And now I really want your honest opinion!
I browsed the traders pages on the Internet for vintage furniture, and I came across this one:
[image] [/image]
I just love these useful stools. Handy when we have a lot of guests, and functional in daily life to hide the clutter.
This time I fear I went a little bit overboard, my husband's reaction was that it is freaky.
I on the other hand think it is kind of cool??? or is it? This was the leftover fabric from when I did the dining room chairs. This was a very expensive fabric, so I thought it would be a shame not to use it for something.
I would love some honest feedback on this please

Thank you in advance.
Kind regards and a very happy new year to you.

Thank you saranextdoor,
Yes, why be boring???
But when the person I share my life with is questioning my "sanity", I have to ask for "help" by getting outside opinions.
Yes, the top is padded, and I added another sheet of wool padding, so it is quite comfy.
Thanks again, Christina

I think it looks great, and I love the fact that you can hide your clutter in there too, in fact, I feel an eBay search coming on...
Well done!

Christina: men despite being hghly entertaining creatures quite often don't get things their female partner considers stylish and fun. He'll come to terms with it once he realizes that it'll not drink his beer (or other tipple of choice) or needs to be walked 3 times a day, everyday... I have a serious crush on it pink brothers in the hall and started looking around on Ebay. Got two Pallbo stools from Ikea - though they are seriously in need of a new cover. They'll have to wait though as I will get my mum's old LauraAshley armchair eventuually upholstered (something wooley/tweedy/men's suit material in grey)

Hi and thank you for kind comments
Yes, it is an added bonus that they mach the chairs, but on the other hand the chairs gives a less profound impact, see below
[image] [/image]
While the box is more imposing so I can understand the objection
But being the one behind the project I truly appreciate that you like it. However if someone is of an another opinion I would like to hear it, and why, that's how I learn what do do and what avoid in the future
In reality, you are probably too kind to me but keep it coming in what ever shape and form. That is what makes it interesting.
Kind regards Christina

I think the fabric works even better on the stool. The chairs are fine - but the stool is fun!

Hello again Rhineblaze,
you make me laugh, and you are probably right, my husband is French/Italian (a potent mix) and he has very high opinion about his sense of style, hens the comment. And I, on the other hand, believe I have a good eye for detail and effect, and then "the war is on" so to speak
When it comes to their siblings in the hall, i agree completely I love them, they have a shape that really appeal to me too, and the fabric I chose makes the difference so thank you.
Will you be upholstering your L.A. chair yourself? Fabric sounds elegant, I recently upholstered a couple of small chairs in a champagne colored velor from L.A.

So I am familiar with the range, I bet your chair will be stylish, why don't you post it when it is done

Hi Christina,
I am afraid I am just a "give-me-15min-and-I'll-use-the stapler-gun-and-re"upholster"-a-dining-chair-seat"-kind-of-girl. So far I only used rather simple non-directional fabrics (uni and toile-de-jouy). So I'll stay clear of my beloved armchair. I'll probaly make the covers for the stools though - and kind of fancy adding piping. I love the armchairs - they are most elegant. Didn't you say you saw them in Elle Deco? In Jackie O's sisters Parisian apartment? cheers Steph I got a "Cocktailsessel" or nursery chair on ebay - still covered in simple pale rasberry velvet. I wonder if it would like a lime green cover - but alas funds are not allowing hasty decisions...

hi, Yes I did, you get around
I had the same kind of chair as you describe siting in my basement for several years before I had it upholstered.
If you love the shape, buy and do when funds allow, that is my advice. It is probably gone when times change, or you could take a course I did, it will eventually pay for itself
Best with your beloved chair
Best Christina

That is the kind of chair that looks so elegant, maybe you could try to find an identical one on ebay? or in a vintage shop. I could kill for that chair Nice mum

Hi Christina,
this is the chair (but my mother's is covered in blue tartan slightly in shreds at the back corners - the cats "loved" it too).
http://mto.lauraashley.com/upholstery-and-furniture/leather/shape/300301-100349/occasional-chair
as for the rasberry one - you are right - one day it'll be upholstered. Not too sure though about the course though, but hey - you never know...
good night Steph

Good morning Steph,
I love your mothers chair, imagine snuggling up with a blanket a hot cup of tea and a good book or magazine, more than nice!
However, I took the liberty of looking at the sequence of photos in your first link, and you have a very fresh and stylish expression in your flat! Love the sofa too, it works well with the lime walls. Bravo. You have flare!
The raspberry chair I commented on earlier adds a refined touch, so no need to stress the upholstering at this point. And your Christmas tree decorations.....divine!
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks Christina - I will try and make some more pics of my place soon(ish). There is a b/w kitchen with a pink feature wall, a bath (shower only) where I still try to install a tropical kitsch theme and a bedroom that is quite glamorous if I would be a bit tidier... and there are a few book and a dining area in my living room.
Hopefully around next Christmas pictures from next door - and that might be a nerve wrecking endeavour as the neighbour has some rather fascinating ideas about style. Will see how they match... but there might be hope. He likes my place well enough and so far has shown interest in the right kind of sofas, etc.
I will have to introduce smurfs and gig posters to my own palette. And am still not really convinced how to pull of that smurf thing!

Hi Steph.
I see the problem, merging or otherwise including elements somewhat alien to you in your otherwise "perfect" style can be a challenge, but I have faith in that you will pull it off.
But I must complement you for being quite the investigator, I never mentioned that it was from Jackie O's sister Lee Radziwill's Paris apartment, you read Elle Decor ?? Well done! It took me some time to pick up on that, but I thought I never mentioned name
Look forward to the next postings from you, I'll keep a keen eye
Regards Christina
