Operation Restoration
      #68465 - 19/05/2009 22:15

Hi Guys and Girls,

Have been a lover of Lining etc for ages but just logged on so thought I'd share my little project with some like-minded people who may (or may not) be keen to see what I'm doing (as friends and family are starting to lose interest).

Brief synopsis: I'm doing up a small house.

The catch: It's a 17th century listed cottage in the middle of nowhere with more rotten wood than sound wood.

I will endeavour to describe in full with the use of photos but despite being some supposed computer whizz-kid, I don't have the foggiest on how to upload any....

Anyway, hope to get to know you all soon to swap a few tips...

Cheers for now,

Ben

I've been on this project since September. Luckily one of my friends is a builder so has been in control of the tricky bits on it. Started off planning to just touch up and decorate. Has turned into huge mission with planning officers, conservation officers and building regs involved. Has already run 3 months over schedule but now on the home run.

Here we go with some from the early days...

Think that'll do for now.

Thanks - yeah, it's MASSIVE. Luckily just down to painting, fitting skirting, kitchen and final fix electrics and plumbing..... oh, and painting the outside and sealing interior beams.....
Finally got some on image shack so here goes.

Awesome! It worked! Just a couple more - one of the new cooker and one of the new step that leads from what used to be the old bathroom into the old utility shed.

My new baby AGA - colour looks so much better (more subtle) in the metal.

I am loving the staircase and the flooring. Well done for all your vision and determination. My friend has that very aga and it is gorgeous! I am looking forward to seeing how it progresses further. What style of decor/furnishings are you going to go for?

Thanks Eames and Ikklesis. It's really such a small house we've decided to spend a bit more on the fittings. All the windows/doors/repairs to the timber frame/stairs/oak frame extension were made by the same local guys and they're also making the kitchen too. Get this - Moben kitchen:£11k. Bespoke solid oak kitchen with polished concrete work top £8k. Madness. Trying to get everything local/reclaimed/British/smaller companies/friends etc so avoiding B&Q and Homebase.

I think eclectic is probably the best way to describe what it will look like. This is my first place away from my mother's rather rigid period style so we'll have to see how it evolves.........

Time to go check out some other people's posts to steal some ideas. Night all.

Just gorgeous. The staircase! The aga! The flagstones! You can tell that you have put a lot of thought into it, and you must be very proud. Its nice to see such an old house being loved so much. Cant wait to see the final photos.

Thanks tigerpug! It's just across the field from my grandparents house and has been in the family for years so is really special to me. Really couldn't bare to see it getting so run down and as I'm not one to do things by half, really wanted to take the time to get the best materials and fittings. This does now mean I won't be able to afford a bed or curtains but I'll get there in the end.

To be continued........

I love, love, love it. I want to live there, Everything about it is just so fab. Its nice to see someone restoring with such passion, and eye for detail even in a small dwelling. They do say the best things come in small packages!!! Its also nice to see an old house being brought back to life instead of demolished!!!

What a beautiful building. Love those wooden windows. You lucky thing! Good luck with getting it completed.

Please post some more photos up once you've finished.
