Bedroom help wanted - for those who like a challenge
      #71159 - 02/07/2009 18:29

I've just been looking through the new LE and have been totally inspired by the picture on bottom/right of page 111.

I've always wanted a walk-in wardrobe but don't have the space but i'm figuring i have just enough room to do something similar to this. (The other bit of furniture in the room is a fitted wardrobe that would face the drawers in the photo).

I've had a look in the Ikea and Habitat catalogues at wardrobes and drawers but nothing sprung out as being ideal - particularly as the back will be on show and all the affordable ones have nasty fibreboard/foil backs.

I want both hanging space and some drawers - but i'd also like to have a bit of a hole the other side to put bedside stuff like stereo, speakers, alarm clock etc in, so i'm thinking perhaps a combination of cupboard and some sort of stacking drawers, inc. one that could be turned the other way. (or drawers/ shelves made of something solid that i could make a decent hole in from the other side).

In total I don't want it to be wider than 150cm, preferably 50cm deep and costing less than £500. Any ideas?

I understand your problem having tried to hack storage for a bedroom using Ikea cabinets. No doubt you have already exhausted all Ikea options, but if you end up involving the Alex 9-drawers unit please post pictures as I think it looks great! Good luck...

I like the Alex but the cupboards aren't high enough. I have a bit of a cardigan habit and i want to be able to hang them, rather than squash them in drawers. The minimum cupboard height needs to be 90cm.

I'm wondering if i couldn't adapt this for the purpose. http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/produc...48030&page= It's not ideal but just about fits the size and price range.

or i could use 2 of these - http://www.habitat.co.uk/fcp/product/browse/Kids-wardrobe/995100 - but it'd be a bit over budget.

Anyone know of a valid 20% Habitat voucher on the go?

Just went to see the Habitat Hana ones - they're really nasty up close. The doors don't fit nicely and the drawers are all jerky.

They did have a new wardrobe (not yet on the website) that I was [****] over. It has beautiful soft-close drawers inside that I got very excited over. And I know they've got 0% credit but it was nearly £1600 and of course it's not in the sale. Dare I?
