Read on for an exclusive insider blog from Philippa Prinsloo, designer of Habitat's Fell View candle...
Habitat's Autumn/Winter '07 collection focuses on the individual designers and the story behind the products they create. Here Philippa Prinsloo, designer of the Fell View candle (pictured), tells her story:
“I've recently moved into Habitat's textiles design team, but before this I designed decorative items, so I feel like Fell View is my swan song for Habitat's decoration range.
The inspiration for these candlesticks comes from a visit to the Lake District. On the one hand, I wanted to recreate something with the same impressive feel of height as the trees and mountains of Grizedale Forrest. On the other hand I felt so relaxed by the comfort of sitting by a real fire in the evening that I wanted to give people the chance to create something akin to a natural log fire in their homes. Thus, the giant Fell View candlestick was born, named after my friend's “Fell View Cottage” in which we stayed.
It really impresses me to see that when grouped together Fell View create a fantastical candle-lit forest, especially when in reality the design is intentionally simple – if oversized.
We often look around man made structures, tower blocks and such like, and stand in awe of their height. I'm hoping that Fell View can remind people that this height also exists in organic natural forms.”
