I have been Livingetc reader for a few years, and have to admit that I find it irritating that Finland is considered part of Scandinavia (which it is not). Finland and Iceland are Nordic countries, but not Scandinavian...
There are lot of similarities, but in my opinion Finnish design with its cold and sterile twist differs from the Danish one, for example.
Another thing is that Livingetc seems to repeat certain items too many times. For instance Marimekko's Unikko is something which has been seen zillion times, so time for something new, something more personal...
Have to say that I envy those of you living in the UK, there are so lot of old houses with nice architecture. Post-war architecture in Finland (or in Sweden) is pretty ugly. If everything is minimised, there is no food for soul

I envy you a little in beautiful Helsinki. It may not have quite the variety of the UK or London but Helsinki is one of my favourite cities simply for the way it makes me feel. (Plus it's tiny compared to the giant sprawl of london)
I particularly love the idea of outdoor underfloor heating (they were putting it down in the street by the Kamp hotel last time I was there). You also have people there with a real love of craftsmanship which London is generally a bit lacking unless you're talking mega-budget.
In fact, just reading your post is making me think seriously about going to Helsinki in the winter. I could really do with some of those fab sheepskin slippers you get in the market and maybe a hat knitted by one of the ladies at the bring and buy market in front of the big church. And a christmas edition moomin mug. And...
