Builders, kitchen fitters, London...Help!
      #70238 - 17/06/2009 14:36

I am looking to get quite a lot of interior work done in my small-ish London flat, including replacing kitchen and bathroom, painting, some electrics etc. I'd much rather hire people through a personal recommendation, but almost everyone my friends have used have turned out to be awful... Any suggestions gratefully received

Dickyryan, I just looked at your website (very nice) and at the risk of sounding like a right airhead, is the photo under Insurance work with the massive huge bulge in the ceiling for real??

Sorry to hijack your thread. I do know a builder in SW london, but he doesn't get out of bed for less than a £50k job - is that what you are looking for?

The huge bulge is real (in the ceiling that is!) - that's what happens to artex when it gets wet - it elasticates - you have to burst the bubble and let the water out or it may bring ...and has done to some unfortunates... the whole ceiling down!

OMG that is amazing - imagine walking into your lounge and seeing that, you would think you were hallucinating.

Tee hee at the huge bulge reference!!

So far I never disappointed someone. Have look at my site http://www.lizzydesign.com I actually have an open house this weekend giving the opportunity to see some of my work. I will still have it on tomorrow sunday and monday.
A few case studies are online, you can find them here: http://www.lizzydesign.org/category/case/

If you are going into building work this article I wrote on building work and the intrusion into personal life may be helpful as well: http://www.lizzydesign.org/building-works-and-the-intrusiveness-into-personal-life/

Hope your search goes well.

Kind regards,

I can recommend someone depending on which area you live in.
