I'm trying to find a white rubber flooring option for my bathroom. As i can't seem to find any options that are bright white I would like to know if anyone has had any success in painting directly on to linoleum sheet. I've found a Farrow & Ball Floor paint i like but the sales assistant insisted we would have to tear the lino up and paint whats underneath concrete / or board. I'm reticent to do this as if it's concrete it will be very cold underfoot in the winter and if it's board most likely will need sanding and joins filling for an even look.
Searching the net I've found a few US DIY blogs that claim it's fine to paint over lino directly - there is no give in the floor ( so should be no cracking) so i'm tempted to give it a whirl. Any thoughts, help or advice shared much appreciated.

In an abbreviated word.....don't!
I would think that the lino will flex and this could lead to the finish becoming crackled. Also if you do paint it then being a horizontal surface all the bits of dust in the room will settle on it - light colour may not show up the bits but a dark colour will show everything! Think how a window sill shows up the hairs and dust......then multiply that by 100!
You need to roughen up the lino first in order for the paint to adhere it - then prime it, then paint it, then protect it!
Personally I'd give it a miss - it may work but if it doesn't you'll be ripping it up.

Don't waste your time trying to paint over the lino!
Have you tried Dalsouple for rubber flooring?
