After much deliberation and delay (both by me) I have finally agreed to allow our plasma tv to be wall mounted. There is just one thing I cant figure out. What do we do with our DVD player, and the Wii (....husbands wii - sigh!)
We are planning on having all the wires inset into the wall, so it looks neater. I really dont want to have a shelf underneath for a DVD player. I have seen loads of wall mounted TVs with no dvd players lying on the floor beneath them - is there something i am missing. Can you get TVs with a built in DVD player, or are there any other solutions.

Yes you can get DVDs built into TVs (they load through the side) Or you can run the HDMI cable to a AV centre - but then you have to work around the "where do I point the remote control"

Would a Magic Eye thingy solve that part of the problem? (Just a thought, I am not completely up to speed on these things)

The DVD player, Sky Boxes and so on can be sited elsewhere but most people site them underneath to keep everything close and the cable runs short. You could site the equipment hidden in a cupboard. Keene.co.uk sell IR extender equipment so that it will relay the infra red signals to the equipment inside. Websites such as avforums.com have DIY and Gallery forums where you can see what others have done.
If chasing the cables in the wall, keep the power cables separate from AV cables and if you can tidy the holes for the cabling with a faceplate like
http://markgrantcables.co.uk/shop/index....products_id=138 which would be hidden by the TV and unit below. It is also a good idea to run several cables e.g. HDMI, RF Coax (TV aerial), Cat6 network (future use), audio cable etc. to futureproof the setup. Basically run one of everything if you can. If the cables are quite loose within the conduit inside the wall, running cables in the future shouldn't be too much of a problem but if they're tight, it will be.

I am having the same problems as we have just 'corner mounted' our 32 inch so the tv does not sit flushed to the wall. We have no idea what to do with cables, V+ box and dvd as the whole point of mounting the tv was to save on floor space. Its hard, very hard...

I wall mounted our 42" flat screen in January, it was a nightmare! We were lucky in that we have an alcove each side of the wall where it is, so I was able to put up shelves for the dvd player and sky box, but I still had to chase 6 cables into the wall and then plaster over them afterwards!

Jimbo, out of interest what type of shelving did you use the dvd and sky box?
Thanks

Thanks everyone for all the info. Im just not sure if it will work without shelves underneath, which i really didnt want to do. Its confusing as in mags I often see neat wall mounted TVs without any cables or techie boxes, perhaps those people dont like watching DVDs or playing super mario kart on the wii!!
Foxybrown, if you are in London I know a really good builder who works in MDF - he isnt expensive which is a bonus. He has put shelving up for us all over the house so he comes with a recommendation. Let me know if you want his details.

Look at what Griffo did in his minimal flat as he mounted the tv on a sheet of mdf that is on battens in front of the wall, then ran the cables between the wall and the mdf, which is painted to match the wall. I'm sure if you ask him he will explain properly, his partner is gadget mad so they have loads of stuff.

alas tiger pug, my living in London days are no more but thanks for the offer of your contact. A lot of thought is needed for AV shelving and I guess I need to keep looking, although this has caught my eye http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...n%3D4%26ps%3D10
