Perhaps it was fate, but textile designer Chrissie Probert Jones had had an eye on this characterful family home for some time before she actually bought it. So, when it came on the market, she couldn't resist taking a look around. 'As a family space, it was perfect even though it wasn't the most stylish interior. But I had a gut feeling we could be very happy here,' she recalls.
After moving into their new home, Chrissie, husband Nick, twins Alfie and Bertie, 16, and 14-year-old Dulcie watched while it was deconstructed around them before being put back together. 'With hindsight, I wouldn't choose to do that again,' says Chrissie. 'It's quite stressful living in a building site!'
After studying History of Dress at London's Courtauld Institute of Art, Chrissie went on to write her own books on knitting and fashion before working as a beauty editor for Vogue, and later with celebrity hairdresser Charles Worthington, helping to create hair products. Finally, she took the plunge and started her own textile company,
Stitch Designworks, two years ago.
Now, Chrissie works from her home office an ordered treasure trove of fabric and yarn where she focuses her attentions on her hip, retro home accessories range. This bright collection complements Chrissie's personal trademark dramatic hits of colourful wallpaper, curtains, headboards and cushions that you'll find throughout her house.
