Has any one noticed that the names of the people recommending Modern Classics Direct always contain 'enthusiast' and 'lover'? Well they do on other sites too, where they 've been busted as writing their own good reviews. Please check out the net to see just how many bad reviews this company has. One might gather from the reviews that they were actually fraudsters.

No-one has ever recommended Modern Classics Direct on here. Quite the opposite, there are at least three posts containing many complaints about them.
See:
http://www.livingetc.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/22157/an/0/page/2#22157
http://www.livingetc.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/30476/an/0/page/1#30476
http://www.livingetc.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/14584/an/0/page/4#14584
There have been similar posts about thisisfurniture.com yet livingetc continue to accept their advertising and also promote them on the Where To Buy section of this website. I've complained about it but they're basically not interested so long as they get the advertising revenue.

"Has anyone noticed that the names of the people recommending Modern Classics Direct always contain 'enthusiast' and 'lover'?"
----------------------------------
Just in case you are referring to the title that appears below our names (you'll frequently see 'enthusiast'), this is given to us by LivingEtc and is beyond our control. It changes regularly depending on how many posts you have written. As tara has mentioned previously, the more posts you write, the less appealing the title becomes, it seems! Come on LivingEtc, let's have some nicer titles please!

We think most of the negative comments about Modern Classic Direct are competitors notes. We bought a Barcelona chair of ebay from Modern Classic Direct late on a Wednesday evening and it was delivered on a Friday, extremely well packed- in fact I was impressed. After reading so many negative comments we got a bit worried the chair wouldn't be delivered and we were anticipating lots of problems so we contacted them on Thursday and we got a personalised and friendly email reply of the company within the hour of sending ours, reassuring us that the chair would be with us the day after. Do some own research and get in contact with the company before you buy definitely, but also don't be fooled and follow your own judgments. This company is top and we are very happy with their customer service, even the call center .We would certainly recommend them to anyone.
Thank you

But there is the same problem with you, Superwoman. This is your first post so it is unlikely that most forum users will trust your opinion - how do we know that you are not from Modern Classics Direct?

Superwoman, As some of the people who have complained about Modern Classics Direct are regular contributors to the forum and not one-off posters like you, it's highly unlikely they're all competitors in disguise. Maybe you work for MCD, or maybe you were lucky – presumably the stuff they flog on ebay is actually in stock or they'd get chucked off ebay for non-delivery.
But, as you suggested, I did a bit of internet research.
Interesting post here on the designaddict forum. Amazing number of ‘competitors' there, too. Seems MCD trade as a number of different companies, including jmcfurniture.co.uk. And, as someone points out, the only positive comments come from brand new forum members (like you).
web page
web page2
Another interesting post on apartmenttherapy, someone called John Christopher plugs one of the products from modernreproductions.com, and someone else remarks that it’s a strange coincidence that JC is the name of one of the main sales team at modernreproductions.com This is followed by complaints from people who've been ripped off by them.
web page
The registrant of modernclassicsdirect.co.uk is John Christopher, 11 Coleman Fields, London N1. Ditto italianclassicsdirect.co.uk
And modernreproductions.com is registered by JMC Trading Ltd, 11 Coleman Fields, London N1
JMC Ltd & MCD Ltd have the same registered company address in Croydon.
...So, in conclusion, there are many complaints about JMC/MCD/ICD on at least two forums, by established forum members, and the only positive comments on both forums coincidentally always come from new members. In addition, John Christopher, who seems to be associated with these three companies as well as another, MR, has posted on an interiors blog promoting his own product pretending to be an independent consumer.
Oh, and I just found more complaints from jealous competitors...
web page
I would love to hear your response to this, Superwoman, and whether you intend to continue to recommend MCD to your friends or buy from them again yourself, but I somehow suspect we won't be hearing from you again on this forum.

my Order placed end Dec 07 & Delivered France 18th June 2008, I consider myself lucky to have received my Order, a beautiful Custom made White Leather Chair and Footstool, now sitting on it in the South of France ! Bit worrying as paid with Paypal (60 day limit on refund not much good) have to say I would have cancelled if we could, but we stuck it out and they also credited us with a good compensation.. thanks MCD. They clearly have supply chain problems (made in China?) but boy when it arrived I was overjoyed... our advice, dont use Paypal, be prepared to wait. Dont get too emotional, I dont think they are crooks, its our 2nd Order and we received everything all OK. .... like all things in life... buyer beware! remember these are designer copies, the real thing will cost thousands in showrooms in London, Milan or Paris. for what its worth, yes Ive just signed up to give another opinion (i am a customer of theirs) to give a more balanced view..... maybe some of your members might be happier to have a 'regimental' process to go through to prove they are genuine & not MCD.... bit sad eh?

Wow, you actually received your order?! *And* only six months from order to delivery?!!
Impressive!!
FYI, JMC Ltd is also the registrant of the domain, www.trendtechhk.com, who manufacture and supply repro designer products from China. So it would appear that MCD et al are supplied by their own sister company....and *still* have supply chain problems?
I quote from the TTHK website - "From our office in Hong Kong and strategically placed factory in Shunde (PRC) we are able to offer fast lead times (typically 28 days FOB) and excellent customer service levels."

it seems odd that a company would use this forum as a way of excusing their terrible service and calling everyone liars and frauds instead of using it as a real opportunity to open up some kind of general conversation with dissatisfied customers, listening to their complaints, explaining what steps are being taken to improve the situation and deliver customer satisfaction....a chance not taken, to quote a previous poster...a bit sad eh....

hi there. I placed an order for a lamp last february. Up to now no delivery yet, even though they took my money. I have made so many attempts to contact them, but no reply whatsoever. They are a disgrace. I wouldn't advice anyone to purchase anything from them. BE WARE!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TRUST Modernclassicsdirect!!!!! Today i contacted my bank. They told me are going to investigate the matter. Cheers guys!!!!

Hi
Having placed and order and received the goods I appear to be in the minority, however the goods were damaged and all attempts to contact the company by telephone, email & fax have proved ffruitless. I have just spoken with my bank and they advise me if I return the goods with proof of postage they will refund the cost of the item (£99) and then the onus is on MCD to get the monies back from me. The frustrating thing is I was only trying to contct them to get a replacement in good condition, not to cancel.

Genius. Tara, if I was a man I'd marry you and have your well-designed babies.
Interesting that the truth will out. Do you think we'll see superwoman again? Methinks not.

LOL & thank you, mrsevans! and helen & susan
Who knows, we could be wrong about Superwoman & capital (after all, many of the complainers are first-posters too) though capital's "boy, was I overjoyed" comment somehow didn't ring true. Relieved would surely be the normal emotion in the circumstances...? However, I enjoyed the vision of them sitting, *overjoyed*, on a white leather Barcelona chair (and footstool) in the South of France with a laptop commenting on here, when they could have been lunching al fresco at La Voile D'Or.
But, lulz apart, there's certainly way too many complaints flying around for *everyone* to be competitors seething at the runaway success of MCD et al (there's you and ivana for a start). These fictitious competitors would be far better employed dissing http://designclassics.co.uk/home.php, who actually *do* offer a genuinely good service.
John Christopher certainly has some explaining to do.

As I said, I consider myself lucky to get my orders, the second order for the dining arc lamp arrived within 2 or 3 weeks by TNT no problem that was placed in January (big risk after placing first order for the chair & footstool in Dec 07) clients should really keep a close check on their time limits with credit cards and Paypal. I re affirm, I dont think these guys are 'crooks' or deliberately scamming money. When the chair finally arrived in Uk from China, I was contacted by Milly He in HK several times with notification that customs and devann takes 10 days etc then delivery to France 2 to 3 days. I am being honest & open, telling you what has really happened, I am delighted with the furniture and whilst its take a long time, its been worth waiting for rather than paying a huge price for an original or going to a showroom etc. Maybe I am a lucky one, my advise is to be polite to these people rather than make matters worse by making allegations that may not be correct. Buying on the Internet is not as easy as one may think, you can wait a long time to receive your goods and a lot can happen to an organisation within that time ???
Please dont judge me just because I am newly registered, I am simply trying to provide factual information to others about this matter and do not need to be accused of being an employee or competitor, I am actually a satisfied customer who has received 2 orders and would buy again from MCD providing I had the necessary protection in place. Its great stuff for little money......when you get it !!!!

Capital you are obviously one of the lucky ones!!!! I was not rude in any way to these people i was told lies from the start reputable companys would give you the correct information i would hope!!!! and not decieve you into ordering the company i eventually chose was great with customer service delivery which took 10 days and the quality of the goods. When you read through al that has been said about MCD i have to say you are in a minority with your opinion of them.
