One of the instant icons of contemporary UK design, the Jubilee needlepoint wall hanging, designed in 2002 by Vogue's fashion director Lucinda Chambers, is now almost as recognisable in fashion-conscious circles as the Union Jack itself.
'I wanted to design something that included as many of my favourite things as possible,' says Lucinda. 'I'm a magpie at heart.'
As a result, each complex (and entirely handmade) pompom-adorned piece, which contrasts the strong symbolism of the flag with flowers, butterflies and a sacred heart-style motif, takes three months to complete. Hand-finished in London, it highlights the appeal of inspirational, home-grown design and adds a little pomp to any room.
