Any advice welcome!! I am looking to replace all the floors in my apartment with dark wood. But, I don't want to spend anything over £40m2, as I have 62m2 to cover. But, I don't want to compromise on quality,(as I wear a lot of high heels) and don't want laminate. I have had a few quotes, all of which are too ££. Any tips? Do you think I am being unrealistic? Jx

I would wait for the B&Q sales and get the wood from there (the bonus is the free delivery) - in addition they cut their oak flooring now and again by about 30% The dark stained oak is quite nice and one I was looking at (in the end I went the entire different waya nd painted the existing ones white) However going for not £££ you will not get large lengths of wood but a "selection" of lengths

I have just had a B&Q dark oak floor put down, and to be honest, wish I hadn't even though it looks lovely. The stain is only on the top and the wood underneath is virtually white, so the slightest scratch shows through. I am wondering how it would cope with your high heel habit?? The guy who fitted it also fitted a proper parquet floor for us and I could tell he was unhappy with the B&Q product (we bought it before we found him). My advice would be to find a really good floor specialist and seek their opinion. Good luck.

We had exactly the same problem and ended up importing the most beautiful dark wood floor boards from Germany where they were about a third of the London price. http://www.parador.de/en.html has great choice and quality at very reasonable prices. I also have a stiletto habit plus two cats, none of which has done any harm to the floor. Since the recent GBP weakness has made it slightly more expensive to buy in Europe, it will be worth checking out what Parador costs in the UK these days. Good luck!!

check forindustrial parquet - it is even used in factories.

It looks fantastic and though laminate is cheaper the industrial parquet has great durability and is not as costly as the classic option.
On the other hand I had bamboo flooring in my last flat and that was quite good too. One of the neighbours knackered hers with tap dancing at home but despite wearing heels mine was still fine after 3 years!
