Modest Manchester Edwardian Terrace
      #60884 - 08/03/2009 22:20

Rather nervous about posting these pics of our almost finished home (especially after the amazing recent homes of Eames & Charlied) but after 10 months of pain we are almost there! Please don't pay any attention to the garden... it's next on the list. I don't have any before pics as my laptop recently died so just imagine almost derelict and you won't be far off...

What a lovely space. I'm so jealous. I've a tiny kitchen, no dining room. [cry icon needed] lol.

The kitchen colour is fab. And I love the flooring, and the lights above the dining table. what colour are your walls? We've having difficult choosing a white shade atm.

The Wizard of Oz- dorothy picture, can I ask how much it was and where you got it from? (I think) I've saved the artists website, I love this picture. Not sure if OH will like it though, he seems to be obsessed with giraffes for a picture, for some reason. lol.

Jasper: Do you like Sex and the City?
Brian: Yeah, it's an okay show.
Jasper: I wasn't talking about the show! OOOOOO! I'M NASTY!

Gosh, what on earth are you nervous about? This is lovely!! It all looks very seamless with a great flow. Love the light above your dining table, the Magis puppy and the "Hippies..." sign!!!

I've also been dying to ask someone how comfortable the ghost chairs are in real life? And how substantial!

Well done, Oswald, really fab!

I want a black kitchen!!! Oswald, you have done an amazing job. As Eames says, everything flows so well. Loving your Dorothy picture, Stag head, chairs, sofa, bright space with loads of light coming in, and really love the grey blinds. Well done. You should be very proud.

Well done- beautiful feel you have created. Love the Hippy sign and your dark sofa looks very comfy.
Eames- a friend of mine has the ghost chairs and they are rather comfy- slippy but comfy!

Thank you all for your lovely comments! I am so pleased you all seem to like the open plan look as so many people we know thought we were mad when we decided to take all the walls down! I guess open plan living isn't for everyone but there are only two of us and we love it! It's also great for entertaining.

Jasper - I would love to be able to tell you the colour of the walls is something fabulous but they are actually nothing more than B&Q's paint for new plaster in brilliant white. To be honest I doubt they will be staying this colour for long, It was kind of a quick fix! The Dorothy pic is by Magnus Hastings www.magnushastings.co.uk Ours is a varnished canvas in A0 size and I think off the top of my head it cost £575. When I purchased it he also mentioned the same image as a print so cheaper options are available from him. He was very helpful and arranged a courier from London to Manchester for me etc. I simply got in touch with him via his website after seeing the image in a copy of Living etc last year - hope this helps!

Eames - Thank you for your kind comments, I honestly almost didn't bother posting the pics after seeing your place! lol! Anyway, the Ghost chairs are actually pretty sturdy and comfortable, as are the Lizz chairs, the La Marie's however are a tad flimsy to say the least... I am hoping my next chair purchase will be an Eames rocker... pure filth as far as I'm concerned!

Really lovely, I love the open plan. So interesting that people thought you were mad doing it, as it clearly works so well, I can imagine that it is fab for parties.

Good luck with your garden! If the house is anything to go by, I am sure it will be stunning.

Ooooh I love it. I'm a fellow Chorltonite, looked at the first picture and saw the lovely candle holders from Pad which I've had my eye on for while! We've got oodles to do on ours, only just started really. Great to see hear that the open plan living works. We previously lived in two hugely open plan spaces and living in a conventional house with rooms is killing us!! Bring on the sledgehammer.

Hi Decaf, thanks for your comments. The hippy sign was a find several years ago whilst on holiday in Key West. I think there is contact info on the back so will check later (once i am home from work) and let you know. It was a fantastic little shop, selling ton's of quirky wall plaques and nothing else. I just checked out your website, I love the space invaders wall stickers and the bird feeders are fantastic! I will be ordering as soon as we have sorted the garden!

Hi Cluelessnorb, I can't believe you spotted the candelabra from pad, quite a bit of the stuff we have bought locally, light fittings, artwork and bits & bobs! We are quite lucky here in Chorlton to have some lovely little shops on the doorstep arn't we? Anyway good luck with your renovations - if you want to see how the space works in the flesh let me know, you would be more than welcome to pop round!
