As chosen by our judges, Livingetc editor Pip Rich, Livingetc Editorial Director Sarah Spiteri, designers Alice Temperley, Eva Sonaike and Staffan Tollgard and journalist, broadcaster and tastemaker Pandora Sykes, these are the best lights to fill your home with in 2022.
Ceiling Light - winner: Pill by Empty State
Pill is a capsule-shaped design that combines hand-blown glass with luxurious brass accents. As it is made to order, customers can personalise the drop height, glass colour, metal finish and configuration to create a unique piece for a specific space.
‘I like the fact you can customise it to your own installation and give it individuality,’ says Staffan Tollgård.

Floor Lamp - winner: Orta Floor Lamp by Lights & Lamps
Orta floor lamp, left.
A heavy burnished brass cylinder base balances an elegantly curved antique silver stem, finished off with a perfectly proportioned cone shade.
It has a clear, timeless appeal and is indicative of the way the brand approaches designing, blending function perfectly with form.
‘Lights & Lamps has cornered the market on keenly priced yet well-crafted pieces – I can see its designs fitting into all sorts of decor styles,’ says Pip Rich.

Floor Lamp - Design Icon winner: NATIONAL TRUST FLOOR LAMP BY ANGLEPOISE
This Sage Green finish, based on the archetype of Anglepoise’s Original 1227, is a nod to the work of Europe’s largest conservation charity, with every sale raising funds for the National Trust.
‘Some may describe their look as industrial but I think there is a surprising elegance about the shape,’ says Pandora Sykes.

Table Light - winner: Doric Table Lamp by Heal's
Drawing inspiration from classical architecture, the Doric table lamp by Heal’s is a simple yet standout piece. It gives a contemporary nod to the iconic form of traditional Roman pillars and the architectural bones of the lamp are softened by a white opal glass shade.
‘It is a really cool lamp because of the contrast of materials and I like the play on scale with the oversized version,’ says Eva Sonaike.
