Animal-friendly taxidermy!
      #87477 - 06/02/2010 14:52

Somehow I love these old natural museum showcases with pretty butterflies - still I am not too keen on the real thing unless they are vintage. Ebay was a bit tricky and the ones where I liked the frame and it fitted the spot where they are going to (tropical themes bathroom) were quite a bit over the allocated budget.

So I got myself some pretty Victorian scraps, a few felt tips, glue and a 3-part Ribba frame from Ikea. Hope you like it

Sorry about the quality of the pics - those were taken with my mobile. The camera ran out of batteries...

Thank you - as a professional tree-hugger (= landscape architect) I also partly blame peer-pressure for choosing this option...

Steph: thank you - BUT they were actually of the "shelf" - I had 2 of these loveley sheets and only cut the links away. This and currently sewing my Miss Piggy costume have made me realise I am not really a DIY person. Nevertheless lacking a fairy godmother I occasionally will make (slightly reluctandly) my own stuff.

The penny's finally dropped... doh... I didn't quite get it at first. That's really clever and creative!

That looks beautiful. Are the butterflies mounted on those adhesive foam squares (to give them height, I mean?).

That's such a clever idea, and really eye catching.

Sorry, have been idle for a while...

Eames: yup, for the improved depths the butterflies have 2 layers of felt tips under them and the white passepartout 3 layers.

enginemonkey: thanks. your portraits are goreous. I love your avatar.
