Here are some pics of our house so far, we (husband, two daughters 10mnths & 3 yrs and myself) been here a year and I'm gradually getting there although I'd say its still very much a work in progress...
First our bedroom. We sanded & varnished floor, painted walls, ceiling and woodwork white, wallpapered one feature wall and added cornicing.
I don't think a single thing in here is brand new, the wardrobe was from a junk shop covered in dog scratches so I sanded and painted it, the chest was given to me by a friend and I painted it and put new handles on. The little chandelier was from Ebay for about £20, its by Bombay Duck. The bed was second hand too bought from some friends...hope you like it!

Oh it is lovely Lindsay, very tranquil and restful. I love the wallpaper. Isn't it amazing the difference putting in cornice makes. We did similar in our bedroom and it just makes the room look so much better.
Would love to see more (oooh, we are such a cheeky bunch pestering you to see more pics of your house!! )
I love Glasgow, it is a fantastic city! Both my parents are Glaswegians, but they moved to Canada in the early 70's before I was born. They say it is almost unrecognisable from the place they left.

thanks amyoliver...yes Glasgow is a pretty great place to live these days...
Here are some of our dining room, again done on a miniscule budget. In here we had to get one wall treated and replastered for damp then we painted the room white including woodwork and the fireplace and put the new pendant light in. You can also see our back hallway which leads to the kitchen from a cut-out open section in the side of the room...

Congratulations! This is fabulous! I really like your style, love the floors, splashes of colour and feminine touches. You must be thrilled with the results of your work! The painted furniture in your bedroom looks awesome , please tell me how to do it? Sanded down and what kind of paint do you use? I have an ikea leksvik drawer, it is not hard wood but do you think it would look nice painted? Thanks for sharing!

thanks, thanks, thanks! Its so daunting posting pics on here! Mias, the pink cushion is called Tesica from John Lewis. Malgorzata, I sanded the wardrobe and drawers then coated with a wood primer then painted with an eggshell paint. I have never painted Ikea furniture before but I don't see why you couldn't as long as you used a primer? Maybe someone else knows more about this and can advise you?

It's lovely Lindsay - hard not to be girly when you've got daughters I say!! Love the wood with the white walls. I think I have the same throw you have on your bed...

Thanks for the reply! I'm going to give it a go this weekend Can I ask what brand/colour of paint did you use, and did you paint with a paintbrush or a roller?

Looks lovely, Lindsay, really elegant and restful. Am so impressed with all your hard work, sanding and painting, especially great big pieces like that wardrobe!
You'll have to post those pics of your daughter's bedroom again in case people haven't seen them on the See What I Made thread...

You are welcome Malgorzata, it was done on a total budget - no fancy paints just a basic wood undercoat from one of the standard brands e.g. Dulux, then an eggshell topcoat from again a standard brand, nothing fancy I promise! Needed a couple of coats of each before it looked any good, don't be put off by how rubbish it will look after the first coat or two, takes a few before it is decent! Used a paintbrush...Good luck!

thanks MissMap! Here are some of our teeny bathroom, it is soo hard to photograph well as its so small and I don't think the pics do it justice but here goes...
In here we had to rip old panelling off the wall in order to build a false wall to hide the shower plumbing (there was no shower in here before), and in order to tile the whole room 1/2 height and 3/4 height behind shower. This should have been fairly simple but as with old houses things are never simple and half the walls came down too! Anyway, we got there in the end. We painted the whole room and woodwork, tiled the floor with black and white tiles, put new toilet, radiator, sink and towel rack in as well as the shower and circular shower rail, and I painted the old bath to give it a new lease of life...

Very nice - really like the white metro tiles in particular and the black lace panel at the window is fab!

thanks lucienne!
Here are a couple of our living room, it is still a work in progress in terms of furniture etc but here is a sneaky pic of what I've done so far...
We painted the whole room, woodwork and fireplace, filled in the alcove, papered one wall and hung the chandelier. The chandelier is the reason we need to save up now for the rest of the furniture in here LOL, its been my one indulgence in this budget make-over house but it was love at first sight!

Our daughter's shared bedroom next. In this room was the aforementioned shower cubile you can spot in the before pictures. This had caused the damp on three levels of the house that we had to tackle when we moved in.
We had to rip the shower cubicle out, then the whole wall in that area plus the bathroom next door, attic above and dining room below had to be treated for damp which basically entailed all the plaster etc being pulled off and new plasterboard put up and replastered. The floorboards were also rotten in this area because of the shower so had to be replaced with new ones. We then repainted the whole room including woodwork and the fireplace and also the floor was sanded and painted.

Wow Lindsay, that is all so lovely. I completely heart the wallpaper in your living room, where is it from? You've totally transformed the place and shouldn't have any worries about posting here. I so love your daughters bedroom. In fact, you've inspired me to get my [****] into gear as I've got a huge mahogany chest of drawers sitting in the garage (bought on Evilbay) that I sanded and primed last October and haven't got any further with. Am going to bite the bullet, buy the paint and get cracking on it this weekend. My decorator's advice was to use a synthetic brush as the brush strokes are finer.

Love all the additional pictures you have posted, everything is gorgeous. I particularly like what you did in your bathroom, the metro tiles with the grey grout are lovely and the lace panel is perfect in that window.

It all looks lovely. I really like your style and your daughters bedroom is beautiful. One question - why did you paint over the tiles in your fireplaces? The surrounds yes, but the tiles in the before shots are lovely and I think they would've looked great left in their original colours.
