Yorkshire Stone Cottage
      #1330 - 29/01/2007 15:58

Hi, one or two people have seen pics of my house on some other parts of this site and suggested I should puts some pics up here, its a three story stone cottage about six miles from Harvey Nicks in Leeds I bought it in a vrey shabby state, half the floor missing, no plaster on half the walls just bare stone, the rest had 30 year old wallpaper hanging off, you could also look up from the kitchen and see the bath!! I had a major blitz on a tight budget to transform it in three months, Hope you like it! [image]http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php? Hi Jon, Your house looks wicked, but it,s hard to see the detail as your pics don't seem to have come out in the usual format, also when clicking on them to enlarge you have some dodgy links attatched to them via Imageshack!!!

Hi Ralphmalph
I first spotted Jon's photos on the Insider Info section of the forum under "Great alternative to white" and the photos are much clearer. I also made the mistake and clicked on the dodgy link under this section to see if there were any extra photos!! I hope none of my colleagues noticed!

Sorry about the problems with the photos - I tried to put them in like I did in "Great alternative to white" but just couldn't seem to make it happen the same way again, I wish it was just possible to upload a photo from my PC in the same way as on Ebay and other sites.

Hi Jon - no problem. I have not attempted to post any pics of my new place but from what other people have said, it sounds complicated and I have been put off trying! The e-bay system works really well so perhaps the nice people at Living etc could look into this and make it easier for everyone?

Thanks for sharing your photos, Jon!

Your cottage looks absolutely beautiful. 'Really neutral and calming. I think it is fantastic!

I love the Chalky Downs colour. I replied in the other forum about it, but we're planning on going for it on our outside rendering!

Well done for doing all that hard work in 3 months. So many of you seem to be able to trasform things very quickly! I'm very envious!!..Mine has just started after a 7 year wait.

Where did you get that giant mirror from?? - I LOVE it!

Take care

The thing I like about it is the lighting, there are some beautiful properties on this forum but they often look cold whereas your home looks really warm and inviting. I think it shows that lighting is key to successful design!

By the way I think the mirror is Habitat's 'Oakwood' isn't it?

I saw that mirror in Habitat a while back... it was big, but the one in the picture looks super-huge! Maybe it's just looks bigger than it actually is!! Either way, I'd love to know where you got it!!

Thanks for the compliments - you're right about the lighting being crucial, I def beleive it can make or break any room, I think the reason some room photos look a bit cold is because they have been photographed with a flash which 'flattens' everything, I always switch flash off when taking pics if possible. Right - the Mirror, I designed it myself and had a cabinet maker make it for me, it's about 7'6" high X 5' wide, the frame is made from solid black american walnut and the glass has bevelled edges, it's VERY heavy and is held in place with a couple of sturdy hooks behind which anchor it to the wall at skirting board level to keep it secure, glad you like it, it visually doubles the size of the room.

Thanks for solving the mirror-mystery, Jon!!

It does indeed look extremely heavy. I can imagine nobody would want that toppling on them whilst cleaning!!

It looks absolutely fantastic. I think we will opt for a wall-mounted oak one, similar, if not the same as the Habitat one. It does make a very big visual difference to the room.

Your home is truly beautiful.. Well done!

Take care

Thanks, what a great surprise to win a prize, I'd been looking for a chair for my guest bedroom or even my own bedroom and this may well be perfect, will have to find out how I go about claiming my prize? I'm guessing Living Etc may have sent an email to my office email which I won't see till next week as I'm on hols this week.
Biba, thanks, the painting was bought at the Glasgow Art Fair a couple of years ago by an artist called David Wheeler from the Woolff Gallery in London, its not typical of his usual style. The next Glasgow Art Fair is 19 - 22 April, although you may be thinking of visiting the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea in a few weeks.
