another question - I am planning on painting my house in white (it is pretty much white and cream at the moment) and just wondered whether it is worth paying the premium for a brand name or would a DIY own brand be OK? thanks

You pays your money and takes your choice - the reason some paint is very cheap is because it doesn't cover as well as trade brands nor is it hard wearing. However I'm sure there are good quality diy brands out there! We always use good quality trade emulsion for ceilings and then Dulux or Crown trade paints for walls unless the customers specs a particular brand.

IMO Dulux Trade Diamond Matt is well worth the money, and is still a lot cheaper than the F&Bs and so on. Better quality paint covers better and so can reduce labour time/cost.
