I'm redecorating the bedroom in my new flat, and would like some advice about lighting.
The flat is in the basement and does get a surprising amount of daylight, but the room is very deep so the light doesn't penetrate to the back, where the built-in mirrored wardrobe is. There is only one light, halfway along the length of the room. It's currently a set of wall-mounted halogen spots - providing plenty of illumination but blinding if you turn towards it!
So I'd like to replace it with something a bit more ambient, and add more lights by the wardrobes. However there are no plug sockets available to be able to use lamps, and I can't afford an electrician to rewire, either for more sockets or for ceiling/wall light points.
Does anyone know of any battery-powered lights that a) provide a decent amount of illumination and b) aren't ugly? Or have any other suggestions?
Thanks,

You could run a wire across the ceiling from an existing fitting and make a feature of it - like those ceiling lights that keep a bit loop of cable.
You'd need to use some imagination and hunt around for some nice cable. Here's some coloured cable but it's absurdly expensive and i'm sure someone will know of some cheaper stuff that would look good.
