M&S' bedding game has been impeccable of late. Not that I ever really doubt the brand in this department, but this new M&S Pure Linen 190 gsm Bedding Set is an improvement in both style and sleep support.

It's exactly the kind of bedding that elevates your bedscape, with its pretty piping detail. But when it comes to helping you sleep better, what does this actually mean?

Here's a better idea of what you can expect with this linen bedding and how to decide if it's right for you.

So, we asked stylist Luke Arthur Wells, one of Livingetc's contributors, currently compiling our guide to choosing bedding for which he's interviewed plenty of independent experts. How does he feel that a denser linen bedding will perform?

"Linen bedding starts off quite crisp, and softens over time, but that original crispness gives your bed linen a nice structure that looks great," he explains. "A denser linen will likely soften a little more gradually, but retain a little more of that structure. Very soft linens deliver on that 'wrinkled' look, but sometimes it's more than you want. This will likely have a nice in-between texture that feels a bit more expensive."

Compare it to something like Bed Threads flax linen bedding, which is 170 GSM, as the brand says it's the optimum for feeling 'soft and buttery' when you use it straight away. So, yes, this 190 GSM bedding may take a little longer to soften, but might just give you that crisper look with the airiness and moisture-wicking abilities of linen.

Having lived in four London flats in five years, I'm no stranger to the chaos of moving house: palming unwanted books off on friends, questioning whether I really need separate summer and winter duvets, and reluctantly selling furniture that's simply too awkward to haul across the city. Alongside it are equally hardworking designs, including drill-free door hooks, stackable stools that transform into shelving, and a larger foldaway table with its own integrated carry handle.

Because the KOMPISHÄNG collection has only just landed, there aren't any shopper reviews just yet. But with the entire range marked as a limited edition, I wouldn't hang around if this clever little table has caught your eye. Thankfully, it's super affordable, too.

So what do the reviews say? One reviewer says: "They are a bit lower than we expected but we quickly got used to it and the full set is very comfy. Also ideal for pet owners as the fabric is very easy to hoover and hair doesn't get stuck."

The larger sizes of the sofa are modular reviewers say, and don't fix together, but this small size is a one-piece sofa.

But the real design flourish lies in the rectangular legs, where discreet cut-outs allow one stool to perch securely atop the other, transforming the pair into a compact shelving display unit. Now that’s clever.

This is exactly the kind of ingenious multifunctionality the Swedish giant has built its reputation on, proving that, in compact homes, every piece of furniture can, and should, earn its place.

I was recently invited to preview Dunelm's upcoming A/W collection, and when it came to the tableware collection, there was one particular style that caught my eye. It was the Salvage Enamel Serve Bowl, which instantly reminded me of a piece from TOAST that I have at home, thanks to its splattered design and green-y yellow color. Except, instead of being £36, it was £7.

Livingetc has written about the 'splatterware' trend before, about how its rise might have something to do with the return to the polka dot, but done in a more creative, hand-made kind of way. I also think it draws parallels to marbleized patterns, how each is completely unique, imperfect — things we're craving in our homes right now.

Combine the design with enamel, a highly durable metal material that's coated in a glossy layer of melted powdered glass, and you've got yourself near breakable dinnerware. And for just £7, to boot.

Dunelm's design measures 24.9cm around, so it's a fairly comparable size to TOAST's platter, which is 21.5cm wide and 31cm long. The color is also very, very similar (and I can attest to it being a beautiful yellow-y olive). The only real difference is the size of the splatters (which I must admit, I do prefer the scale of TOAST's), and, of course, the price.

While I once considered enamelware to be something you'd only ever use while camping, I've really come around to it in recent years. I even own a Falcon Enamelware set that includes a colander, mixing bowls, and small dishes. It's a classic style — white with a blue rim — and while it may earn some bumps and dings over the years, there's something very rustic-French-country-chic about it.

Let's face it, a truly comfortable sofa bed is a little bit of a unicorn — its dual-function nature often means sacrificing structure and material (and, to be honest, style to some degree) to create a sofa that turns into a bed. Some certainly outclass others, and by testing sofa beds side by side, it's an easy comparison.

That was my plan in evaluating which John Lewis sofa beds are best. However, you'll probably find, like me, that not all John Lewis stores stock models of its sofa beds, so unless you can get into the largest of stores, it's hard to try before you buy. With that in mind, I spent time visiting a few stores to test John Lewis sofas-turned-beds, including the Oxford Street flagship (with helpful demonstrations from the floor staff) to find my favorites.

Though, to be clear, they have to satisfy two criteria: style and comfort. It won't be included in my top picks unless it hits both. Unfortunately, I couldn't find some of my favorite sofa bed designs from John Lewis in stores to try, namely the Innovation Living Cozy Pad Sofa Bed and the Duplet Day Bed, so if you were looking at these two stylish designs, you might still have to pop one of them in your basket and hope for the best (though I can vouch for their style). Otherwise, these are the John Lewis sofa beds I'd actually consider buying.

For clarity, John Lewis not only stocks a range of its own-design sofa beds but also designs by the specialist sofa-bed brand Innovation Living, as well as Swyft and Swoon. I've included my picks from these brands in this list, too.

I've ranked each sofa bed by how it compares to like-for-like sofa beds, too. For example, any sofa bed with a pull-out mattress is undoubtedly more comfortable for sleep (and sitting on) than one that uses the couch cushions for a mattress, but it really depends on what style you like, how easy you want it to be to pull out, and where the sofa bed is being used. A guest bedroom that needs to sleep your elderly parents when they come to visit has different requirements than a teenager who has friends round to crash now and again.

So, these were my favorite John Lewis sofa beds from the selection I tested.

Swyft's Sofa Beds

Best Fold-Down Sofa Bed
My Score: 4/5

My overall favorite was the Model 04 from Swyft's sofa bed range, but I've tested the whole collection of sofa beds from Swyft on offer from John Lewis before, and they all stack up to around the same basic premise, packaged up in different styles.

Swyft's sofa beds are generally all fold-down styles, which use the sofa's seat cushions as the mattress for the sofa bed, but Swyft has managed to get the balance right between sitting comfort and sleeping with its range. The sofas are on the medium-firm side, but with a double layer of foam and pocket springs, it feels comfortable to lie on. As with most sofa beds, I'm still going to recommend a mattress topper, and Swyft actually offers its own ones to fit the sofa beds.

All the Swyft sofa beds disguise their double function pretty well. The Model 04 from John Lewis is great for a mid-century style look, but the newer Model 12 is probably my favorite classic style.

Barbican

Best Mattress Sofa Bed
My Score: 4/5

A sofa bed with a pull-out mattress is generally going to be more comfortable for both sitting and sleeping, as each element can be better considered for the job it has to do, rather than trying to do the best of both worlds.

John Lewis has a few pull-out mattress sofas, but the John Lewis range Barbican sofa bed has sort of triumphed by default. The Slumber isn't comfortable enough to sit on for your living room, and the Camden and Charlotte II's styles are a little too dated for a Livingetc home.

The Barbican, again, has that inoffensive mid-century style that works for a lot of homes. I found it has a softer-feeling seat and a slightly firmer back, but it's high, supportive, and comfortable to sit on. I tried the sofa in the Connie Grey Aquaclean and found the material quite firm and unrelenting — good if you want durability, but less loungey — but the sofa comes in a wider range of fabrics, made to order, including softer chenilles and velvets.

Linear

Best Budget Sofa Bed
My Score: 3/5

I get it, a sofa bed in the £1,500-£2,000 price range isn't for every situation, especially if you're adding it to a kid's room or playroom. Budget sofa beds can be hit or miss, but you can be a little more forgiving with their qualities, within reason.

My pick? John Lewis' Linear sofa bed. It's a fold-down bed that comes in at just under £700 (or a little more if you choose a velvet). It has a very small range of fabric choices, but each of them is stylish.

It's almost a little more futon-y in style, but it feels a little more sprung and full than some of the alternatives I tried. Again, it's not a sofa bed for your living room necessarily, but a good, affordable choice if you need to add an extra spot for guests to your home.

Cubed 140

Best Small Sofa Bed
My Score: 3/5

Lots of John Lewis' sofa beds are small-space friendly, without arms, for example, or in smaller, two-person styles. The smallest, however, is the Innovation Living Cubed 160, and it has enough about its design to be one of my favorites from the range.

It's a bouncy seat, which I don't mind, and a slightly more dorm-room-esque sofa bed style, but it still feels elevated. What sells me on it is the clever design that folds out to a much larger mattress than its initial footprint suggests. It's a little more complicated to fold out than some, but not tricky per se.

One complaint? I found the fabric a little coarse. I'm sure it'll be durable, but it wasn't my favorite feeling if you're thinking of spending many a night sitting on this particular sofa bed.

That said, I'd recommend avoiding the Innovation Living Ripple (unless you're obsessed with its style). The back cushions are softer than the seat (which is quite firm), but the back is quite low, and it's not very deep or well-proportioned for comfort.

Also Worth Considering

These John Lewis sofa beds have a few areas that could be improved, but they might suit your search if you're looking for something specific.

Camber

My Score: 3/5

When it comes to the practical stuff, John Lewis' Camber sofa would have been one of my top picks for John Lewis sofa beds. It's another pull-out design, and though the mattress isn't the thickest or most plush, it's definitely comfortable enough if you layer in a topper into the mix.

I'm in two minds on the style. I don't mind a sofa with more traditional leanings, but it's perhaps a little uninspired. A great chameleon if you don't need a piece that will stand out, but not a design moment. To sit on, it feels well-proportioned — soft and bouncy in a good way, with a generous backrest.

If traditional is your style, I'd skip John Lewis' Charlotte II. I'd suggest that, with its high seat, back, and arms, this sofa bed was designed with an older person in mind. If that suits what you're looking for, then it's a solid choice, but its proportions feel a little off for an everyday home that isn't looking for more accessible seating as a priority.

Slumber

My Score: 3/5

Design-wise, Slumber was the sofa bed in the store I was drawn to first. It's a good-looking, modern sofa, and in the dark blue Ocean colorway, it makes for a striking figure. I tested the pull-out mattress first this time around and was impressed. It ticks the box for comfort for sleeping and good looks.

However, as much as I wanted to, I couldn't get on board with the feel of sitting on it. It's very firm and doesn't feel like a sofa you could have in your living room. As a guest room buy? Absolutely, I'd recommend it.

Are John Lewis Sofa Beds Good Quality? 

My overall verdict? John Lewis' sofa bed category isn't as strong as its sofa range, but it's worth remembering that sofa beds are, by their very nature, a bit of a compromise. I was most impressed by the quality of both Swyft's sofa beds, stocked by the retailer, and its own sofa bed versions of some of its classic sofas. These are generally the more expensive options.

Honestly, H&M Home's tableware collection has only gotten better and better over the last few seasons, largely thanks to its imagery, which looks so editorial and does an amazing job of 'selling the dream'. A little bit bistro, a little bit girly, a little bit sharp and edgy, and even slightly handmade, it's my go-to place to buy trending styles for a really reasonable price.

Design-wise, it holds up against the best tableware brands, even if it's much more on the affordable side, so it'll look just as good on the table as it will styled on the shelf, and you won't be too worried if something gets knocked over during a rambunctious dinner party. H&M also isn't the place I'd go to for classic white dinnerware — instead, it's where you'll find unique glazes, pretty colors, and trending shapes; consider them the conversation starters at the table.

Plates are typically made of porcelain and stoneware, so they're durable and dishwasher-safe; glassware is mostly glass (as opposed to borosilicate glass or crystal); textiles are mostly cotton or cotton blends, but you can find some linens too; and then there's the trending chrome collection, made of 100% stainless steel.

The end of July is already here, and I'm a bit terrified by how quickly the summer months are whizzing by. But as always, another month means another 30-odd days of delicious design launches and releases to relish. As always, I've kept an eye on the latest happenings in the interior design world, and when it comes to fresh creativity, new products, and collaborations, July really hit its stride.

Thinking back on May and June's ICYMI, it felt like we were still settling into the new season. There were a lot of exciting things to inspire design heading into sunnier days, but we hadn't quite gotten into the thick of things. Whereas July, well, let's just say a lot is going on — in a very good way. From vintage furniture collaborations and unexpected partnerships to colorful rug collections and dazzling new product launches from our favorite home decor brands, it feels like each one is somehow better than the last.

The sunshine has been bountiful in London over the last few weeks, so if you are somewhere with similar summer-loving weather, I totally understand if you haven't been as tuned in this month. Don't worry though; I have kept tabs and continued to curate my list of the best homeware releases hitting the scene. Below are 10 of July's best.

1. Liberty x Vinterior

First up, I was particularly excited when the announcement was made of iconic fabric brand Liberty and vintage furniture site Vinterior partnering up for an exclusive range of products. It's a limited, five-piece collection of one-of-a-kind furniture items. Think carefully selected vintage finds reimagined with Liberty interior fabric designs.

Vinterior founder and CEO, Sandrine Zhang Ferron, says, "We've always been drawn to Liberty's uncompromising commitment to craft. Their designs have outlasted trends for over 150 years. 2. Ruggable x Jungalow

Ruggable has just launched a new collection with Jungalow, the colorful lifestyle brand by LA-based designer Justina Blakeney, and it's one to take note of if you love color and pattern. The collection spans living room, dining room, kitchen, and doormat designs across two design stories, 'Painted Terrain' and 'Woven Modernism'. It's a collaboration of artful, maximalist style blended with Ruggable's clever washable rug designs.

Inspired by Justina's own boho-inspired 'indoor jungle', Ruggable says this collection explores the "intersection of art and environment, where landscapes are interpreted through color, texture, and form, and where traditional craft meets contemporary living." Anywhere you style these floor coverings, a more exciting space is sure to follow.

3. H&M Home's 'Letters From Paris' Edit

I always love to give H&M's new homeware collections a browse because you can always count on stylish buys at an affordable price. And not to mention, they know how to put together a fabulous assortment of pieces with a chic aesthetic. This month, the brand is taking inspiration from the city of light — H&M Home's Letters from Paris collection elevates everyday dining.

From chrome decor that can be styled across the table to bistro-inspired dinnerware and cutlery, this assortment of tableware and kitchenware takes you back to the espresso shops tucked into the cobblestone streets of Paris.

4. NUDE Glass x Giorgio Bargiani Double Pour Mixing Glass

Built around the rituals of modern hosting, Second Helping creates pieces designed to bring warmth, personality, and playfulness to everyday life at home.

The first collection launches with three hand-painted ceramic butter dishes in a pink, yellow, and blue colorway. It's a limited selection, but curated and thoughtful — especially if you are a fan of Damson Madder's homeware line or playful decor. Plus, a good butter dish or butter bell is a detail that will always make your kitchen feel more thoughtful.

6. Colours of Arley x Lucy Williams' 'Take a Seat' Collaboration

Lucy Williams is an interior stylist and the internet's cool girl when it comes to design inspiration. So, when I saw she was teaming up with UK-based Colours of Arley, I knew it was going to be a collaboration worth noting.

The first chapter of the duo's TAKE A SEAT collection centers on a series of vintage chairs, sourced from London's antique markets and specialist dealers, then meticulously restored by hand. Retaining their original frames, each chair has been reupholstered in Colours of Arley's signature recycled chenille. It pairs heritage craftsmanship with bold, contemporary stripes, and it's a range of seats and cushions that will look good in any room.

For this launch specifically, Lucy created a series of bespoke striped patterns inspired by her travels — stripe widths shift in scale, and the colors are selected from Colours of Arley's palette of 120 shades. Think pattern trends and color trends wrapped up in timeless form.

7. Sofology x Calia Italia

In need of a new sofa to refresh your living room space? Well, good news: Sofology is partnering with renowned Italian furniture brand Calia Italia for a new range of seating that pairs the hottest sofa trends with timeless design.

The Sofology x Calia Italia collection features five pieces that showcase authentic Italian craftsmanship, in a range of elevated furniture at an attainable price point. Of course, you can source a big-ticket sectional if you have a large living room to fill, but there is also a wide range of stylish accent chairs. A particular favorite of mine is the braided Giuggiola style, which can also come with hidden storage.

8. Frette's Design Reform

My first introduction to the luxury Italian bedding brand Frette was when experts from the brand told me you should skip a fitted sheet when investing in quality bedding. That certainly caught my attention, plus the fact that it is one of the most expensive sheets on the market, which many celebrities and five-star hotels swear by.

And now, the brand is launching its new Fall/Winter 2026 collection, Design Reform. The collection centers around the brand's luxurious quality, but with geometric prints that elevate the pieces, duvets, sheets, and pillows alike.

Plus, Design Reform extends Frette's home decor range with designer Tara Bernerd with more Lux Avant Garde cushions that combine rich materials and distinctive patterns to create spaces that feel both contemporary and inviting. Your new favorite throw blanket awaits.

9. Late Afternoon's The Redonda Lighting Collection

Late Afternoon always has fun pieces when you want to add a little whimsical decor to your home that also feels elevated and stylish. The brand's debut range of glazed ceramic wall sconces, The Redonda Lighting Collection, is their first venture into lighting.

Building on its reputation for color, craftsmanship, and thoughtfully designed pieces, the collection comprises two sculptural wall light designs available in burgundy, butter yellow, and white. The brand shares that they were inspired by Madrid's colorful architectural landscape, and each is handmade in Florence. How global!

Good lighting should be as decorative as it is functional, and these high-gloss sconces are the perfect way to dress up a plain wall while adding a bit of ambient lighting to a room.

Well, it was a full and flourishing month of homeware releases this July. While I love shopping the new-in homewares section, there is something special about following your favorite designers, artisans, and interior brands to keep up with what they are cooking up.

Nothing's better than a good refresh that transforms an old piece into something with personality. I've seen Bemz sofa covers around for a few years now — chic slips that fit over stock IKEA pieces and make them look custom. And they've been on my wish list ever since. It's the kind of design that makes you want to buy the IKEA sofa just so that you can dress it in a Bemz sofa cover (and warning: they are considerably more expensive than IKEA).

To make a good thing even better, Bemz recently released its new Past Forward collection, an even more elevated range of sofa covers featuring dramatic draping, soft seasonal colors, and prints that blend trendy style with timeless design. If I wasn't obsessed before, I most definitely am now. The entire range feels like a blend of Bronte-inspired interiors and silhouettes you'd find in your most fashionable friend's home. But the showstopper of the collection is without a doubt the 'Atelier Fit' cover. It's a relatively simple style, but punctuated by elegantly draped arms that pool onto the floor — it's romantic, it's chic, and it's definitely a conversation piece.

Priced at around £700, these sofa covers require intention. However, what you're paying for is the look of a custom sofa for a fraction of the price (even considering the price of the IKEA sofa, too). It also makes your sofa endlessly interesting — and in that way, I can argue that it quickly pays for itself.

Interior design trends are pushing our homes to embrace characterful pieces. Incorporating designs that blend boldness and lived-in personality is the ultimate sign of a well-decorated space. And I'd argue that this sofa cover range embraces this ethos tenfold. An abstract cow-print? A touch of dramatic drapery? Butter yellows and soft blues? Polka dots? The hardest part of shopping this collection is deciding which cover to land on.

That, and knowing which IKEA products fit under the range. The most common IKEA pieces that are Bemz cover-friendly are the EKTORP armchairs and sofas, the Söderhamn series, the Stockholm 2025 sofa, and the Ekenäset armchair. We all know how important it is to meet our daily water intake requirements, but that doesn't mean it's always easy. I, for one, am ashamed to admit how frequently I'll reach the end of the day and realize I've barely had more than a cup of water since breakfast. But it's not just the amount of water that is important; we also have to consider the quality of water we're drinking. It can get to be a lot to think about, so finding a product that makes it all easier for you can be a real game changer. And this is exactly why I was so keen to test out the British Berkefeld Gravity System.

A 2024 study led by Imperial College London found that, across the UK, our tap water contains traces of PFAS, also known as 'forever chemicals'. While the levels remain within UK and EU safety limits, we are yet to understand the potential long-term effects of consistent exposure to these chemicals, making filtration systems like this all the more appealing for our modern kitchens. Not only do these water filters claim to remove PFAS, but they also reduce other common contaminants like chlorine and microplastics. Plus, it's a far more cost-effective and environmentally friendly choice than bottled water.

But while there are countless water filter options out there, few are stylish enough to satisfy our design-obsessed team, which is why this sleek stainless steel option caught our attention. But, of course, those good looks mean nothing if the product doesn't deliver on quality, too. So, I put it to the test to find out exactly whether this design is worth your money.

How Does It Work?

So, first things first, let's get into exactly how this filtration system actually works.

As the name suggests, this design uses gravity to provide you with fresh, filtered water, using water from your kitchen sink. Formed of two distinct chambers, designed to sit on top of one another, the Ultra Sterasyl® ceramic filter sits neatly within the upper one, filtering the water before it can drip through to the chamber beneath, much like the Endless Rhythm Water Dispenser.

While the drip-down gravity system is clever, the real magic lies in the ceramic filter within. Constructed from a ceramic microfilter with carbon granules, these inserts claim to remove 99.99% of common contaminants, including bacteria, chlorine, lead, PFAS, cryptosporidium, and more, while retaining all the healthy minerals, leaving you with great-tasting, high-quality drinking water.

The idea is that the upper chamber, with the ceramic filter fitted within, is filled with tap water. This water then passes through the filter, removing any impurities, before dripping into the attached lower chamber, eventually leaving you with a full chamber of pure, filtered water, no plumbing or complicated installation necessary.

The Set-Up Process

Eager to give the product as fair a test as possible, I carefully studied the instruction manual before attempting to set it up. At first, the instructions were clear enough, and the entire system took less than three minutes to put together. All you really have to do is screw the filter in place within the upper chamber using the equipment provided. There was no need to use any additional tools, and the screw-in system felt super secure, so it's perfect for those of us who struggle with even the easiest kitchen DIYs.

From there, all that's left to do is to mount the upper chamber onto the lower one and fill it with water. The manual instructs you to fill the water to just below the rim, which is straightforward enough, though I did feel that some additional information regarding the volume of water would have been helpful. Even just a minimum requirement would have been appreciated, as it was unclear whether the system would work as effectively when only partially filled.

Once the chambers are securely stacked on top of one another and the accompanying lid is placed on top, your water system is ready for use. The manual notes that, due to the carbon granules within the ceramic filter, the first batch of water is likely to contain dark particles and should be disposed of without being consumed, and the lower chamber should be thoroughly cleaned before being used again. I didn't encounter any signs of debris or black specs after the first pass-through, so once you've done that, your system will be completely ready to go.

What I Noticed

From there, I was ready to fully explore the product, and I'll tell you now, my feelings were mixed.

While the setup instructions were clear enough, there isn't an outline of how long I should expect the filtration process to take. The manual does state that the maximum flow rate will be achieved once the filter is fully saturated, which could take 2-3 chambers worth of water, but without a suggestion of what maximum flow rate should look like, it's tricky to know.

You'll also have to lift the lid off to check how far along the process is, rather than there being a visual aid to communicate exactly how much water has been passed through, and how much is left to go.

On average, I found that it takes around 45 minutes to one hour for the full liter to pass through. Though it is possible that my filter is yet to reach maximum flow rate, and once it has, this number could go down. The average person is recommended to drink around 3 liters of water a day, which, with this machine, would take quite a while to achieve.

While this system is relatively petite in circumference and is perfectly suitable for small kitchens, once the chambers are stacked on top of one another, it does stand rather tall. Which, while not a problem in itself, does mean it's unlikely to fit in most standard refrigerators, so you'll have to enjoy your freshly filtered water with ice or at room temperature.

However, drinking temperature preferences aside, I was perfectly happy keeping this out on my kitchen worktops, even while hosting. Unlike other bulky filtering devices, this design feels elevated and sleek, looking more like a piece of chrome decor than a kitchen appliance.

Beyond looks, there is another crucial aspect to this design that I've yet to mention: the taste. Now, I should mention, I've never been particularly sensitive to the varying flavor profiles of different waters. I'm not someone who can distinguish between tap and bottled water, and I have never had a real preference between the two, either. So I'm surprised to say that I actually did notice a difference in taste when using this system. Although it's not dramatic, in a side-by-side taste test of regular tap water and water filtered using the British Berkefeld Gravity System, I found that the filtered water had a cleaner, fresher taste and was generally more pleasant to drink.

It's also worth noting that while the larger systems come with a gravity tap, allowing you to fill up your cup with ease, this is seemingly not an option with the 1L model. It's by no means difficult to remove the upper chamber and pour the filtered water directly from the lower one, but I did find myself wishing I had the option to fill up my cup without disassembling the design every time.

It does mean you risk losing some water if you choose to pour some water while the filtration system is still in process. There's also no spout or divet for the water to flow smoothly from, so there's a higher chance of spillage than you'd find with a regular filter jug.

The general cleaning process is impressively simple, though, and perfect for those of us who need a low-maintenance kitchen. The manual instructs that "periodically, you need to clean the housing," guiding you to handwash the chambers with hot, soapy water. The ceramic filter, too, is surprisingly easy to clean, requiring nothing more than a gentle brush under running water.

Is It Worth It?

I do think that, depending on your circumstances, this could be a very worthwhile purchase.

Firstly, and perhaps most notably, if you live in an area with particularly questionable water quality, or you simply don't enjoy the taste of your tap water, this could be a real game-changer.

Another selling point of this product is its portable design. The stainless steel is surprisingly lightweight, and it's super easy to assemble, take apart, and store, which could make it an appealing choice for frequent campers.

A major factor in your decision will be a preference for cold drinks. I know that I'm more likely to consume more water if it is kept at a refreshing, chilled temperature, so the fact that this doesn't fit in my fridge is a notable downside for me. Being able to track how far along the process is would be a helpful addition, too.

At £119, this isn't necessarily a budget option, and there are products that offer similar results at lower price points. Unlike other filters on the market, this one looks remarkably sleek and would be a great fit for a minimalist kitchen. As it only stores 1L of water, this would also be a great choice for single-occupant households.

Gallotti&Radice started 70 years ago as a glass specialist and is now a leading name in contemporary furniture too. And the new Half-Pipe chair, bringing together the brand’s expertise in both fields, was a true standout at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan.

Made from recycled glass powder, it has a gemstone-like quality, catching the light and sparkling ever so subtly. ‘What a hero of a piece!’ says Livingetc's editor Pip Rich. ‘It is quite mesmerising and a reminder of the wonder that great design can inspire in the people who see it.

British design: Split Turned bench by Galvin Brothers

Galvin Brothers has long been utilising the best of British craftsmanship to create sculptural pieces of furniture, and this design is another huge success. It is a meeting of wood top and ‘buttered’ brass pedestal that gives the bench its signature lightness and lift. The result is a sublime piece that is weighty in form yet visually very elegant and graceful. "Just beautiful — a work of art as much as it is good furniture," says Livingetc's global editor in chief Sarah Spiteri.

Newcomer: Tabitha Isobel x Dom Callaghan

Ferro is the debut homeware collection from interior designer Tabitha Isobel, created in collaboration with maker Dom Callaghan and including a side table, wall light and mirror.

Both the richly grained and characterful London Plane timber and brushed, on-trend stainless steel used in the design caught the eye of all our judges. "This smart collection is small but perfectly formed, and I’m excited to see what she’ll do next," says Pip Rich.

Small furniture: Dual pouffe by Six The Residence

Many designers think of animal print as a neutral: this pouffe could just prove them right. The monochrome version of a tiger coat is just the perfect graphic pattern — not too shouty but interesting enough to enliven even the dullest corner.

"As someone who tends to shy away from print, I’m impressed to find one I feel I could easily fold into my home," says Livingetc.com editor Hugh Metcalf.

Table: Lozenge side table by De Rosee Sa

Lacquer (clearly the finish of the moment) shines in the form of De Rosee Sa’s new Lozenge side table. Its cantilevered tabletop means it can slide neatly over the arm of a sofa or chair, whizzed around to be useful wherever and whenever you need it.

"I like that it can be a laptop rest for working one minute and a coffee table for relaxing next to another, as versatile as we need our homes to be," says Sarah Spiteri.

Collection: Rizzo by Trove by Studio Duggan

Inspired by Trove by Studio Duggan’s founder Tiffany Duggan’s love of the iconic designer Willy Rizzo, her Rizzo collection of tables captures his ‘let’s have a cocktail’ chicness perfectly.

Lacquer finishes gleam, hexagonal corners jut rather sexily, and there is a sense of pure 1970s glamour. "The exact table I want to gather my favourite people around for the most fun night in ages," says Livingetc's interiors editor Emma Breislin.

Craft: Avington chair by Bill Amberg Studio x Joss Stoddart

Bringing together two master craftsmen, the Avington chair marks a new collaboration between Bill Amberg Studio and rising British designer Joss Stoddart, and is made in the UK using English oak and oak bark–tanned British leather.

"The best of craft comes from collaboration, and seeing a powerhouse work with a newcomer shows how supportive our industry can be," says Emma Breislin.

Sofa: Curve by Aurelo

A newcomer on the design scene, the judges felt that furniture brand Aurelo deserved praise for the sensual yet welcomingly chubby roundedness of the Curve sofa.

Defined by flowing lines and soft geometry, it’s modular and able to go as large as you would like — what we have here is a family sofa that doubles as cocktail seating too. "This is the perfect shape to lie back into and onto," says Hugh Metcalf.

A beautifully designed bedroom should do more than look inviting — it should actively help you rest. As our understanding of sleep continues to evolve, so too does the way we furnish our most private spaces, with every layer, from bedding to bedside furniture, contributing to an environment that feels calm, comfortable and restorative.

Sadly, a good night's sleep is created through a series of thoughtful decisions rather than one magic solution (we all wish we could just wave a magic wand in this department).

The Amber Cora Stripe collection from Secret Linen Store manages to bring together what the brand does best — a smart array of colours in a chic yet playful design. "We’re seeing a move away from standard plain white linen, as people want more characterful homes," says editor Pip Rich, "and this is a perfect example of why."

For years, the bathroom has been more than a functional space. We've seen it become a retreat, a spa, a haven, an extension of the rest of the home. A space in which to recharge, beginning and ending each day feeling restored. And the best bathroom design balances function with personality, combining technical innovation, exceptional craftsmanship and sculptural beauty in equal measure.

This list of winners show just how far the category has evolved. Milazzo is a collection of free-standing and wall-mounted baths and basins that Australian designer Greg Natale dreamed up after being influenced by the minimalist lines of southern Italian street design. They are all super contemporary in their roundedness, getting close to donut-shaped in how pleasingly plump each piece is.

"It’s rare to see a bathtub in a form that hasn’t been done before, but this feels very fresh," says Livingetc.com editor Hugh Metcalf.

Innovation: S - Range smart showers by Aqualisa

So this is quite genius. The S - Range shower series by Aqualisa enables every member of the household to save their own routine, set by temperature, flow and duration, which can then be activated via app, voice control, remote or controller.

"Being able to have pre-sets programmed in for each member of the family reimagines what it means to just be able to wash and go," says global editor in chief Sarah Spiteri.

Hardware: The Hudson collection by Pembrooke & Ives x Drummonds

Developed by Drummonds in collaboration with the brand Pembrooke & Ives, The Hudson collection takes its name from the Hudson River, referencing the city of New York where both British brands operate.

Cross-head handles are smart and crisp, while lever options offer a pared-back alternative. "Not only does each piece look good, it’s also satisfying to hold and use," says editor Pip Rich.

Accessories: Signature Turkish cotton towels by Christy

When is a towel not just a towel? When it’s also a part of British heritage, made by the brand that invented the concept of towels in 1850.

Step forward Christy’s Signature range, which gets better over time — loops deepen, softness increases, and the lovely weight and absorbency compound. ‘My set was so soft on arrival, and feels even better after multiple washes,’ says Pip Rich.

Furniture: Marbella deck-mounted marble lavatory sink by Waterworks

It was the rich veining of the Marbella deck-mounted marble lavatory sink that first caught our judges’ eyes, that and its strikingly art deco, blocky form.

Available in eight stone finishes, the Marbella sink is nothing but a showstopper. "Just so beautiful and lavish and luxe. Exactly what we want to see in bathrooms right now," says interiors editor Emma Breislin.

It's where we cook, gather, entertain, work and unwind, meaning every design decision has to balance practicality with personality. The very best kitchens are easy to use, withstand all sorts of wear and tear and look beautiful while doing it, too.

Best in class: Espresso and cold brew coffee machine by Smeg

We’ve long loved Smeg’s espresso machines — both cute to look at and easy to use – but the new Espresso and Cold Brew Coffee Machine has the ability to make cold brew coffee in less than five minutes, which is a neat adaptation that plays perfectly into our longer summers.

"This machine was reviewed very favorably on Livingetc.com for a reason — most importantly because it makes excellent coffee," says interiors editor Emma Breislin.

Solution: Mini water filter tap and glass cleaner by ABI Interiors

Ever since Gwyneth Paltrow unveiled the home bar in her LA home (designed by Brigette Romanek), the concept has been elevated. Marble slabs, built-in fridges, swizzle sticks that match the decor… and now a swish filter tap and glass cleaner by ABI Interiors.

"Is this essential? Of course not," says Emma. "But it’s perfect for the convivial, elegant way we all want to live."

Furniture: Borough kitchen by Neptune

It’s such a joy to be able to work with free-standing kitchen furniture, which is exactly what Neptune’s Borough collection is. Including an island, pan drawer, undercounter refrigerator and larder among other things, it’s ideal for flexible living, for renters and for anyone looking to upgrade without doing an entire renovation.

"I love how it means anyone can have a pantry without the need for a joiner," says global editor-in-chief Sarah Spiteri.

Innovation: Novy Undercover invisible induction hob by Novy

The future is here, and it looks… well, you can’t really see it. We’ve been talking about the idea of invisible hobs for a while, but up until now some have been inaccessible, tricky to install and prohibitively expensive. Novy’s subtle and chic Undercover hob changes all that.

"Totally seamless, and so very stylish — this takes integrated tech to the next level," says digital editor Hugh Metcalf.

Design: The Mix kitchen by Pluck

When tile brand Bert & May turned its east London showroom into a multi-brand home decorator’s dream destination called The Mix last year, a standout was this kitchen by Pluck.

Aubergine-hued cabinets sit next to warm London plane wood fronts, topped off by a dark Cullifords stone counter. "This kitchen draws you in — it’s the perfect palette of unexpected but welcoming hues," says editor Pip Rich.

Detailing: Little Venice kitchen by Blakes London

Blakes London is always a brand we turn to for beautiful kitchens, and it’s the detail of the stainless steel units in its Little Venice project that stands out. Yes, chrome kitchens have been a rising trend for a while, but rarely have they seemed as warm as this one. "It’s the cute little round handles that give this hard finish the feel of an antique dresser," says Pip. "It’s a surprising and clever interpretation."

Outdoor living has grown up. As the weather gets hotter and the summers get longer, any outdoor areas we have become increasingly important. It's why they are no longer treated as a seasonal afterthought, and why terraces, balconies and gardens are being designed with the same care and personality as our interiors. Best in Class: Lipari fabric by Rubelli

Think of striped outdoor furniture and the mind invariably goes to the broad lines on a classic British deckchair. But Italian fabric house Rubelli has reinterpreted the look with a slimmer line for its smart and gorgeous Lipari collection.

It’s a pleasingly slubby fabric that has a soft tactility, belying the fact it’s water-repellent (and can withstand splashes from a chlorinated pool, too). "It would be just wonderful on an indoor sofa, and that’s the benchmark for an outdoor fabric these days," says editor Pip Rich.

Lighting: Stefan lantern by Pooky x The Novogratz

Designers Robert and Cortney Novogratz feel like part of Livingetc’s DNA — we’ve featured their projects since the early days of our launch. We love their way of blending art and design, and this design’s zesty colors and sharp little hats are sure to give any outdoor space a bit of edge.

"I’m enjoying how this takes the traditional lantern silhouette and updates it for a modern garden," says interiors editor Emma Breislin.

The Stefan Rechargeable Lantern by Novogratz at Pooky is available in multiple colorways, including Denim, Moss, Blush, and Antique Brass.

Furniture: Bovik armchair by Grythyttan Stålmöbler

Don’t be fooled by the wood and metal frame of the new Bovik chair from 131-year-old Swedish brand Grythyttan Stålmöbler. It may look rigid, but the seat has just the right amount of bounce — that little give that is almost like sitting in a rocking chair, but is so much smarter and more contemporary.

"This chair is so comfortable, I could happily sit in it all afternoon," says global editor in chief Sarah Spiteri.

Lifestyle: Dome (Gen 2) pizza oven by Gozney

We’ve recognised the Gozney offering before in previous awards, but the Dome (Gen 2) takes everything we loved and makes it even better. This design has more room to cook (with capacity for up to three pizzas at once), digital controls and hybrid fuel capability.

"It’s the perfect thing to have going when your friends come over — so easy to use and so impressive," says digital editor Hugh Metcalf.

Best in Class: Neo wall light by Original BTC x Buchanan Studio

It’s always exciting when two Livingetc favourites come together to collaborate, and heritage British lighting brand Original BTC made a very dynamic choice of partner in Angus and Charlotte Buchanan of Buchanan Studio for the Neo Wall Light.

Known for their innovative creative vision, they pushed Original BTC’s glassblowing skills into places neither had been before, creating an ice cream swirl of a pattern
in these delicately organic lights. "The wall light is my personal highlight, and the way that its whirls glow when it’s switched on. Super flattering to rooms and people alike," says editor Pip Rich.

Collection: Sablier by Bert Frank

Crafted from solid brass and frosted glass, Bert Frank’s Sablier collection includes pendants and double-ended wall lamps. Each shade is long and tunnels the light from the bulb into a beguiling form, a quietly elegant piece that doesn’t make a statement so much as gently enhance its surroundings.

"I can see this being used in so many different spaces, as a subtle hero of the scheme it’s placed in," says global editor in chief Sarah Spiteri.

Wise buy: All over glass table lamp by M&S

With its charmingly mottled surface and warm amber colour, this clever little Glass Table Lamp emits a light as pretty and soft as the lamp itself. Proof that good design is alive and well on the British high street, it’s the sort of easy-style addition that instantly brightens the dullest of corners.

"I can see this lamp in a very Tom Ford-ian, mid-century living room, on a mid-century walnut wood cabinet," says interiors editor Emma Breislin.

Bathroom: Tempo Siren wall light by Curiousa

The inspiration behind the Pastello Tempo Siren range’s palette was the playful and optimistic colours of 1950s and 60s melamine tea sets, pretty picnic scenes and coloured bathroom suites. The mix of ceramic, glass and an ice cream-like approach to hues is a wonderfully energising combination.

"These are so fun that they help elevate the bathroom well beyond being just a purely functional space," says digital editor Hugh Metcalf.

Great decorating is rarely about one big idea. Instead, it's the careful layering of colour, pattern, texture and finish that gives a home its personality, creating spaces that feel entirely individual. The products in this category run the scale of very eye-catching (hello, metallic tiger print) to quietly calm (that paint palette!). But each one impressed our judges with how transformative it can be.

In fact, the Style Awards judging panel felt that this year's winners reflected a growing confidence in decoration, a trend we've seen coming through in the homes that are now submitted to us. Wallcoverings are becoming more expressive, fabrics are richer in texture, paint is being used more creatively across every surface, and even the smallest details, from trimmings to specialist finishes, are being celebrated as opportunities to add individuality. Throughout this list, there are suggestions here for aesthetic overhauls you can make: big, small and everything in between.

Best in Class: Ambiguous Tiger by Harris Reed for Fromental

Following a stellar collaboration with lighting brand Porta Romana, fashion designer Harris Reed’s fabulous new collection for Fromental is just as much of a knockout. Encompassing five new designs across wallcoverings, plus cushions and throws, the whole collection is noteworthy, but Ambiguous Tiger is the standout for its metallic and maximalist sense of glee.

‘This is so sophisticated – the use of colour gives a whole new life to the classic tiger stripe,’ says Livingetc's global editor in chief Sarah Spiteri.

Trimming: Romaunt collection by Martin Brudnizki for Samuel & Sons

When Martin Brudnizki teamed up with Samuel & Sons for the Romaunt collection, he wanted to create trimmings he could use in his own schemes – think Soho Beach House Miami and the Vesper Bar at the Dorchester.

No surprise, then, that the result is so sumptuous, beautiful and fun. ‘Samuel & Sons is the brand we turn to for perfect finishing touches – and this collab might be its best collection yet,’ says editor Pip Rich.

Fabric collection: 2026 collection by Yarn Collective

Last year saw Yarn Collective release a collab of acid bright and sky blue designs with Sister by Studio Ashby; this year, the shift is much more towards textures, deeper tones and warmth.

Each new design in Yarn Collective's 2026 collection has an interesting weave, a tactile pile and an ability to subtly alter as the light changes. ‘You could easily do a whole house with just these fabrics,’ says interiors editor Emma Breislin.

Fabric Design: Cord by Pandora Taylor

Inspired by passementerie, Pandora Taylor’s woven fabric offers a way to add a playful flourish. She has used it on a headboard and as curtains, and it could also work well as cushions, trim or to cover a sofa. It’s characterful and comes in three colourways, though can also be used on the reverse for a bolder look.

‘I like the personality and energy of Pandora Taylor's Cord,’ says Emma. ‘I can see it in both minimalist and eclectic schemes.’

Paint Collection: Shoreline by Fired Earth

Small and perfectly formed, the tight edit of 12 paint colours that go into Fired Earth’s Shoreline collection all have a truly wonderfully calming softness to them. Inspired by shades found around the beach, the palette is easy to play around with and even easier to live with.

‘Putting any of these colours together in any combination makes a home feel like a real haven,’ says digital editor Hugh Metcalf.

Wallcovering: Anju collection by Larsen

Shown for the first time in Paris in January, the Anju collection by Larsen is inspired by ikats, Tuareg rugs and traditional weaving methods. Made with natural materials including abaca, water hyacinth, hemp and banana leaves, the result is a mix of earthy browns and soft greys, gentle tonal shifts and a lot of subtle texture.

Newcomer: Jessie de Salis

Despite being based in Somerset, textile designer Jessie de Salis found herself inspired by the beautiful sun-drenched regions of northern Italy for her new Como collection.

There are wavy pinks borrowed from frescoed facades, warm burnt oranges echoing peeling stucco walls and classic beachside stripes in chalky blues and creams. ‘The collection is a showcase for how talented Jessie very clearly is: destined to be the next big thing,’ says Sarah Spiteri.

The Belgian design scene has long been known for its love of slubby linen and bouclé, so when we heard about this collab that’s close to what we were expecting. But not so – instead, we have a range of 1970s-style fabulousness in rich tones.

‘The Zinc Textile x Dieter Vander Velpen is one of the most glamorous collections I’ve seen in years,’ says Hugh.

Paint finish: Flat Eggshell by Farrow & Ball

With the same delicious matt finish as Dead Flat, Farrow & Ball’s launch from last year, the Flat Eggshell, works easily and beautifully on interior wood and metal. Scrubbable and stain- and scuff-resistant, it is perfect for kitchen cabinets, skirting boards and even floors. With a 20% sheen, it’s the flattest interior eggshell the brand offers.

‘The fact this gorgeous chalky finish can be used on floors without scuffing is genius,’ says Pip Rich.

Finishing touch: Kate moulding by Kate Guinness x Camilla Hampton

Inspired by the crenellated edge of a bedside table that Kate Guinness designed, this moulding — in collaboration with Camilla Hampton — is really so versatile. In a choice of covetable colours, use it to add flair to the edge of a shelf, run around a door frame, or demarcate a niche.

"It takes imagination to create something that can be used in this many ways," says executive editor Pip Rich.

Flooring: Classic Futures® collection by Ted Todd

There are real subtleties in the new real wood floors by Ted Todd, Classic Futures. Harlington mixes rich brown tones with gentle greys, balancing richness and warmth; Chatsworth features golden yellow hues teamed with warm tan-browns for a classic wood floor feel; and Appleby has trend-driven terracotta against a red-brown brick undertone.

"They all make statements but not loudly, so you can live with them for a long time," says interiors editor Emma Breislin.

And it couldn't be simpler to use — all you need to do is remove the back cushions, and you have a single bed ready to go whenever you need it. And even better yet? This design looks just as great from the back as well (which is surprisingly hard to come by — and this is coming from someone who looks at a lot of sofa beds every day).

One of this year's biggest Scandinavian design trends is about how, in Scandi homes, the sofa is moving away from the wall. IKEA's PS 2026 sofa bed is embracing this shift, with its refined wood frame that elevates the back of the sofa, making it a design feature in its own right, not simply a piece of furniture that needs to be shoved along the back edge of a room out of necessity.

And this is just as relevant in small living rooms as in larger spaces — it all comes down to finding ways to open up spaces to make them feel more inviting, fluid and warm. And the comfortable, quilted design of this sofa bed, made for lounging, does exactly that.

If you care about your appliances looking good on your countertop, you've likely already heard of San Francisco-based coffee brand Fellow, known for its high-tech coffee machines wrapped in super-sleek designs. And while the drip coffee maker was my first introduction to the brand, it has more recently released another exciting product: the Fellow Series 1 Espresso Machine (currently in stock at Harrods). Naturally, I had to try it out for myself.

As a short introduction, the Fellow Series 1 Espresso Machine is the brand's first fully realized espresso maker. It's a semi-automatic machine with the same high-tech functions as its other products. It has over 10 different drink types to choose from, an automatic milk-steaming wand, drink-customization technology, and the ability to connect via a smartphone app — oh, and it's incredibly, incredibly good-looking.

If I'm honest, what really caught my eye was how stylish this machine is compared to similar espresso machines on the market. For almosyt £1,500, though, it needs to do more than just that. But is it really worth the investment? I tried and tested the Fellow Series 1 Espresso Machine, and below are my honest thoughts and feelings afterwards.

First Impressions

My first impression of this machine was that it was heavy. The box it came in wasn't unusually large, but it definitely was a doozy to pick up and transfer. Already, I thought this wasn't the best machine for small apartment kitchen countertops.

However, as I began to unbox the machine, I was quickly distracted by its very good looks. It's wide, but sits at a lower height than most espresso machines (whereas something like the Smeg cold brew machine is quite tall). And the contrast of the sleek, matte black body and shiny, chrome details (like the oversized group head and extended milk steaming wand) really elevates the look. It captures that luxury, home cafe aesthetic. Plus, the non-slip pad on the top of the machine is a nice touch for storing mugs.

There wasn't any true setup with this machine either. All it needed was to be plugged in and turned on, and then the machine guides you through the first steps, which involve a water hardness test, filling the water tank, and learning the different buttons — nothing unmanageable. I'd say the average person doesn't really need the instruction manual to get started.

One thing to flag up front: there is no built-in burr grinder, so you'll need to sort your own coffee grounds, but we will get to that shortly.

Testing the Machine

So, testing the machine — the fun part. Again, this machine was surprisingly user-friendly for how high-tech it advertises itself as. I should've guessed after how easy the Aiden Precision Coffee Maker by Fellow was to use. Still, there are a few noticeable disadvantages.

Namely, the lack of a built-in grinder. I have to admit, for the over £1,000 price tag, not having a grinder in the machine is a bit of a let-down. That said, the Fellow Ode Brew Coffee Grinder is said to be one of the best coffee grinders on the market, so you’re in good hands, should you decide to buy separately.

Once you get your grinds sorted, using the machine is a smooth and stylish experience. The wooden handle on both the portafilter and tamp creates a nice tactile moment when pouring a shot. And there is just the right amount of hands-on effort, which also caters to a luxury experience. Measure and tamp your grinds, insert the portafilter into the group head, select a drink type, and watch your espresso shot brew.

There are over 10 different types of drinks you can choose from. If a milk-based drink is your preference, fill the jug according to the suggested measurements (when you select your drink, the machine indicates which milk measurements are needed) and place it under the steaming wand before pressing the start button. The machine takes care of the rest, or you can hold the jug yourself to practice your milk-frothing techniques. Streamlined, high-tech, and elevated.

Quality of Coffee

But how does the coffee taste, you ask? It’s an important question — what's a luxe-looking machine if the coffee tastes average? I'll start by saying that the Fellow Series 1 machine does deliver a tasty cup of coffee. But my experience wasn't all sunshine and roses; it took a few tries to get to a satisfactory shot.

At the beginning, achieving a thick crema layer was a challenge. Part of that is likely due to simply testing a new machine. However, I'd say it's wise to invest in coffee machine accessories like a scale to make sure you are getting the exact measurements — this will make your shots more precise, help your coffee machine work better, and make your coffee taste better.

The automated milk frother is also a bit tricky to get used to at first. Not because it doesn't work well (it is a very high-quality steaming wand that yields great results), but more so because of its automated nature. There is less room to customize and practice the amount of foam, silkiness, etc. that you want in your drink.

Other than that, the coffee tastes delicious. It's definitely a step up from a coffee pod machine, but it takes more effort and practice to get there than some other semi-automatic machines I've tried.

Should You Buy the Fellow Series 1 Espresso Machine?

So, I've shared all of my thoughts and feelings while reviewing, but is the Fellow Series 1 Espresso Machine the right appliance for your coffee corner?

If you have the budget and design matters to you (and I'm assuming it does if you are reading this Livingetc review), then I'd say it's absolutely a solid investment. This is an appliance that looks incredible on the counter, whether you have a modern or traditional kitchen.

While aspects like the lack of a built-in grinder are a downside, it does give you the chance to explore a wider range of coffee products and how they can advance your coffee-making experience. Something like the Philips Series 5500 is fully automated and has everything you need, but there is less room for customization and learning the art of coffee-making.

Plus, the Fellow Series 1 is very easy to use, making it fabulous for people who want a streamlined morning routine. And once you decide what your favorite beverages are, you can customize the machine to recognize your preferences — futuristic.

All in all, it's a great machine for a luxury, high-quality coffee-making experience.

Truth be told, the microwave has never exactly felt like the most exciting of kitchen appliances. Perhaps it did back in the 80s, but for at least the last two decades, it's been more commonly thought of as a symbol of convenience than of ingenuity. It's fair to say the microwave has been overdue a makeover, and it's time may finally have come.

If there's one country that has led the way with innovative, problem-solving tech, it's Japan. So it only makes sense that this was where the latest kitchen appliance trend takes its inspiration. Launched in June, the Panasonic Japanese Countertop Microwave (available on Amazon in the US) claims to offer supreme convenience and advanced cooking technology in a sleek, Japanese-inspired design.

Explaining the idea behind the design, Ryan Arai from Panasonic says, “Panasonic believes appliances should enhance the flow of the kitchen, not interrupt it,” and, with this new launch, “we set out to combine traditional Japanese design principles with our proven cooking technology. The result is a microwave that brings together simplicity, intelligence and performance in a way that feels distinctly modern." The only downside, for now, is that it's only available in the US. However, we've scoured the web for the best alternatives, so those of us in the UK can experience that same microwaveable magic.

The Panasonic design is centered around Japanese minimalism, bringing in a relaxed simplicity to what is often the most chaotic room in the home. But if one appliance isn't enough to provide that zen look, then our edit of Japanese kitchen decor is sure to do the trick.

I'm slightly in awe of people who buy large furniture online without seeing it in person first. My years working in the interiors industry have taught me that a sofa isn't just about how it looks, or whether it fits your space (although those things obviously matter); it's also about comfort. What's it like to sit on? What does the fabric feel like to touch? These are questions you really need answered before committing.

Soho Home has a reputation for curating statement pieces, and Soho Home's sofas are no exception. The designs tend to be inspired by its different 'houses,' all of which are unique, but the look is generally contemporary mixed with timeless design. It's the Soho Home 'Membership Club' aesthetic.

There are some fabulous large-scale sofas — the kind you might imagine in an architect-designed dream home — alongside more practically sized designs, and a few suited to compact spaces, too. That sense of individual character is heightened by the fact that different designs come from different makers. Most are crafted here in the UK, though some are made abroad.

I'll hold my hand up: some of the most comfortable and best sofas I've ever lounged on have been at various Soho House establishments — long, socially fuelled days and evenings sprawled across the furniture at Dean Street Townhouse, Shoreditch House, or Soho Farmhouse.

It's a great business model. People see them in the Soho Houses, then buy a similar version from Soho Home. The slight issue is that Soho Home only really has two stores where you can see these sofas in person, and they're both in central London — Sloane Square and Westbourne Grove. So when Livingetc asked me to review the range, I saw the chance to finally log all that lounging as research, and headed straight into the store for a proper game of musical chairs.

I've aimed to cover a genuine cross-section of sizes, shapes, styles, and materials, and called each one as I found it — comfort is personal, after all. These ratings are entirely my own — call it hands-on, seat-of-the-pants research. The good news? There are some real standouts. So which are the best Soho Home sofas? The ones worthy of the investment? Here's what I think.

Edison Corner Modular Sofa

Wrapped in Chocolate Velvet upholstery, the Edison Modular sofa I spotted on the store floor immediately stood out. Not just because of its huge scale, but also for its alluringly cool mid-century, rounded design aesthetic. I even like it in brown; it feels aptly early 1970s and the color suits the shape, right?

That said, it wasn't until I sat down on it that I realized just how much I liked this Soho Home sofa. Those round, bolster-shaped seat cushions that form the front, seat, and back supports are very comfortable. Admittedly, the Edison sofa has a slightly lower seating position that some people might find a bit of a struggle to get in and out of, but it's a real vibe once you're on it.

There are different variations available (the joy of modular), including a four-seater and L-shape. You can essentially create your own layout by purchasing the different individual sections. And while it's only available in the Velvet, there are 11 shades to choose from in this sofa material. Also, this velvet has a 40,000 rub count (confirmed by the Martindale rub count test) and a non-directional pile, which means you can rub or brush it either way without it changing tone.

I particularly enjoy the tufting on the seats and the backrest, and the extremely comfortable feather-filled cushions. The combination makes this a particularly dreamy option, and one which you could definitely sleep on for sure.

Ashford Sofa

Refined is probably the best word to describe Soho Home's Ashford sofa. It carries some serious 'classic' appeal with its elegant square shape, low-level slimline arms, and triple-foot detail. Of the various sofas I tried, I think it's probably got the widest style appeal. Whether sitting against a more traditional or contemporary architectural backdrop, the Ashford would look good anywhere. It's also a very reasonable scale, so it would probably fit, too!

Billed as a three-seater, and with a beech and engineered hardwood frame, I'd say it's really a comfortable two-seater. I tried to imagine how roomy it would feel with three people sitting on it, and, even though I'm pretty slim, I decided it might just lose its appealing 'sit back and sprawl' appeal.

The sofa I sat on in the store was upholstered in Linen Bisque. It looks divine in this fabric, don't get me wrong, but even though Soho Home suggests the linen has a 'durable 20,000 rub count' and that it's 'ideal for busier homes', I couldn't help but question it.

If that's you, instead of a beautiful but vulnerable pale shade, it might be wise to look at the slightly darker shades of the house Linen, house Velvet fabric, or the charming 'Ikat Stripe' fabric options. If you're imagining this in even a reasonably high-traffic living space — or more if it's for a family home or one with pets — then you might thank yourself later. Thankfully, there are lots of alternative options to choose from.

Additionally, the Ashford seat cushion depth is wonderful, but not as soft as you might expect. If you throw yourself down on it (like I did), anticipate the landing to be a little firmer than those plump cushions might lead you to believe.

Belmont Sofa

There's a reason why I found the Belmont sofa sitting pretty in Soho Home's grand foyer — it's a show-stopping design. In fact, it's more akin to a piece of crafted sculpture. It feels substantial, much like true investment furniture should.

Made with a combination of foam, feather, down, and fiber, and with a beautiful oak frame, the Belmont is available in either Linen or Velvet upholstery and in the brand's spectrum of colors. The design details of the Belmont add little moments of discovery, from the linen panels which are inset into the back of the frame to the tufted backrest cushions and the ribbed solid oak arms. These are the elements that give this particular design its unique sense of crafted character. It's also simply just a wonderful shape.

I sat on the linen-upholstered style on show in the Sloane Square store, and it rated on the firmer side. Whilst the velvet upholstery option might offer a 40,000 rub count and suggests it could withstand a 'busier home', I'm not sure it's necessarily a child or pet-friendly sofa.

Also, the wooden frame looks lovely but it does make it a little bit vulnerable to knocks and chips (the one I tried in-store already had a couple of nicks on the frame), so it's maybe best considered as a beautiful option fit for a slightly more formal or 'best' living room scene — and ideally one where you can position it so people can appreciate the detail on the back of it.

Theodore Sofa

What a pleasant surprise. The Theodore sofa is a petite two-seater and a great option for anyone who might be tight for space. At first glance, I judged the little Theodore wrong. The elegant wooden frame looks lovely — resplendent as it is in tapered birchwood with brass-effect finishing details — but it does not give me any comfort cues. However, once I sat down, I realized that it's actually very comfortable. The secret might be in those feather-wrapped cushion pads alone — they're beautifully pillowy!

The Theodore takes its style inspiration from the seating designs found at 40 Greek Street, and whilst I'm not normally a fan of a spindly wooden frame on seats (and I doubt you'd be lying down on this one), I think it's worthy of serious consideration.

This Soho Home sofa would be a great option for anyone looking for a practical or occasional petite pew. Also, there are single armchair, footstool, and daybed versions in the Theodore range, too, so you can mix and match a few pieces if that’s your preference.

Vivienne Modular Sofa

If you don't necessarily have the space for one of the larger lounge-y Soho Home sofas, then the Vivienne is a practical-sized option to consider instead. It offers the same modularity and similar comfort, but at a slightly more practical scale.

Inspired by the 8th floor of the brand's White City House location, the Vivienne sofa features rounded corners, cylindrical legs, and an eye-catching pleat-stitched wraparound back. Significantly, it’s got that 'low lounge' seating position so it feels very comfortable to sit down on, and, as a result, I imagine it rates highly on the 'napping' scale, too.

Available in Bouclé, Linen, or Velvet fabrics, there's also a series of different furniture pieces available in the Vivienne Collection — including an armchair, ottoman, and bench — so, much like the Theodore, you can even pair a couple of pieces together for a coherent living room look.

Are Soho Home Sofas Good Quality?

The short answer is yes, they are. Considering everything (comfort, quality, price, warranty), I would suggest Soho Home sofas offer acceptable value for money. The different upholstery materials on offer have varying rub counts, so make sure you study these details and consider this when specifying your preferred upholstery fabric.

Will Soho Home Remove My Old Sofa?

No, it will not. However, they do work closely with the British Heart Foundation, and as a result, Soho Home has details of the collection service that the British Heart Foundation offers. Pay attention to the details, though, which include the requirements that your old sofa be in good condition, clean, and that there be no missing parts. They advise that individually upholstered items must come with a fire label, and that each item in a sofa set should have its own fire label.

I think this list offers a fair and diverse cross-section of the current Soho Home sofas; whether you're looking for a nifty little two-seater (Theodore) or something sized up and altogether more sprawling (Edison Modular Corner), there should be something to suit most requirements and style tastes.

The in-store experience is also lovely. Whilst I was there, I was approached by two different members of the team to ask if I needed any help. It didn't feel pushy in any way. In fact, the second time I was approached, the lady asked if I'd like to sit down so she could explain more about each of the different sofa styles. If my experience is anything to go by, then this admired brand demonstrates good customer service.

Since moving to my small London flat, I've seriously levelled up when it comes to finding ways to stash, squeeze, and cram things into what little storage space I have. And though it may feel like an added step, storage boxes, cases, and bags really do make a difference — because what good is it stuffing everything into the cupboard if you then can't actually access it?

I've stepped out of my shower too many times to towels that have completely lost their fluff, making my evening wind-down routine less spa-like and more like summer camp or a travel hostel. No shade, but don't we all want our bathrooms to reflect a bit of considered wellness? It was time to invest in a new set of bath towels. I was looking for something soft, absorbent, quick-drying, and, of course, easy on the eye. And as I searched high and low for the best bath towels on the market, The White Company's Hydrocotton Bath Towels kept resurfacing.

"Incredibly soft, these are the best towels I have ever bought," one review said. "It's pure luxury. I will be buying more," another noted. As I scrolled, nearly all of the 300+ reviews continued with the same level of adoration. After reading the relentless praise, how could I not immediately add to cart? I was impressed but also intrigued. My London flat is... quite damp, so as much as I value luxury, I also value function. Quick drying abilities are a must, but not at the expense of fluff. So, all that was left to do was try these towels for myself.

Investing in high-quality fabrics is the easiest way to make your towels last longer, so after a few weeks of using these linens and evaluating post-wash, here are my honest thoughts and feelings.

How I Tested

First and foremost, the best bath towels need both form and function. Sure, we love a design-forward moment here at Livingetc, but the biggest bath towel mistake to make is choosing something solely based on aesthetics. When trying to elevate your routine, function really matters here.

So, for this review, I kept in mind a few different characteristics. For my specific space, fighting dampness was especially important, hence why I chose the Hydrocotton range. On top of that, I kept track of how the towels looked and felt upon initial review, as well as after use and washing over about a month.

Initial Impression and Design

Full disclosure: I needed a totally new bath set, so I went big. I ordered two bath towels, two bath sheets, two hand towels, and a face cloth in the classic Hydrocotton design in white. Basically, I wanted the simplest, but crisp and elevated design I could get.

And initial impressions knocked it out of the park. The towels come neatly folded with the brand's signature ribbon and paper (a nice touch when you've just invested in a new set of linens), and wow, were they soft. Let's call it how it is: these towels were incredibly plush, expensive-looking, and transformative.

Absorbancy

The main test is how well a towel absorbs water and dries your skin. The worst feeling is stepping out of the bath, grabbing your new towel, only to find it gliding across your skin. It's painful really, and thankfully that couldn't be further from the case with these towels from The White Company — these were soft and perfectly absorbent on the first go.

In fact, they were so soft that they might even rival Cozy Earth's Bath Towels (although I might have to try those for myself, too, at some point). And the hand towels and face towels were just the same.

One thing I would note is that I was more keen to wash the face towels as I wanted them to be a little more worn in before using them on my sensitive skin.

Post Wash

After a week, I decided to throw these towels for a spin in the wash and see how they held up — that's the ultimate test after all. Once again, my flat in London is a harsh judge for these kinds of reviews. It's damp, and we don't have an in-unit dryer (like many London homes), so it's air-dry only. If the towels can stay soft through these conditions, then they are likely worth investing in.

And I'm happy to report not only that they washed and dried well, but they even managed to feel cozier. The slightly slick, new-towel feeling broke down, and what was left was an even softer material. And they don't lose their thickness, which is really important. Nothing's worse than watching your once-plush towel wear down to the size and feeling of a napkin.

However, I can't attest to their longevity, as the towels are still semi-new to me, but so far, so good. And if the online reviews are any judge, then the future looks bright.

Should You Buy The White Company's

So, are The White Company Hydrocotton Towels worth the hype? Yes. I'd say they most definitely are. They exceeded expectations on softness, absorbency, and overall coziness. So between my enthusiasm for my freshly stocked linen closet and the glowing reviews online, I'd say you are in safe hands with these White Company towels.

You might be spending a little more than you thought on towels, but it's an investment worth making if you value a nice nighttime routine.
