Low prices? The fakes will be cheap. However, a word of warning - I have seen a few genuine chairs crop up recently, starting around £500 or so, seller with 0 feedback - and very sketchy descriptions. I assume this is a scammer so please beware! If you want a genuine vintage chair PM me.

I wouldn't recommend buying from ebay (and if it's Modern Classics Direct then run a mile). The repro designer market is awash with really lousy sellers all offering 6 month+ delivery times and/or damaged or substandard goods on arrival, and failure to refund.
I can however recommend Design Classics. Have bought from them myself, and because they are part of a larger group supplying furniture for landlords (which is how I found them) - http://www.davidphillips.co.uk/home.php - they have a far more professional approach and hugely faster delivery than most if not all competitors in this area. You can visit the showroom to see the goods, and they refund without quibble.

If you do decide to go the ebay route, it is vital you pay them with a credit card (NOT debit card) as that way you can claim your money back from the card company if they fail to deliver or the goods are damaged and they won't refund.
And read this post first which is just one of many on the subject http://www.livingetc.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/34077/an/0/page/0#34077

Thankyou both for taking the time to reply. I think the wisest thing to do is to wait until i have the bucks and get a good repro. Design classics look good thankyou tara. Also a good tip about using the cc. I really really want one and thought I could stretch for a bargain on ebay but it could be a disaster so I'm going to leave ebay out of the picture and start a little saving box! Thankyou x

My advice would be to save your bucks a wee bit longer and buy an original or a second hand original - it will age so much better and the quality of craftsmanship won't be replicated on a reproduction. Think of it as a long term investment.

My advice would be the same as Barry's.....start saving up. An original is an investment piece, they are expensive but they hold their value very well. A copy will always be just that, the manufacture and materials used are inferior and in my opinion you may as well throw your money down the drain. We have an original ( half was paid for with our wedding vouchers so we were very fortunate!! ) and it really is the most stunning piece of design and very comfortable. I had lusted after one for years and now I can't actually believe we have one, I often just sit and stare at it.....

I agree with the last two posts, a repro is awful. Just a couple of things to watch - check the chair for faults/damage with the shockmounts. A good test is to rock the back of the chair, if there is a large amount of movement one of the shockmounts could be broken (this is a professional repair which can cost £200-300). The second giveaway as the angle of the back rest, they should lean back slightly (vintage chairs often sag a little more) but it shouldn't be a huge angle! Good luck

ohhh much and all as i would love an original i think its way out of my reach for the foreseeable ever ever! so a repro is what i'm saving for now, thanks for the advice, i'm sure a repro won't hold its value or have the same aura about it but if its a good enough one it will do me and i'd be quite happy. i can understand how it would drive some people mad looking at it knowing it was nt the real thing but with 3 young children the real thing unfortunately ain't an option

Hi all
I sell reproduction Eames style Longer chairs.
The originals are unquestionably wonderful - we have one.
However, not all repros are crass and I have sold some on ebay as a new business to get feedback...all very positive for what people are paying.
I appreciate that there is nasty crap and I will never put another supplier down - but i deal in modern classic reproduction furniture - and nothing to do with the negative posts i have read above.
Please have a look at my website www.coco-interiors.co.uk These products are faithful and commendable copies. Our 'about us' will explain more of our ethos. Afterall, if you do like it - we offer an instant refund. Negative thoughts and disappoint serve none of us well! If it is an item not in stock - indeed it will take a whille for delivery - but we reflect this in our price.
Kind regards to all
