My bathroom - before and after
      #60208 - 03/03/2009 17:54

Hi everyone

I am new to the forum although I have been reading Living Etc for nearly a year now. I took my first issue on honeymoon and in between romantic meals and strolls on the beach I was enjoying planning the refurbishment of our very dated bathroom! When we moved in it was avocado green as far as the eye could see and worse, there was a washing machine in there. Nothing against avocado green in the right setting, but it didn't go with my ideas of a peaceful haven! Ditto the washing machine! It took us a long, long time to transform it, notably I spent a whole day stripping wallpaper as there must have been six layers, pasted on top of each other since the 1970's! We also had to dig up the floor at one point in order to get the cables installed. It was finally finished three days before Christmas and now I totally love it. My favourite part is the sculpture of a mermaid which we found in Glasgow - which is the only green thing allowed in! Hope you like it too.

PS I've never done this before so I really hope the images load properly!!

Why ever did you ditch the avocado suite?
Congrats on a lovely transformation from a fellow avocado bathroom victim!

What a wonderful transformation!
I can't quite work out the chronological order of the pics (my brain is on go-slow today), but I love the tiles in what I think is actually the 'before' shot?! The green 'retro' pattern ones? They're ace!

However, you have done a marvellous job. It all looks very chic! Well done x

Thank you I must admit a lot of my friends were very keen on the retro tiles and I would have definitely sold them on (to someone who didn't hate them like I did, haha), however when we took them off they just crumbled into pieces, no idea how old they were but sadly they didn't make it!

x

I saw those tiles too and thought they were fab - what a shame they couldn't be re-used. You have done a great job with the new bathroom though! What is the green object on the windowsill - I can't work it out from the size of the pics?

Well done , it looks really clean and fresh, we inherited a peach bathroom suite, which is now long gone thankfully, I think the colours were an 8o's thing, best left in the 80's.

Jennymooo, I'm very jealous of your lovely bathroom – as someone who's suffering from a baby blue suite at the moment. That is a shame about those tiles – wonder how old they must have been to just crumble away...
