Curated Finds for Jane — Rugs
Dear Jane,
Inspired by your brief, I’ve curated a personalised edit of one-of-a-kind rugs for your den, keeping your mid-century modern, bohemian and Mediterranean style in mind. As I don’t have an image of your space, I’ve included a mix of different colours, patterns and textures, from more colourful statement pieces to softer, more timeless designs.
I’ve also focused on rugs that feel distinctive and full of character — pieces that can really help give a den that collected, personal feel. I’ve kept your £1,000–£2,000 budget in mind where possible throughout and selected options within this range.
If you'd like a little more support pulling everything together, take a look at Style, our room design service at Design Lab By Livingetc. We'd have a 45-minute one-to-one call to discuss your space, and afterwards I'd put together a full moodboard for your space, along with tailored product recommendations and a clear design direction.
I hope you find the selection useful and, most importantly, that you discover a rug that feels like the right fit for your home. I’d love to know which ones stand out to you.
Best wishes,
Iokasti
I had to include this one for its playful personality. The colourful plaid feels bold and unexpected, while the hand-tufted wool and sculptural texture give it a really tactile quality. I think it could be such a fun way to bring the bohemian side of your style into the den without it feeling too traditional.
If you’re looking for something with a little more history and character, this is such a special piece. It’s handwoven from wool and silk, with an intricate traditional pattern that would sit beautifully alongside mid-century furniture. I particularly like the idea of using a rug like this to create a more intimate reading or seating area within the den.
The rich, earthy palette of this rug feels like such a natural fit for a Mediterranean-inspired space. I love the traditional floral pattern, but the combination of warm tones gives it a more relaxed, collected feel. It would be lovely layered with mid-century pieces and natural wood. Note: this one is currently £2,195, so it sits £195 above your budget.
This would be my pick if you want to bring a little more personality and colour into the room. The dreamy blue palette and artistic feel make it feel almost like a piece of artwork for the floor. I’d pair it with warm wood, relaxed linen and a few vintage-inspired pieces to keep the look feeling collected rather than too polished.
A softer option, but still full of character. The pale blue and gentle green tones are inspired by British gardens, giving the rug a calm, slightly whimsical feel. I think this would work especially well if you want the den to feel relaxed and inviting, while the handwoven New Zealand wool adds plenty of texture underfoot.
