There are many different Image Hosting services available on the internet; which will allow you to upload an image. You can then link to the image in your forum post.
For specific questions, please visit Image Shacks common questions page: http://reg.imageshack.us/content.php?page=faq
Here is a quick tutorial on how to do this using the website http://imageshack.us/[/url]
Upload your image to Image Shack
1a. Goto the website at http://imageshack.us/ as shown below.

2a. For upload type, click file
3a. Click browse and find your image on your computer. Once you have found it, click OK - The location of your image should now appear in the box.
4a. Tick resize image (if required). This will just ensure that the image is a good file size for use on the internet and will allow people to download it faster.
5a. Select 640x480 (for messageboards) from the drop down menu.
Your screen should look something like this:

6a. Click on the host it! button - You will then be taken to this screen:

- Don't worry if this page is confusing. We don't need to use everything on here.
7a. Select the text that appears in the box alongside "Direct link to image". (This is the very last one. It is highlighted in the image above)
8a. Copy the text in the box. - Now you are ready to post your image into your forum post.
Adding the image to the post
Assuming you are already logged into the forum, and you are creating your post.
1b. Write your post
2b. From the Instant markup box beneath the post box, click on image
3b. The following box will appear:

4b. Delete the http:// information already in the box.
5b. Paste the text copied in step 8a above into this box and click OK
The box will disappear and should look something like this:

6b. Check that your address is correct by comparing it to the address in 8a.
7b. Add more content to your post if necessary. When complete, click continue

I've no idea why they recommend such a complicated image host.
http://photobucket.com/ is much much easier.
Upload photo, copy and paste IMG Code below thumbnail into your post.
That's it.
If the photo comes out to big when you preview your post, go back to photobucket, click on thumbnail and there is a resize pulldown menu. Resize and re-copy and paste IMG code.

I use Imageshack and I find it really easy. I don't use the "Direct link to image" though, I use the "Hotlink for forums (1)" which is 3 up from that one.

Despite looking complicated it's really easy, but (for me anyway) takes FOREVER. Several hours to upload a few pics, so quite possibly I'm doing it wrong...
