Since i've been lurking on this site, and even more so since I won the SWIM last month, i've felt really encouraged to get on with turning my ideas into reality.
I've just set up my first website (only one page so far but I'm working on it) and have designed a bag which I think is great (but obviously I'm biased!).

My new web adress is http://www.loobytoo.com/ - all the details about the bag are there.
If any of you want a bag, I'll sell them at £2 off the price on my site if you contact me via the Living Etc forum.
Any constructive comments would be most welcome.

Why are they called wifebeater bags?
Oh, I've just looked at your site. I didn't know those vests were called "wifebeater vests". I really think its a horrible name - sorry, but I used to work for Women's Aid and it just struck an unpleasant chord.

The bags look fine though! Although do they s-t-r-e-t-c-h a lot with heavy shopping in? And being white they'd get grubby in our house in no time!

Siane, I think the name 'wifebeater' came about because they're always worn by trailer-trash bad guys in American movies. My Canadian friend first introduced me to the name a few years ago and I just thought it was funny name for a vest (NOT that I think wifebeating is funny of course.)
The bags do stretch but in a good way as they're quite thick fabric (cheaper vests are no good). And because they're cotton, if they get grubby you can just stick them in with your white wash (or your reds if you want your bag to go pretty pink!)

honestly lindsay it is quite offensive, I'd call it something else, it certainly wouldn't improve sales to keep that name.....

I am Canadian and I have heard that term, and i also find it offensive. I seriously think you should think about changing the name. Particularly if you are going to be putting them on Etsy, as I suspect people on there will find it offensive as well. Just some friendly advice.

Well i've listened and have temporarily changed the name to 'Jersey vest bag' which is lame but i never aimed to offend anyone. I'm obviously really naive as i never thought anyone would take it so literally. You live and learn.

i think it is more to do with experience, if you had been beaten or knew someone who had, then I am guessing you'd have thought twice before thinking it sounded like a good name....if they were called mutilated rabbit vests I doubt you would have called the bag after them.... anyway i like 'vested interest' bags...good suggestion

Isnt another name for those tee shirts a "guinea" tee or a "singlet" both of which are much less offensive.

I think aside from the name, I like the concept, and I could just imagine them hanging up in a teenage boys bedroom off the back of the door
As well as setting up your website don't forget to do a bit of PR on them, send a press release out to a few magazines - the one's that features funky gifts etc, and maybe the men's magazines like GQ - I'd focus on the laundry basket picture because I think that is the most unusual use for it, and it's hard to find funky looking laundry bags. I haven't checked out your site but do you sell it as a kit with the wooden hanger - because it might be worth it.
It might even be worth contacting the procurement team for Pedler's I could see them liking something like this.
I like the name Vested Interest Bags
It's hard setting up something new, and launching a new business, so goodluck to you, and it's great that you can get feedback on potential names - think of the money you'd normally have to pay marketing consultants to give you the same advice.
Goodluck

I like Vested Interest too. For a craft project at college called "Hide a Secret" I made transvestite underwear which was a basic vest and y-fronts which when turned inside out turned into french knickers and a basque. We were supposed to do the packaging and advertising for it as well but I bottled it. Once of our very slim male friends even went as far as to model them for me -- complete with marabou trimmed mules etc. I am now going to waste the rest of the afternoon trying to find the undies and the incriminating photos!

Hi Lindsay - love the concept and am really pleased you have changed the name - when I logged on I thought the spam was back!!! What about offering in different colours or offering to personalise for gifts? You could do your own designs and get a T-shirt printing shop to print them up for you (or use lasertrans (sp?) and iron on yourself)... I know a couple of people who would buy a 'your dirty pants live in here (not on the floor)' one!
