Hi, this is my Victorian home and we have lived here for 3 years. It was previously owned by a little old lady who had lived here her whole life (her father helped build the houses in the street in 1908) so the place was pretty un-touched (lovely fireplaces and cornicing). But this also meant that it was a bit run-down, no central-heating, needed new electrics through-out and damp-proofing. Much of the floor was rotten too and in places whole rooms had ‘sunk’. It was very depressing visiting the house when the floor was ripped up, all the plaster was off the walls, everything was covered in a thick black dust and it was freezing cold. We did think to ourselves ‘What have we done?!’
I have worked hard to make this house a home which is just right for our family - and now we may have to face the sad news that we have to move because of my husbands job. So I thought I’d better share it with you before we leave it all behind!

It makes me smile to see these photos - what a happy looking place you have! I love that your taste in clothing (evidenced by the coat and hat in the hall) is carried through to the gorgeous array of colours you have used in your home. So many beautiful things to look at. Love the eye chart mirror, the coat rack, the kitchen but most of all the beautiful built in white cabinet in your dining room with the pink interior! Just gorgeous. And it's lovely to see your newly upholstered chairs in situ!
How sad that you will be moving soon, but how lovely that you can weave your magic once more somewhere else! Congratulations!

It's stunning! Such a pity to have to leave after you have done all the hard work! But just think there are more places out there that need a bit of TLC!

It's lovely, you've obviously worked very hard. I really like the kitchen, I love blue and white together. The drawers in your bedroom are beautiful, things with lots of drawers appeal to me (might have something to do with my hoarding instinct!!). The hallway made me smile with the mix of colours and the beautiful settle it is a very inviting space.
Hope you find another house that inspires you.

Fantastic. It looks like such a happy home, well done.
I love the coat hook in the hallway, is it something you've made yourself or did you buy it? If so - where from? I'd LOVE one!

What a lovely place! You've made a fantastic job of it - love the use of colour especially. My favourite bits are the coat stand in the hall, the library drawers and scalloped dressing-table mirror on top, the Panton-esque light in the bedroom and the deep green hearth tiles. And you have a bed just like mine - except mine has an extra brass rail at head and foot, below the curved top rail! Were the green hearth tiles original to the fireplace, or did you add them? If you put them in where did you source them and are they actually fireproof? And where did that fab yellow coatstand come from?

Thank you everyone for the nice comments!
Cluelessnorb - the coat hooks are from an australian website for homewares and clothes which are sourced in Africa called 'Shweshwe'(I'll hunt out the website address) - a lot of it is made from recycled materials and the coat hooks are made from telephone wires. I saw the hooks either in Livingetc or Elle Deco I think and just had to have them. Cost a bomb on postage! The words 'Its beautiful here' just said it all about we feel about our little house. xx

Thanks Siane, the yellow coat stand is from Habitat - at the time they did it in red and chrome too. Again I prob saw it in Livingetc and then just had to have it! At the time Habitat hadn't actually started selling it in the shop so I had to wait a few months which was really frustrating - coats everywhere!
Oh yes, the green hearth tiles - they are not original, we ordered them from a fireplace shop in Bristol who deal in victorian style tiles and yes they are fireproof. If you want the name and address just let me know and i'll dig it out. x

Your home is so lovely, what a fantastic job you have done!! I also really love the pink inside of the original cabinet. Your chairs are fab, and the fabric works so well in the rooms. It is all very pretty! Thanks for showing it to us.

what a lovely house, particularly love the living room, feels nice and light and the pink sofa, looks very comfy. Your kitchen is lovely too, just wondering where your white cabinets and plate rack are from?
Every room has a lovely mix of old and new, there are so many more things I could mention (cushions, pictures, chairs....).
Really nice home

Its lovely to read your nice messages!
natonell - the cabinates in the kitchen are lovely solid oak ones by Schreiber 'Kelmscott' from MFI - who are now no more! -I heard you can still get them from whoever bought all the stock from MFI for a fraction of the price. In fact my dad just bought £7000 worth for less than £3000. And the plate rack I would have to 'rack' my brains to remember where it was from but it was a website with a mans name, i will check for you.

I am in love with your house, its beautiful ! And I also love your cat ! My favourites are the wallpaper behind the record player, the upholstered seats and the seat in the hall. I'm sure if you do have to move you will make an equally beautiful home.
