Livingetc's managing editor Sara Norrman dishes the dirt on bathroom renovation...

Sara Norrman
I'm now in my fourth week without a bathroom, and it's beginning to get to me. I can't even grumble and moan about it too much, as it is my handy husband who is doing every single aspect of the renovation, electrics, plumbing, tiling, the lot, apart from having a full-time job and looking after the kids.

But if it's getting to me, it must be worse for my colleagues. Not that I stink the place out (guys? Do I?), but I remain in a morning mood until lunchtime, when I can pop downstairs to the gym for an invigorating shower. As far as I'm concerned, my working day starts at 1.30pm.

Without washing facilities, my two daughters are slowly turning into savages, with tangles in their hair and dirty feet. If the weather's good, I use the watering can in the garden on them, but how to tackle the results of sports day in pouring rain? My 4-year-old has also discovered a love of tattoos, colourfully executed with felt-tips all over her body – you try getting that off in a small downstairs sink.

It'll be worth it though, as our magnolia suite is replaced by a sparkling white shower bath, lovely Art Deco-esque taps and Bisazza splashback (such a small area I might as well go for top-end stuff). I can't wait, and neither, I'm sure, can my work mates.
