Why Henry Massonnet's Tam Tam stool has celebrity pulling power...
Pop quiz time – what's the link between sultry actress Brigitte Bardot and Ali G creator Sacha Baron Cohen? Surprisingly, the answer is the Tam Tam stool.
Designed by plastics manufacturer Henry Massonnet in 1964, the lightweight seat was earmarked as a fisherman's stool, but sales rocketed when Brigitte Bardot was snapped perched on one.
However, when the Seventies oil crisis hit, production of the affordable favourite became less cost effective and the stool became a bit of a rarity.
It wasn't until retro-furniture fan Sacha Baron Cohen contacted Massonnet in search of originals that production re-started (courtesy of Branex Design), making the colourful hit widely available again.
