The judges had a lot of fun picking the winners for this year's tech category, redefining their definitions of style to include pieces that help maintain a home's beauty. From the barely-there TV to the vacuum that does everything, every elegant home needs these pieces.
Best in class: The Frame Pro TV by Samsung
Whenever we talk to designers about tech, the Frame and the Frame Pro TVs get a mention. It’s the answer to the problem every aesthete has grappled with – how do you add a television without it looking like a big black box? In Art Mode, it transforms into a digital canvas, displaying your favourite pieces or photos in stunning detail. ‘It is perfect for stopping decor being jarred by unsightly tech,’ says Livingetc's digital editor Hugh Metcalf.

Best in audio: R810 high fidelity radiogram by Ruark
On-trend chrome legs and a mid-century-style walnut casing made the R810 stand out in the sea of latest tech offerings. It’s essentially a speaker, but one that does everything, from Spotify to your vinyl collection and all the many ways you listen to music in between. ‘The sound quality – and how easy it is to flip between music inputs – is just incredible,’ says Livingetc's deputy editor Ellen Finch.

Best appliance: X Series 11 washing machine by Haier
What impressed was the Ultra Fresh Air function – it blows air into the drum, so washing inside will stay fresh even if it sits, having been washed, for up to 12 hours. ‘Remembering to take laundry out when it’s finished is the bane of my life and I love having the leeway here,’ says Livingetc's group editor in chief Sarah Spiteri.

Best security: Blink Mini 2 security camera by Blink
Small in size but mighty in field of vision, this captures so much more of what it is pointed at than you might expect. It is also one of the most affordable security cameras at under £30. ‘This offers so much peace of mind for the money, I can’t quite believe it,’ says Livingetc's digital editor Hugh Metcalf.

Isn’t tech great when it makes life easier? Step – or perhaps roll – forward a design that can mop and vacuum. ‘Not having to think about mopping or vacuuming? Yes please!’ says Livingetc's deputy editor Ellen Finch.

Dyson’s latest floorcare technology is designed to pick up wet and dry debris in one go to deliver a hygienic clean on hard floors using a combination of hydration, absorption and extraction. ‘Of course I’m excited about a floor cleaner – I’ve got two big dogs!’ says Livingetc's executive editor Pip Rich.
