Property fix

Timing is everything in the property market and I'm beginning to realise that my timing is distinctly off. Inspired by the - frankly ridiculous - prices of property in my area last year, I put my flat on the market earlier this year and waited for the offers to roll in.

Four months on and those canny buyers are all looking and admiring but no one is biting. All my attempts to woe have so far fallen on hard ground: the wafts of real coffee emanating from the kitchen; the immaculately plumped cushions on the sofas, and the perfectly tended window boxes have not seduced anyone into making an offer. And though I say it myself, the flat's not a bad little joint, in fact it's rather chic, thanks to the influence of Livingetc over the last few years.

So, I'm having a re-think. Rather than relocate, I'm going to redecorate and suddenly it all feels quite exciting. I've already spent several lunch hours with my nose buried in paint charts and can't look at a fabric swatch without wondering what the material would look like as curtains in my sitting room.

So watch this space, unless some lovely buyer snaps up my place in the next few weeks the decorating will begin! I'll keep you posted.
