins)'s latest adventures as the head of Agence Grateau Rome and her ongoing liaison with charming Italian love interest and cashmere entrepreneur Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini).

Just a few seconds into Emily in Paris Season 5 official trailer, go-getter marketing executive Emily Cooper is captured sprinting and shouting to catch a bus — Roman style — under some spectacularly ornate marble and travertine arches. It's her first day at the helm of the Rome office of Agence Grateau, she tells her flame, Marcello, right before leaving his house. But who would have thought Emily's new desk would be found inside one of the most architecturally striking buildings of Rome, and a very cinematic one, too?

The golden leaf-decorated entrance where we see her ring the Agence Grateau bell only a few instants later is that of Piazza Mincio's famed Palazzo Senza Nome ("Palace Without a Name"), one of some 26 edifices and 17 villas composing 20th-century architect Gino Coppedè's fairytale-like namesake residential district.

Hidden away in the affluent northern side of the city, Quartiere Coppedè and its esoteric Fontana delle Rane — which serves as the heart of Piazza Mincio — have appeared in cult horror films by Dario Argento and Gregory Peck, as well as featuring in Ridley Scott's more recent drama film House of Gucci (2021).

Merging Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Baroque, Gothic, Medieval, Ancient Green, Roman, and even Assyrian-Babylonian influences into a mesmerizing visual tapestry, Il Palazzo Senza Nome is as famous as it remains fundamentally a mystery to most. Just the last time I was in the Italian capital, a family member of mine who lives nearby went on to describe the triumph of intricate frescoes, elaborate plasterwork, vibrant mosaics, and sinuous cast iron that's rumored to define its decor.

While the secrecy imbuing this exclusive Roman location means it's impossible to confirm it just yet, the office life scenes hinted at in the Emily in Paris Season 5 teaser might have already given us a sneak peek at it (or another palace that needs to be seen!).

3. Gigi Rigolatto Roma at Orient Express La Minerva, Pigna District

What can I say, I know a standout Roman rooftop when I see one, and that of the five-star luxury hotel Orient Express La Minerva's in-house restaurant and bar, Gigi Rigolatto Roma, certainly didn't go unobserved when I caught a glimpse of it in a golden-hour scene included in the Emily in Paris Season 5 trailer (spoiler: it was the balcony circular detailing and the vaguely Dior patterned fabric of the cushions that gave it away for me).

Like the rest of this spectacular stay, nestled a stone's throw from the Pantheon, Gigi Rigolatto Roma is the work of Parisian-Mexican architectural designer Hugo Toro, whose sophisticatedly layered, warm touch — marble statues, chocolatey, lacquered cabinetry, restored frescoes, and one-off collectibles — can be felt throughout the hotel, including on its Riviera-inspired panoramic rooftop.

A celebration of Italy's indulgent cult of hospitality, this recently revamped destination, dating from 1811, allows you to revel in a seafood-rich menu while taking in unforgettable views of the majestic Vittoriano and St. Peter's Basilica and enjoying the city's burning sunsets at their best.

4. Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, EUR District

The trait d'union between Emily in Paris Season 5 and world-leading Roman fashion, accessories, and jewelry brand Fendi is not something Netflix has in any way wanted to hide. Already in the teaser, we see Lily Collins and Eugenio Franceschini's Marcello awkwardly sharing a kiss inside the house's hyper-central Palazzo Fendi flagship, located near the epicenter of high-end retail, Via dei Condotti, at Largo Carlo Goldoni 420.

But the dialogue continues to unfold throughout the season, whether through hidden-in-plain-sight Fendi Home set design additions or overt visits to some of the Rome landmarks the Fendi family has taken over and reinvented into multifunctional, premium cultural destinations over the last couple of decades.

Among those filmed in the show stands out the dramatic Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana (shown above), a Fascist-era building originally commissioned by Mussolini for the 1942 World Fair, now serving as the headquarters for the luxury brand. People driving into Rome from the airport might have spotted it before, but trust me when I say its staggering arches and statues are a surreal vision like no other.

In a bold fusion of old and new, its upper floors have been converted into sleekly furnished, minimalist offices and design studios, while downstairs, Fendi's legacy of craftsmanship takes center stage in temporary exhibitions juxtaposing the brand's creations with artworks from groundbreaking talents, visitable free of charge. The same occurs at the Alda Fendi-established, Jean Nouvel-designed Rhinoceros, a 25-unit experimental aparthotel, gallery, and restaurant where 17th-century sprezzatura and pure contemporary genius meet.

Nothing screams Rome more than a gita fuori porta ("trip out of town"), and anyone who has watched practically any movie deserving of attention set in the Italian capital — starting from Fellini's La Dolce Vita — knows a day at the beach in Ostia, Fregene, and Fiumicino is what completes it. Colorful Christmas lights can seem, well, tacky, and for many, the image of their multicolored LED glow can feel like something we left in the past for good reason. But Poppy Delevingne and Sophie Ellis-Bextor are both using their Christmas trees this year to argue otherwise.

Both celebs have opted for a colorful string of lights over white this December, and they are not the only ones. ‘Vintage’ or nostalgic Christmas decor trends have been everywhere online. It should be unsurprising that this time of year has people looking back to childhood memories as an inspiration for decor.

Within the trend, colorful lights have their own variations, and there might even be ways to make them work that avoid the unsettling neon-blue glow that puts so many people off.

“Whether it's the Ralph Lauren Christmas trend, the retro 90s, or a more traditional, even gothic glamor, there's a sense of comfort in these ideas,” says Livingetc’s editor, Hugh Metcalf. “I think that it's the same for colorful Christmas tree lights, too. They're so reminiscent of childhood, and a take on Christmas decorating that isn't trying too hard to be chic.”

This feeling comes across in Sophie’s mix of warm-white and colorful lights that emit a cozy glow that make even me, a noughties baby, nostalgic for 90s. Colorful tinsel, strings of beads and over-sized Santa-head baubles all add to that so-much-it-kind-of-works feeling that tacky nostalgia often brings out in us.

Poppy’s tree is a little more modern and pared back, with fewer baubles and enough space for a great tree shape to show itself off.

However, Hugh has a preference and believes Sophie’s tree is a better example of how to do this trend right. He explains, “I still think blue lighting is a cardinal sin, even at Christmas — Poppy's would be so much better without that background blue glow that feels weirdly digital and makes the room feel cold.”

Sophie, who released a Christmas song '(Christmas) Time' this year, avoids this effect by mixing a string of warm lights in with her colorful ones. Hugh also notes, “she's committing to the look with the tinsel garlands and whimsical decorations, without pushing it too far and overcrowding the tree. It's a bold look, but it's well executed in this instance.”

And today, I followed in those footsteps to sneak a preview of the brand's latest collaboration with Goodhood, launching Matcha Latte Incense Cones.

Within home fragrance, I've been on my incense droplets kick of late. So, when news of this fashionably late collaboration reached me, I decided it was a must to inspect. And let me tell you, while it might be one of the last perfuming collaborations to hit the interiors space, it certainly made an entrance.

Let's talk about why this limited edition drop is worth looking out for and how it makes for an aromatic foray into the world of matcha — that is, if you're not yet as in love with the earthy green tea as the rest of us.

Matcha has been the word (and drink) on everyone's lips this year. From matcha green having an influence on design to the rise of matcha-inspired cafes, you can't escape this beautiful tea that's made its way from Japanese tea ceremonies into hot pop culture.

So I tend to be a little picky with my fragrances and approach socially inspired launches with a lens of question. And unsurprisingly, this collaboration between Blank Street and Goodhood delivered matcha latte pressed into little cones that weave the scent of this popular cafe order through your home.

When you first open the tin, you'll be hit with woody notes that some Livingetc team members compare to ropes of liquorice. But don't be fooled by its cold throw, for when you light a cone, you'll no doubt be greeted by the familiar fragrance of a freshly whisked matcha.

It's not a sugared-up, overtly gourmand fragrance by any means. Which, to me, speaks to authenticity in its crafting. So if you're looking for a solid sweet matcha scent, this is not the drop for you.

But if you do prefer a more mature matcha fragrance, I recommend getting your hands on one of the 500 tins available in this limited edition launch. And on the off chance that you don't, let me leave you with some alternative matcha-inspired fragrances that will hold you over until the next collaboration worth its hype.

Since it's that time of year when fragrance plays a major role in the ambiance of a space, my advice is to embrace versatile scents like matcha in personal spaces, while making your home smell like Christmas in your hosting zones. Following on from predictions by almost every paint and interiors brand for what will be 2026’s color of the year, online marketplace Etsy is the latest to throw its hat into the ring. And, for the first time ever, it has also named a texture set to define the feel of the upcoming year.

Reflecting our collective move away from polished perfection and towards design that acknowledges and celebrates the wear and tear of characterful home interiors, Etsy’s predictions are perfect for those looking to add some vividity into their homes while still maintaining a comforting, nostalgic style.

The chosen color, Patina Blue, is a reflection of continually embracing things as they age and change — the sense of character that only comes with time. And the texture of the year, Washed Linen, follows a similar thread of incorporating liveability and comfort into design. So, here's what you need to know to get the look in your home.

Etsy’s Color of the Year 2026: Patina Blue

The color Patina Blue is inspired by the blue-green layer that appears on metals like copper, bronze, and brass when exposed to oxygen. And while the color is perhaps most synonymous with the Statue of Liberty, Etsy's color leans slightly more towards the bluer side of the spectrum, embracing a more teal tone.

Decorating with teal can often feel somewhat traditional, but the antique twist incorporates more brightness and character through its strong green undertones. The versatility of this color means it is a great choice for a range of different interior styles.

Livingetc's design writer Olivia Wolfe explains: “It's an earth tone with more edge. There is a deep connection to nature, both in the chemical process of its namesake and the deep ocean hues it resembles." And, as for why it's a color trend for 2026: "It would fit beautifully into a Space Age-inspired interior or next to futuristic, experimental materials like chrome and brushed aluminium."

“It's not the same 2010s teal coming to haunt you," she adds. "It's elevated and refined, with deeper undertones that envelop a space with both mystery and comfort.”

To incorporate Patina Blue into your home, Olivia recommends paring it with “other greens for a grounding environment, or with electric, Ultra Azure blues for an alluring, color-drenched moment.”

Etsy’s Texture of the Year 2026: Washed Linen

In a similar vein to the color pick, Etsy's prediction for the texture of the year is also a choice that embraces wear and doesn't rely on a polished, brand-new-looking appearance to look great in our interiors.

Washed Linen is traditional linen’s more relaxed and softer sister. This texture allows for comfort and flexibility that works so well when creating homely spaces. It embraces a softer side of interiors, says Etsy, and carries an effortless effect. It has the versatility to work all around the house, whether that’s as bedding or even in the dining room as napkins.

Pantone announced its very first color of the year (a Cerulean Blue, to be specific) back in 2000 as a way to celebrate the new millennium. The buzz around the announcement skyrocketed, however, and it was quickly decided to carry on the tradition every year. Since then, paint and design brands have joined in, revealing their own predictions of what 'color of the year' means, as a way to engage, inspire, and predict the palettes that will shape the following 12 months.

As such, these announcements are a great way to gauge the color trends of years past and question how those design habits will translate moving forward. So, as 2025 draws to a close, what do we have in store? Livingetc's Design Lab interior stylist, Iokasti Sotirakopoulou, says, "I see this year's color choices as a shift toward richness, depth, and tactility, with a warmth that runs through the entire palette, from earthy minerals and ripe fruit tones to those tailored, suiting-inspired neutrals."

They're expressive but not loud; dramatic, but still comforting, adding atmosphere rather than noise when translated into interiors. On the one hand, rich, oxblood (almost brown) burgundies have found their footing in contemporary interiors, as well as aubergines and moody, dark teals. But there is also space being made for warmer caramel browns that lean into ochre yellows and oranges. Livingetc's Design Lab interior stylist, Miaad Latoof, adds, "There's a craving for spaces that offer warmth and stability, especially in our fast-paced lives. These colors create a more immersive atmosphere, giving a home a real sense of intention and coherence."

We're decorating with colors that have soul, says Iokasti. "Shades that make a room feel dressed, collected, and just a little more emotionally charged." To prove the point, here are all the important color of the year announcements that have been made for 2026 so far.

Pantone: Cloud Dancer

I know, I know, after all of that talk of deep, rich colors, Pantone has announced Cloud Dancer as its color of the year for 2026. While shocking, it actually works really well with the mood of the upcoming year.

Pantone describes Cloud Dancer as an ethereal hue, serving as a symbol of "calming influence in a frenetic society rediscovering the value of measured consideration and quiet reflection." In a world filled with color, chaos, and creativity, having a blank (yet dependable) canvas to work from is essential.

"Cloud Dancer quiets the mind, encouraging true relaxation and focus that allows the mind to wander, and creativity to breathe, making room for innovation," says the Pantone team.

It's far from the saturated reds we've come to love in 2025, but there's a solid defence for Pantone's Cloud Dancer — we always need a color that lets those around it breathe.

Little Greene: Adventurer

Little Greene's color of the year was one of the first claims of aubergine-burgundy. Adventurer is rich, yet muted; striking, yet familiar. It's exactly the kind of color we are all reaching for in our interiors right now.

"People are leaning towards low-chroma and saturated tones because they instantly make a space feel grounded and personal, Miaad Latoof explains. "It has become a design tool — they have a naturally cocooning quality, allowing them to define volume and atmosphere rather than act as a backdrop."

Benjamin Moore: Silhouette

Benjamin Moore's color of the year leaned toward the neutral side with Silhouette — a dark gray color that has strong brown undertones. The charcoal gray base add depth to a neutral that can pair with a plethora of colors, and the brown tones bring a warmth that is perfectly in stride with 2026 interior design trends.

Silhouette shows you shouldn't be afraid of darker, relaxed colors in your interiors. "The depth of darker, yet subtle hues also enhances architectural features, absorbing light in a controlled way and creating spaces with clear intent," says Miaad.

Graham & Brown: Divine Damson

Graham & Brown's Diving Damson has become one of my favorite colors of this year. It takes the popular aubergine-burgundy color but gives it slightly more depth.

In certain lights, this shade can come across as a warm, inviting red, while in darker rooms, the dark undertones really stand out. Plus, Graham & Brown have created a wallpaper and design of the year to pair alongside Divine Damson.

Glidden: Warm Mahogany

Though not available in the UK, there's still a lot to learn from Glidden's color of the year for 2026: a cozy, timeless red called Warm Mahogany that "adapts to the purpose and mood of any space," proving that bolder reds work in the world of neutrals. A mix of both statement-making and subtlety, the 2026 color of the year from Glidden is as functional as it is fashionable.

The USA-based brand describes Warm Mahogany as a color with "heritage that takes the role of main character or supporting star in places that crave connection, rest, and play." The brand recommends pairing Warm Mahogany with earthy, natural materials and deep, bold colors for a space that's both relaxed and modern.

BlueStar: Purple Violet

Even appliance brands have jumped in on the announcements. Bluestar Cooking's color of the year is one of today's most surprisingly popular colors: purple. I recently spoke to interior designers who shared that purple was one of the best colors to paint your dining room, but now it looks like this can be translated to cooking spaces as well.

this choice reflects a growing shift toward richness, warmth, and grounded bold design in the home.

Mylands: Burlington Arcade

I must admit, teal was one of Livingetc's most popular predictions when we discussed it in-house. Though reds and purples took the lead, Mylands, House of Color, announced Burlington Arcade as its color of the year, and I'm obsessed.

Interestingly, Burlington Arcade is originally influenced by the historic shopping arcade in Central London, and it sits somewhere between green and blue on the color wheel. The brand says they chose this dark teal for its cocooning nature and sense of balance in design — inviting an opportunity to slow down and welcome more calming colors into our homes.

Although Burlington Arcade sits in the cool color spectrum, its complexity of undertones ensures a warm and inviting effect. Rather than cooling a space, it brings an enveloping richness. Mylands says, "It is particularly effective in living rooms, studies, or bedrooms where a sense of comfort is key."

IKEA: Rebel Pink

With the drop of IKEA's new GREJSIMOJS collection, the brand also announced its 2026 Color of the Year — Rebel Pink. Admittedly, it's a bit unexpected, and quite different than the other color of the year announcements so far, but exciting nonetheless.

Rebel Pink is powerful, playful, and brings a bold splash of color into the home, whether used on the wall, as an accent, or in the form of this unique fluffy pink accent chair. This is definitely a color for the maximalists.

Neptune: Saddle

As for Neptune paint, here's where things take a turn for the warmer, orange-brown-beige tones. Neptune announced its Saddle paint color as the color of the year. It's a shade that sits between russet and chocolate; "this medium-toned, rich brown carries a mellow warmth that captures the essence of autumn with quiet confidence," says the brand.

It's a very similar shade to Livingetc's December color crush, Sugar Nut Brown. Basically, this caramel color is the perfect twist on the brown obsession that has taken over interiors in the past couple of years, offering something a little warmer and just as timeless.

Earthborn: Freckle

Eco-friendly paint brand, Earthborn, announced a soft, yet bright and peachy orange as its color of the year for 2026. Again, this isn't the most expected color for the upcoming year, but upon closer review, Freckle reads as an earthy and inviting shade that can be extremely versatile.

Freckle was chosen not only for its visual warmth, but also for its sustainable simplicity, says the brand. Freckle in Earthborn's signature clay paint finish is a naturally occurring clay color and completely free from colorants. So, you can be confident in the fact that this hue will bring a natural-feeling mood to any space, as well as being a trusted eco-paint.

C2: Epernay

For 2026, another US-based brand, C2 Paints, looked to honor the traditional elements of design that shape how we live today. From the intricate architectural ornamentation to the allure of natural materials, Philippa Radon, interior designer and C2 color specialist, says, "we're inspired by a return to design that nourishes the soul — rich with depth, purpose, and beauty." Enter C2's color of the year, Epernay.

Named after the French village known for its rolling vineyards and limestone architecture, Epernay "channels the warmth of sunlit stone"; it's a refined, earthy soft ochre with hushed, beige undertones.

Epernay has ties to European influences, and "This historic hue helps us retell the wondrous stories woven through history via the inseparable threads of color, art, furnishings, and nature. It reminds us to appreciate the personal touches that make a home uniquely ours — and to live with reverence for the stories we’re creating every day," says Philipa.

Hopefully, this list has offered some guidance on what paint color trends and palettes to plan as we enter into an exciting new year of color, style, and design.

Along with the preview of a slightly peculiar, but seriously playful new collection that's due to drop in February, IKEA also snuck in one other small announcement: 'IKEA is also excited to announce its 2026 Color of the Year — Rebel Pink! It's powerful, playful, and brings a bold splash of color into the home.'

Seen in the furry pink chair cover of IKEA's GREJSIMOJS collection, it's a soft, cotton-candy, bubblegum shade that feels fun and fresh. I'm not sure how "rebellious" I find it — but perhaps, considering Pantone's Color of the Year this year is white, it really is rebelling. "It doesn’t care about the dominance of pinks we’ve seen recently (millennial pink, Barbie pink, Y2K hot pink…)," Livingetc's color expert Amy Moorea Wong tells me. "And it certainly doesn’t care about the calmer, zen tones that other brands have introduced for 2026."

Instead, it taps into nostalgia. "It's like seeing an old friend again (weren’t we painting our childhood bedrooms in this color in the 90s?)," adds Amy. "It’s real pink-pink — not a toned-down half-iteration. This is a child’s crayon pink, making us feel youthful and unabashed in our color choice. It’s a hue for those who care only about the colors they instinctually crave."

So, do I see this pink dominating color trends in 2026? Not particularly. "It’s a challenge to trends in general — who wants to follow the rules? — and to the ‘grown up’ earthy neutrals and muted tones that have taken over contemporary decorating palettes," says Amy. "It’s an alternate path, one that leads to a home that’s fun, expressive, and personal."

"Is it completely wild and subversive?" she poses. "No, it’s fairly versatile, and we’ve been on the pink bandwagon for a while. But it is a noted point of difference, which is what I’m here for (and what our homes probably need more of)." From this broad cultural picture, we then draw everything down into a single color, and from there into the fine details within that color. Every nuance is considered and tuned so that the final choice aligns fully with the emotional and cultural message for the year ahead. Our team spans multiple geographies and cultures, each with its own areas of specialization, adding richness and perspective to this process.

Color stories today are rooted in what is happening in the world and how we are collectively feeling. Emotion plays a central role. When I work with Pantone, the emotional and psychological dimension of a color is just as critical as how it functions in design.

Both color psychology and story elements must align. We look carefully at how a color can hold meaning, offer support, or express a mood, while also considering how it lives within materials, spaces, and products. It is always a marriage of emotional resonance and design relevance, and this balance is what gives a color true longevity and purpose.

Christmas trees have always been a symbol of family tradition and holiday cheer, but a dedicated Netflix special for curating the perfect holiday aesthetic is the kind of next-level extra you can only expect in the internet-obsessed 2025 era. I respect the hustle. I must admit, though, the first few minutes of Meghan Markle's new Christmas special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, felt a little too... traditional. What I really wanted was to see her show off.

I'm relatively new to the show and her design personality in general. And while the opening scenes of her skipping through a Christmas tree farm and the general earnestness throughout each episode are a bit to get used to, it's wholesome, full of beauty, and I left with some pretty solid Christmas decorating ideas (even though, yes, they were shared only a few minutes in).

In line with what I've gathered about Meghan's sense of style, her tree is pretty classic; a blend of elevated traditional design and family memories. Her way of decorating a Christmas tree is nothing out of the ordinary (lights strung towards the back, baubles in front), but what I like is that it confirms the trusted recipe, making it easy to recreate yourself. Though I was able to steal a few new tips and tricks from her.

So what lessons exactly did I take from Meghan's Christmas special? Well, the type of Christmas tree to choose was the first big thing. While not everyone can enjoy the experience of going to a Christmas tree farm to source a live tree, even if you opt for a faux one, Meghan shares that an eight to nine-foot tree is the ideal height. Full and fluffy branches with a perfectly formed shape, of course.

Once back at the house, Meghan dives into the types of ornaments she chooses and how to expertly trim the tree. Start by stringing your twinkle lights (warm and white) around the back of the tree, and end with a light wrapping on the outer part of the branches. This way, the lights fill the entire space and look more dynamic, she explains.

As for ornaments, despite Meghan's insistence on tradition, she doesn't go for anything green and red. Instead, her tree is filled with gold ornaments with weathered finishes and cozy motifs (think pinecones, acorns, etc.). I even spotted a few embossed gold foil ornaments, which I've been obsessed with lately — they're the perfect last-minute Christmas DIY.

And her one true rule? Hang each ornament near a light so they can sparkle and shine. Really, that's all there is to it. The Meghan Markle way is about keeping things simple yet elevated, classic, and full of tradition.

Though the With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration isn't a show I would throw on for exciting entertainment purposes, it's a lovely, festive scene to have in the background. And if you need help with the basics of Christmas decorating, Meghan has some great tips to share.

It looks like even the celebrity world is going a bit more subtle this year when it comes to holiday decor — just take Victoria Beckham's lazy Christmas tree, for example. It's minimal effort-meets-chic.

If you're anything like me — chronically on Pinterest and someone who starts planning how you're going to decorate your tree in July — you might have noticed something about some of the Christmas trees in the White House this year.

Yes, every year the White House unveils its Christmas trees at the start of December, traditionally orchestrated by the First Lady. In Donald Trump's time in office, it's fair to say Melania has come under scrutiny for her choices — does anyone remember the blood red Christmas tree forest that looked like something out of a horror movie?

But among the somewhat dubious Christmas decorating ideas on display across the many rooms of the White House this year (the blue butterflies exploding out of the tree in the Red Room is a particularly jarring color palette), I spotted something a little familiar in another space.

The trees in the Cross Hall, pictured, are reminiscent of a now iconic Christmas tree, that's been pinned to my decorating board for a good few years now. Having been pinned over 45,000 times (and that's just one version of it), it's one of those designs that's been often replicated on social media, but never quite as brilliantly as the original.

The original tree, with its clusters of red decorations and branch candles, was actually in the lobby of the NoMad Hotel in London back in 2022, but quickly became a bit of an online phenomenon for its clustered approach to decorations and romantic Christmas lighting hack of placing bunches of tree candles together.

Melania's trees for the Cross Hall, though not executed exactly the same, do show some signs that this may have been the inspiration, with deep red decorations clustered on the tree, and candles placed a little more sporadically around. Listen, I'm not saying it's a good recreation, and it's definitely not a carbon copy, but it was the first thing I thought of when I first saw this particular White House Christmas tree idea for this year.

The NoMad tree is still, in my mind, a thing of beauty, but there are perhaps a few lessons in the Trumps' take on it to learn from if you want to do something similar, without completely recreating it.

I like, for example, on Melania's Christmas trees that there's more variety of texture and shape than the original one, introducing bows and florals into the clusters. However, the way they're applied to the tree feels too random, and not clustered enough. Looking at the two trees flanking the doors of the Cross Hall, I can't quite figure out the rhyme or reason to it. While the original tree wasn't symmetrical, it felt like it had purpose in the positions of the ornaments in a way that these trees don't.

The same is true of the application of the branch candles. For a different take, I like that they're less clustered than the original, but I'm also slightly dubious about the haphazard placement.

There's something we're noticing a lot in how people are decorating their trees this year — decorations are feeling a little more sparse, a little more relaxed in how they're applied. Just take a look at Victoria Beckham's Christmas tree if you don't believe me.

"Wishing you a day of love, connection, and beautiful food," renowned designer Kelly Wearstler captioned an Instagram post, sharing her Thanksgiving table setting. And she wasn't lying. While we may not celebrate Thanksgiving here in the UK, that shouldn't stop us from stealing a bit of design inspiration for our upcoming Christmas tables from the occasion. And the star of Kelly's table? Beautiful food — raw white radishes, specifically.

"It’s proof that vegetables can be just as chic as any floral arrangement," Iokasti Sotirakopoulou, stylist for Livingetc's Design Lab, tells me. "What really gets me excited about this look is how food becomes part of the decor. The textures, the shapes, the earthiness — it all adds such natural richness. It’s styling, but it’s also storytelling."

And why is it that flowers are always the first thing we reach for when it comes to our Christmas table decor ideas? There is just as much beauty, color, texture, and variety to be found in fruit and vegetable harvests. And white radish? Well, you can order it fresh from Amazon for just £3.75. The trick to this look is abundance — something Kelly applied by stacking them on plates, piling them up around candle holders, and even styling them as individual place settings.

And then, of course, it's how you make it feel intentional. The rest of the look that feeds (pardon the pun) into the story you're trying to tell. And storytelling is a big part of table setting trends these days.

"I love that she’s kept the white tablecloth as a clean backdrop," adds Iokasti. "It lets the vegetables do all the talking while the candlelight adds that soft, glowing mood in the center — the kind that instantly makes a gathering feel intimate."

"There’s something magical about a table that marries flavor and design like this," she continues. "It doesn’t just look beautiful; it elevates the entire dining experience. The textures of the food, the colors, the scents — everything works together to create a moment that feels immersive and sensory in the best way."

So next time you're strolling the aisles of the supermarket, stop in the fresh produce section for a moment longer and really look at what you see — the character of squash, the varying colors in a bunch of grapes, all the shapes and sizes and shades of tomatoes. Because the best table centerpiece ideas don't have to be flowers.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this (not really, though), but when it comes to throwing a good party, I'm always going to look to the Kardashians for some inspiration. Whether you're a fan or a hater, it's hard to ignore the fact that for this family, hosting is like a full-time occupation, and well, they certainly know how to do it well.

Every year, the Kardashians will offer a glimpse of their holiday decorating on Thanksgiving and even Christmas. So it's become a bit of an annual tradition to seek out their social posts to see what these entertaining tastemakers (or, maybe, Hollywood's best party planners) are vibing with this year.

As Miaad Latoof, a stylist for Design Lab by Livingetc, explains, "When I look at Kourtney Kardashian’s Ralph Lauren Christmas table, what strikes me immediately is the confidence in its simplicity. It’s a pared-back take on classic Ralph Lauren, and for some it might even feel too simple — but that’s precisely where its strength lies. There’s a quiet, quietly-wealthy softness to it, a kind of understated luxury that only works when every detail is considered."

Speaking on the romance and elegance the table setting brings, Miaad continues, "The red florals against polished silver create instant romance, and the white candles keep the palette calm and controlled."

However, Miaad says she's drawn to tables that aren't too loud and instead form a subtle sophistication to them, and well, I couldn't agree more. "The crystal glassware, the silver vessels, the woven chargers — each piece stands confidently on its own. And the teddy-bear plate with the tartan napkin is such a smart, intentional nod to the Ralph Lauren heritage without relying on layers of pattern or theme," she explains. "For me, warmth should come from materiality, not excess. The woven texture, the soft gold rim, the depth of the red against a clean white table cloth — that’s what gives this setting its longevity. It feels enduring because every piece earns its place. That’s the same philosophy behind my own Ralph Lauren–inspired collection: fewer pieces, chosen well, that quietly elevate everything around them."

In the age of social media, decorating a Christmas tree has become a competitive sport. Instead of collected personal baubles adorning a festive centerpiece, to make waves on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, creators are turning to ever more impressive 'installation'-like displays. Novel and creative? For sure, but excessive, also? Definitely.

So, when I saw Victoria Beckham be possibly one of the first celebrities to put up her tree this year, I was surprised by one thing about it — its simplicity. At first, I thought it might be a little lazy, but the more I looked at it, the more I turned the corner. Not lazy, laissez-faire. It's got a sort of easy-going cool to it that those installation-like trees just don't, and a refreshing step back from the one-upmanship in Christmas decorating trends recently.

However, as it turns out, it's no accident. I asked my partner, interior stylist Luke Arthur Wells, what he thought of the tree (as someone who ends up decorating somewhere in the region of 10 Christmas trees every year), and he told me there's definitely a trend towards more natural and nostalgic-looking trees.

"There are two ways to go with Christmas trees right now," he tells me. "Bold and theatrical, or that sort of pared-back look that makes it seem like you haven't tried too hard. And it's the latter that's actually a bit more of a signifier of taste and class."

Sounds easy, right? Well, it is easier, but it still requires the skill of knowing when to stop with your decorating. "Victoria's tree works not because it feels like she's put no effort in, but because it has that sense of restraint, without strictly following a theme. The colors — pinks, purples, golds, and warm tones — feel eclectic enough, and the simple ribbon bows add some variety in shape from the otherwise simple decorations."

However, Luke says that it's fair to admit that Victoria's choice of Christmas tree is doing a lot of heavy lifting in making her Christmas decorating look spectacular. "It's a particularly impressive specimen of what I'd think is a Nordman Fir," he says, "but it also plays into this 'imperfect' aesthetic that we're looking towards this year. It doesn't have a tightly trimmed silhouette, and there's something charming about the longer, spread branches and gappiness of it."

There is, however, one area that Luke says could do with some work. "It does play into the overall look again, but the lights aren't exactly expertly applied," he says. "It's a little gappy, and one of my pet peeves is when people don't run lights around the base level of foliage on a tree," he adds. Victoria, maybe next year, try these Christmas light hacks while you're decorating.

Overall, Luke says the process to dressing a tree with not many ornaments is the same for how to decorate a Christmas tree in general. Plan out your spacing, start with the larger baubles and the 'statement' ornaments first, and make sure you've got plenty of lighting to help make your tree feel fuller.

I love a good collab, and especially so when it feels authentic and it looks good. When I heard news of fragrance house Earl of East and GAIL's bakery joining forces to design a candle line, I was hoping that this range was going to smell good, too.

"I’ve long been fascinated by the power of scent and how it impacts our decisions and our behaviour," says Roane Rapson, head of food concepts at GAIL's. "So, the thought arose — could we mimic or recreate some of our favourite scents that could be enjoyed at home!"

Had we been able to show the boldly extravagant, lavish interiors of Hotel Faena New York to any of the masters of late 20th-century minimalism, chances are they would have dismissed them as excessive. But, if there is one thing that trailblazing Argentinian hotelier Alan Faena's Big Apple debut shows, it is that, as postwar optimism and stability give way to the uncertainty of the current age, holiday stays can no longer strive to simply accommodate — they have to transport, surprise, and entertain.

Launched on September 9, Hotel Faena has all the credentials to become one of the best hotels in New York, starting from its strategic location. Faena New York — Eccentric Design Goes 'Gatsby'

That Faena New York feels rightly at home in its hosting city doesn't mean that no place on Earth has sculpted its opulent hallways other than the Big Apple itself and its old-school glamour — the opposite.

With all public spaces imagined to impress by London-based Australian designer Peter Mikic, and more pared-back, yet equally indulgent rooms and suites, this NYC dream of a hotel is where global creative expression and eccentricity meet Great Gatsby-style flair.

From the moment travelers set foot in the hotel's Cathedral lobby, which provides the stage for Argentine artist Diego Gravinese's surreal, multi-wall-wide creation painting Ascension, what awaits guests during their sojourn is immediately laid out before them.

Pulling Back "the Red-Velvet Curtain" on Inspired Travel

A retro-fueled salon punctuated by leopard banquettes, softly glowing lamps, and luxurious chandeliers, with two Art Deco-infused bars traveling visitors back in time on either side, Faena New York's Living Room is where live entertainment and sensory indulgence are at. Seating up to 134 guests for either daytime leisure or music-led evening cocktails, it has an elegant-chic dress code, evocative silver and gold leaf murals capturing the city's legendary landmarks as vehicles of its myth across the world, a 274-square-meter side terrace, and even chicer decor. That's right, because whether you like it or not, maximalism is back in vogue.

Connecting the Living Room to Faena New York's in-house speakeasy, fittingly named El Secreto, and La Cava, an elevated wine cellar recreating the splendor of its namesake at Buenos Aires's Faena District, is a near-50-meter gallery animated by whimsical works like Keith Haring's Montreaux Jazz Festival. El Secreto itself, meanwhile, shines with a light of its own thanks to Chilean designer and artist Sebastian Errazuriz's deconstructed disco ball — a multifaceted mirrored sculpture that, placed in the heart of the space, feels "dazzling and dizzying, but at the same time, deeply intimate and precious in a way that we miss so much," he recounted.

Possibly the most theatrical of all environments of Faena New York, acclaimed Argentine chef and restaurateur Francis Mallmann's eatery La Boca — named after the high Italian-concentration barrio he calls home and nestled on the ground floor — pairs soulful barbecued feasts celebrating the district's melting pot of cultures with red velvet drapery and seats, Edgardo Giménez's spirited monkey (or panther) murals, textural copper, bronze, and bamboo curtains by Colombian artist Jorge Lizarazo, and bespoke sculptural chandeliers by the late Italian artist Alberto Garutti.

Like many of the most captivating corners of this new NYC icon, La Boca, too, heightens suspense and anticipation, leading guests to its entrance through an almost disorienting or, better, intoxicating tunnel of lights, eye-catching shapes, and reflections.

With the group's cultural non-profit Faena Art behind the curation of a rotating series of installations set to alternate within the premises of the hotel, the 3,500-plus-square-meter Tierra Santa Healing House spa taking the lead as one of the city's largest wellness centers yet, and the Faena Theater scheduled to open early next year to bring "stunning cirque cabarets, Grammy-winning musicians, and red-hot tango shows" to the talked-about address, Faena New York is on a case to "build a strong community that goes beyond our walls," said its founder.

It is a mission that Faena has largely accomplished already, as the hotel's seductive design vision is tempting globetrotters all over the world.

It's not every Thursday night that the Livingetc team is invited to attend the crowning of The World's 50 Best Hotels, and so how could we decline the invitation?

Selected by a panel of over 800 anonymous judges between seasoned hoteliers, travel journalists, and discerning globetrotters, each invited to vote for their top seven sojourns from the past two years in order of preference, the resulting list strives to capture "the creativity, sustainability, and heartfelt hospitality that define travel today," BBC presenter Amol Rajan, who hosted the awards ceremony, explained at the start of the evening, which was held at London's Thames-facing, striking 1 Old Billingsgate Market.

Each of the best hotels spotlighted on this occasion, he stressed, was put forward impartially by the voting Academy, who valued their unique contribution to the industry based on elements such as architecture and interior design, F&B excellence, cultural programming, bespoke experiences, environmental efforts, and commitment to the local community. Although no strict criteria defined the voting, besides their genuine enthusiasm for their favorite properties.

To bring home the destination and special awards of this year's edition — the first one to celebrate the establishments ranked between 51 and 100 — were Kangaroo Island's Southern Ocean Lodge in Australia (59, American Express Travel One To Watch Award 2025), South Africa's Singita Kruger National Park (40, Johnnie Walker Art of Design Award), Soneva Fushi in the Maldives (28, SeiBellissimi Art of Hospitality Award 2025), Four Seasons, which won the Ferrari Trento Most Admired Hotel Group Award 2025, Bali's Desa Potato Head (18, Eco Hotel Award 2025), and Mandarin Oriental Qianmen (14, Nikka Best New Hotel Award 2025).

Marrakech's Royal Mansour (13) obtained both the Best Hotel in Africa title and the WhistlePig Highest Climber Award 2025, Capella Sydney (12) was named Best Hotel in Oceania 2025, Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Palace (11) got both the Lavazza Highest New Entry Award 2025 and the Best Hotel in South America 2025 accolade, Chablé Yucatán became the Best Hotel in North America for 2025, and Dubai's Atlantis The Royal (6) gained the Lost Explorer Best Beach Hotel as well as the Best Hotel in the Middle East awards. The inaugural property of the Aman group's sister brand, Janu, this 122-room-and-suite stay retains the giant's air of exclusivity while offering a fresher, younger, and — for lack of a better word — more hipster alternative to its lavish hotels. The brainchild of award-winning interior architect Jean-Michel Gathy, whose work breathes an Asian-inspired, storied flair into some of the most exquisitely contemporary destinations around the world (see one of the world's best spas, The Chedi Andermatt), Janu Tokyo caught our eye for its vast, cinematically-designed F&B offering (counting eight destinations in total), its subtle reworking of Japanese heritage, the spectacular wellness facilities, and bookable arts and crafts workshops, guided tours, and events.

For the Architecture-Savvy, Discerning Globetrotter — 32. The Emory. London, UK

The British capital didn't fall short on recognition during Thursday night's ceremony, with four of the best London hotels, including the legendary Claridge's (16), The Connaught (29), and Raffles London at The OWO (31), all mentioned in the top 50. But if there is one address in the Big Smoke that, for us, steals the show, it is the eclectic, 32-ranked The Emory. Wrapped by a spectacular architectural façade conceived by the late Richard Rogers and Ivan Harbour of RSHP and overlooking the vegetation of Hyde Park, this hotel is a gem awaiting to be discovered, with communal areas realized by trailblazing French designer Rémi Tessier. The city's first all-suite hotel, it boasts 61 individually crafted rooms by celebrated interior architects André Fu, Pierre-Yves Rochon, Alexandra Champalimaud, Rigby & Rigby, and Patricia Urquiola, where desert-hued decor is brought to life by extravagant statement pieces, contrasting surfaces, and collector-worthy artwork. Home to both the three-in-one culinary rollercoaster that is chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten's abc kitchens and one of the best bars in London for glam vibes, in less than two years of activity, The Emory has grown into one of the most sought-after destinations in the British capital. A spontaneous scream of joy took over us as Thursday evening's host Amol Rajan announced Rosewood São Paulo at n. 24. Already mentioned in our in-depth guide to underrated cities for design lovers, the 180-room-and-suite, glassy idyll proves how, in the best examples of contemporary interiors, there is space for both local crafts, history, and innovation to thrive. The work of iconic Paris-based studio STARCK, Rosewood São Paulo reinterprets the country's groundbreaking Modernism tradition to a captivating effect. In the midst of all the fashion and design weeks, autumn brings about another important category of trend forecasting for the interior design world: the 2026 Color of the Year announcements. Benjamin Moore is the latest brand to reveal its shade slated to set the mood for 2026, and it seems the trend cycle is, thankfully, starting to slow.

Yes, the newly crowned shade from Benjamin Moore, Silhouette, is a deep, warm brown with strong gray and purple undertones. And while some Colors of the Year go extreme in their choices, this one is a paint color we can see a lot of people actually using.
